I just heard photons and rocket science. SOLD!

8gb
5 billion transistors.

Very vague, I think it will pretty much conform to the rumoured specs. Honestly, funny to give transistors as a major part of the specs. I guess they had one aspect they trumpet over PS4 and decided to put that down. If they were ahead in flops they would have put that rather than transistors I reckon

All hardware leaks basically confirmed true.

The PS4 officially has a 50% more powerful GPU and drastically better RAM solution.

Seems to me like the 1.2TF rumours are real.

Also, 40nm? Isn't PS4 28nm? Welp.

I think the reason they didn't really give numbers was because the 1.2 TF rumor was indeed true and they didn't want to look weaker than PS4 for their big unveiling.

They also didn't mention the whole no used games thing which is now confirmed. Edit: (or not)

Yep and everyone kept on telling themselves that Microsoft was drastically going to change the hardware at the last minute...which is damn near an impossibility given the cost. It's underpowered.

I can't help but feel much of that memory is getting eaten by that tv kinect crap. And if it's DDR3.. oh god. All the games shown were daaamn underwhelming.

It'll be interesting then what they do for VRAM, that 12GB figure could well come true. Wouldn't be surprised to see 4GB GDDR5 alongside that 8GB system memory.

I'm fairly certain if they had an additional 4GB of GDDR5 in the box they would have mentioned it or at least stated that it had 12 GB of ram total. I could be wrong but I'd be extremely surprised if they simply didn't mention 4 GB of additional VRAM.

Welp, the next Xbox is weaker than the PS4. I guess the 3GB reserved for the OS is most likely true as well.

PS4 ~3 billion transistors
HD 7970 4 billion
Xbox One ~ 5 billion

Whatever that means.

Arstechnica commented on the transistors thing:

The reveal has also been big on buzzwords like "5 billion transistors" and "native 64-bit architecture" that don't really mean much without any context, but Wired's Gadget Lab has some more information for us: much like the PlayStation 4, the One uses a custom-designed APU from AMD (hence, 64-bit), and this APU apparently brings the CPU cores, the GPU, the memory, and the other necessary controller chips into a single 40nm SoC (hence the sky-high transistor count).

so ms built a more powerful system but didn't said anything?

denial.

Denial? wut?

lol, and you think they wouldn't have let us know?

True, but they can't be using DDR3 as VRAM, it's far, far, far too slow for it.

...40nm?

Isn't PS4's 28nm?!?!?

Yes. Could be for better yields maybe.
