What happened to Michael Pachter?

I was just trolling you all in that last post.

Yes, I hang out with CEOs. Deal with it. I am charming and lovable, so why wouldn't they want to hang out with me.

Isn't trolling bannable?

So let me get this straight, you hang out with CEOs/Execs, EXCEPT for CEOs/Execs like Iwata who are "so charming" you might get too influenced and be unable to write objective opinions about their performance? Because earlier you clearly said you don't talk to CEOs because you want to be as objective as possible and that you lose objectivity when you spend time with them...

Question: Who paid for dinner and are you helping John with his job search? Cause I've heard it's not going well after he destroyed 60%+ of EA's market cap...

SniperHunter is kind of a jerk, though. I didn't say Kotaku was wrong about always on, actually said I believed it because Adam Orth got fired. I called Kotaku's prediction that there were cancelled games for Xbox One "dumb, dumb, dumb", and asked "who comes up with this shit?". When told it was Kotaku, I said "they print this shit and people click on it?" I have since apologized to Stephen Totilo for mocking his site, but I still think that Kotaku article was dumb.

Yes, I have a day job. I got to Seattle at 12:44 a.m. Tuesday morning, up for Best Buy earnings at 4:15, wrote a note and went to MS at 9 a.m. I left the MS event at 1:45 for a 3:15 flight to LA, landed at 6 and met John Ricitiello for dinner. I actually went home, wrote two notes, got to bed at 11:30 and was up at 4:30 for our morning call, then breakfast with another CEO, then worked all day and home at 5:30. Today, I have GameStop and Pandora reporting, and I haven't checked Twitter since I left Seattle.

I opened NeoGAF to read about what you all think of the Xbox One, and am surprised at the general sense of entitlement (the dreaded "E" word) among so many of you. As a group, NeoGAF appears to have written off the Xbox One because they didn't show enough games, and because you all already know how to watch TV and use Skype. I used the term "entitlement" because the general sense on the Internetz is that nobody believes Microsoft will actually deliver 15 exclusives, of which 8 are new IP, within the launch window. The entitled ones demand that they be shown everything, and that they be shown it NOW.

It is shocking to me to see this reaction. If Phil Spencer said there are 15 games, my guess is that he can name all of them. Articles on the Internetz calling Microsoft's showing "underwhelming" are just a bunch of whining. The box was spectacular, it does a lot of things that many consumers will find appealing, and oh, by the way, there is apparently a lot of new software. I am pretty sure that Microsoft will tell us about its games some day before they come out, and am equally sure we'll hear a lot more about them at E3. But since that's 3 weeks away, the wait is just unbearable.

Yes, I'm around. Yes, I'm busy. And yes, many of you on NeoGAF are entitled whiners.

I'll probably be gone for the rest of the day.

Couldn't agree with you more, not all of us are disappointed in the XBO. Myself I was well pleased with it and knew full well there was more to come at E3. A lot of the posters do seem to have a sense of self entitlement and minimum patience. Some of it is well within reason, but most of it is based on unfounded information, someone seems to be conjuring lies from their asses about online policy and used game blocking when several people have already seemingly confirmed this likely wont happen. People just wont wait for facts to properly surface before forming opinions, instead unwarranted insults take its place.

Patience is a virtue we just don't have, opinions will change drastically after E3. Our pitchfork and torch complex is something the gaming community just doesn't need, but a lot of the anti consumer BS we have to deal with calls for it.

Riccitiello had tuna tartare and broiled halibut, I had a giant pork chop.

I am not a fan of always connected, think it's intrusive, and think that it raises privacy concerns. I think Mad Catz needs to make a flap that can be placed over the Kinect camera so we can be sure the camera is off when we want it to be. Clearly, the always connected requirement will limit Xbox One penetration in places that have poor broadband infrastructure, and will limit accessibility for people who can't afford broadband.

I agree wholeheartedly on the used issue, and have told Microsoft as much directly. I think it is dumb, dumb, dumb to limit access to used content, and think Microsoft will lose more by doing so than it can ever hope to gain. I think this has been poorly communicated by them, have told them so, and expect them to correct this soon, certainly by E3.

Yes, I hang out with CEOs. Deal with it. I am charming and lovable, so why wouldn't they want to hang out with me.

And I don't think it is "entitlement" when people complain about takeaways of things like used games, so I think it entirely reasonable to be upset if they restrict used game sales.

Atleast you're a gentlemen - everyone take note of this - you must wine and dine your corporate CEO's before giving them that signature Pachter coitus.

I like your style, Michael.

You say this yet i suspect none of these opinions will be uttered in the next "Pach Attack". I suspect you'll just concentrate on "i told you it would be a TV centric system and it also has that killer app Skype!" and leave out all the negatives.

First tragedy, then farce.
Guys,

Pachter has an actual job putting out buy/sell recommendations for companies and setting target prices. There are people who do this in literally every industry in America.

He doesn't exist as fodder for LIST WARS on the internet.

When he talks about Xbox One and it's features and whether or not they are "good" he is talking about potential profit of the console for Microsoft shareholders, not how happy it is going to make forum dwellers on the internet.

I'm not sure why you think he would go into hiding because GAF decided the MS conference was a "bust".

I'm sure John is doing better than your boy Iwata will do after destroying 80% of Nintendo's market cap.

I hang out with ex-CEOs who invite me to dinner, and met a CEO for breakfast (a company I don't cover) because he invited me. Still waiting for that invitation from Iwata, and if it ever comes, I will accept.

John paid for dinner, it was his turn, I bought last time. He didn't ask for help with his job search, and we talked mostly about the Xbox One.

If I said I don't talk to CEOs, I made a misstatement. I don't reach out to CEOs or CFOs, ever. If they call me, I always accept the call. Iwata has never called. Whatever his failings at EA, JR is a great guy, and I consider him a friend. There are a lot of people in the industry I can say that about, but I can't say that about Iwata because I genuinely don't know the guy.

Thanks for being a voice of reason here. It's pretty cool he does engage here from time to time.

I would absolutely not miss the chance to buy Riccitiello a drink and talk to him for 5 minutes if we ever met at a bar.

I've always liked his personality.

I <3 Mr. Pachter. He was right about most of the rumors about the Xbox One. Gaffers simply can't handle it.

He has been wrong so many times in the past I can't take anything he says seriously.

You're ignorant of the breadth of experience that is Michael Pachter. He's been doing this kind of stuff for decades, and he commands a vast amount of respect throughout the industry.

Entitlement - def

The fact of having a right to something

Impatience - def

Restlessness: a lack of patience; irritation with anything that causes delay

Would you say Gaf is upset because people here feel entitled to being able to play something they may potentially buy without an internet connection? And that they should be able to lend/buy used games (even though MS policies have not been completely revealed yet)?

Or

Would you say Gaf is upset because people here are too impatient to get the full details about the games, policies, etc. and are just irritated, therefore latching on to perceived issues to vocalize that irritation?

Or Both, or neither?

Just curious what peoples take is...

Personally, i think its more or less that the lack of (good) communication, and how in the dark we still are on some of this stuff (used game policy, online connection requirements), have people irritated, and i really think its more or less a lack of patience (for some) that is causing this vitriol (again for some). Im not jumping to any conclusions until post E3, mostly for fear of stuffing crow in my yapper :)

It´s MS vision for gaming most despise - and rightly so.

What is their used-game policy? They specifically said they have not announced it yet.

The fact that their policy is different enough from the status quo that they have to "announce" anything is troubling in and of itself. That combined with the fact that they have given a different answer to every journalist who has asked them has people on edge.

Mr. Pachter, do you think in the future generation the hardcore gamers will be as important as they were in this gen? With all the turmoil around XB1, and the positive thoughts and consumer confidence on PS4, could it have a (huge) long term impact on sales in 2/3 years?

Love the show, twitter, bonus rounds, predictions, notes and, SPECIALLY, fan reactions!!!

I think he's a bit off base in terms of 'entitlement'.

The conference was a system reveal with the world watching. Most of which were likely gamers, people who want to see games. If they have '15' exclusives coming, then why only show...2? They completely left out the biggest draw to the system in a REVEAL event, the best time to try and get EVERYONE, especially your core customers, excited for the hardware.

Instead they gave brief clips of two games, and went on and on about CoD, which is multiplat and hardly looks exciting. If they have all these exclusives in their pocket, they could have easily shown 3-4 more games to maintain a positive reaction at the REVEAL of their new system.

Everything about the reveal, and all of MS' recent products have just been screaming, "ME TOO", and reeks of desperation.

Patcher is fine. I just wish he would drop the crap sometimes and just admit when there may be an actual reason to dislike the a particular subject. In this case, the XBone

But, he's just pinning on the same lame excuse - 'you hate it because of no games or skype'

There is a serious industry issue being decided here and if he's a serious analyst then how about some serious talk about it that and it's implication that doesn't involve being condescending or generalizing everyone's opinion into a factiod you can laugh off.

Of course he's gone now and won't read this
