Toronto-Age |OT3| Going Off the Rails on a Gravy Train

This isn't my favourite photo but it serves as a good construction update. You can see cranes working on 4 very tall skyscrapers in this picture.
(there are 173 buildings under construction in Toronto right now. It's a good time to work in construction)

EtobiCOKE jokes to dramatically spike
Some of the wise-ass-isms I've read so far:

"I knew it!"
"He hasn't gone full Marion Barry yet, he needs to be re-elected first."
"Bitch set me up, eh?"
"How do you smoke crack and stay fat?"
"Toronto Sun adopts pro-crack editorial policy."
"Wow, Toronto made the American news!"

Um, yeah. Ford is fucked. There's detailed description of the video now. Someone's gonna pony up.

We join in the fine DC tradition.

Hard to believe?

No, I don't think so. The more that has come out on this over the past 12 hours, the easier it is becoming to believe.

We have a certain level of corroboration now, with multiple sources of information coming out and saying they have seen the video.

Robyn Doolittle articles should be banned from Toronto-GAF.

"Initially, the Somali man who contacted the Star". Toronto Pirates? Video for ransom?

Whether you like Ford or not, the entire thing is hard to believe. I even thought The Star had more integrity than that.

Kinitari has complained about the continuous reference and emphasis of the ethnicity of the drug dealers by the Star. But I followed the Star link and didn't read anything about "Toronto Pirates." Are you insinuating that Somali == Pirates?

One person, who described himself as an organizer in the Somali community, told the Star he had copies of a video that, he said, showed Ford smoking crack. This man was acting as a sort of broker for the person who had shot the video. What followed was a protracted discussion between the man and Star reporters. The broker said he represented two Somali men who had supplied crack cocaine to the mayor in the Dixon Rd. area. The Star was not able to verify those claims.

I'm not insinuating anything. They admit they are drug dealers and are now trying to extort money out of the highest bidder for this video. I don't care where they are from, this shit isn't ok. And yea, they have a pirate mentality.

So you are saying that after gawker runs the story confirming they saw what the star saw, the star runs the story also and that means they don't have integrity?

They kinda have been sitting on this for 2 weeks

Can you confirm, without a doubt, from a cell phone video, that Ford was in fact smoking crack? Because I doubt that very much.

Even if you couldn't confirm it was crack, you probably could confirm he was doing drugs. The star says them self they had no way to confirm the video but it looked like, and sounded like ford. (Mainly because they are watching on a cellphone) The crack part came from the drug dealers themselves.

You could confirm its him being racist, you could confirm him using homophobic slurs, however.

Rofl, I don't even understand what you are saying.

Non-Somali people have done this sort of thing in the past. I think, in fact the majority of people who've done this sort of thing in the past have not been Somali. When a Somali person does it, it's suddenly a point of interest and an insinuation of their innate 'pirate mentality'?

No, but that's not what's up for debate here. The Toronto Star wrote an article about two guys watching a video and what it appeared to depict; considering the consistency of the accounts, I am fairly certain that at least a half dozen people have watched a video of what appears to be Ford smoking crack. If the Star printed "FORD CONFIRMED CRACK-SMOKER" then your line of questioning would be relevant but they didn't so it's not.

"Without a doubt" roughly equals "beyond a reasonable doubt", the standard for a criminal conviction.

I don't think anyone is saying that. But to run with the analogy, we certainly would have at this point "reasonable grounds to believe" that Ford does, indeed, smoke crack.

Which is to say, in my opinion, that saying "I find this hard to believe" doesn't really fly at this point.

Two thoughts:

1. Somewhere, Sarah Thompson is feeling at least a little vindicated.

2. My news feeds are looking more like onion articles than real life. The truth is stranger than ffiction.

Will QA for food.
The video is bad enough, even if Ford isn't smoking anything illegal (if you want to be that naive), it's just another instance of him being a buffoon with his comments in the video. The guy is a disgrace of a Mayor.

How is this for integrity: the star was offered to buy the tape after seeing it, but didn't. You know, as the sellers are drug dealers and all.

Not only that, but they sat on the story until another party essentially forced their hand by putting it out there.

I've been uneasy with some of the star's actions with regard to Ford in the past, but I have no issues with them here.

I think the "Trudeau is a fag" comment, coupled with the picture of him with the recently deceased guy, is cause for concern by itself.

I don't know how you can defend crack dealers, regardless. And exactly how many people have tried to sell a video tape of a mayor using drugs?

A grainy cell phone video can confirm that? Please. You don't have reasonable grounds. You have a video that no one has seen, besides media who want to blow everything out of proportion for their own gain, and you have crack dealers saying it was crack.

How is this for integrity: the star was offered to buy the tape after seeing it, but didn't. You know, as the sellers are drug dealers and all.

What?

I know everyone on here hates Ford, but this story just has way too many holes. Don't conflate what you want to believe with the truth.

Felt the earthquake, and I'm ecstatic. Last 2 times I was either asleep, or in the shower and didn't notice it. Woke up and wasn't sure if it was my imagination or not. It was very weak.

Alleged drug dealers. Just like how Ford is an alleged drug user. You seem to be getting snagged on that word.

Rob Ford in 'crack cocaine' video scandal
A video that appears to show Toronto’s mayor smoking crack is being shopped around by a group of Somali men involved in the drug trade.

See the problem is, The Star seems to forget that. This leads the weak minded to believe that this is fact and not what it actually is: weak allegations.

So we have lowered our standards to believing drug dealers now?

Hey, a drug dealer says it was crack. A drug dealer who happens to have a video of rob ford using drugs from a crack pipe. A drug dealer who also happened to have a picture of rob ford posing with a now deceased drug dealer. Hey maybe rob ford didn't have crack in the crack pipe! Maybe it was flavored tobacco! Or liquified Vicks vaporub! Maybe he was hanging around drug dealers at the time so they can smoke their vaporub and have a jolly good time talking about football and Trudeau - it's what I do on my days off!

So you would be fine with The Star posting an article about you without first confirming the details?

It was gawker who originally ran the story. 3 people are saying its rob ford. 2 of which are star reporters. 1 of them being one of the stars main reporters for city hall.

The likeliness of it being valid are pretty high.

What?

I know everyone on here hates Ford, but this story just has way too many holes. Don't conflate what you want to believe with the truth.

Oh, there's plot holes now?

No, I read that headline and I think that it is clear to anyone with critical thinking skills that we're at the "allegation" stage, not the "Ford's going to jail" stage.

The Star is sticking their necks out on this one. I'm sure their lawyers have vetted the story pretty thoroughly.

I was sleeping, not sure if I felt it or not, I did wake up before my alarm though
My door was jittering and hitting the frame.

The last time we had the earthquake, I was still at Koei during lunchtime, and we had though someone ran through the office and caused the floors to shake.
