Bonus Round: Dissecting The Microsoft Press Conference

I turned it off as soon as Super Saiyan started talking about what grade he'd rate the event. Anyone that far detached from reality isn't worth tolerating.

The XBOX one could run on blood from cute puppies and that Alex guy would some how defend it...

People like him, who have such an obvious and clear agenda, shouldn't be allowed on these types of shows, just ruins it and disallows any type of validity it has.

MS is investing 1 billion dollars in new games... How much Sony is?

Microsoft says they are investing 1 billion dollars in new games. Microsoft says ALOT of stuff.

We have two generations to go off of now. If you think that Microsoft is going to magically have amazing first part output when in the last several years they have been dismantling studios.... not building or buying new ones... you're delusional.

The box may be fine, im sure their first party games will be good, im sure they will moneyhat plenty of exclusives. But lets not shit ourselves, there is absolutely nothing that has happened in the last decade to suggest that microsoft are magically going to have more first party output than Sony.

Albrecht seems fairly passionless. He comes across as lacking the interest that fuels true critical thought of a medium, and masks it with zaniness.

Shame.

They missed the most important question in this whole Kinect -> TV -> Gaming box.

Do we keep our coffee table in place, or not? For TV you need the coffee table to put the beers and hot wings (sports) or popcorn (movies), but every time they show Kinect for gaming we're all supposed to have playing-a-game-of-twister levels of free space between the couch and TV.

Now that the gaming and TV aspects are instantly connected, where the fuck is the coffee table situated in all of this? Do I need to put it on wheels and connect it to the ONE?

Xbox Live price increase is a perfect example too.

Prices will increase at the start of a new gen, and then prices (and ads) will increase once people are locked in.

The Live price increase this generation didn't happen until November of 2011. The system came out in 2005, and was running off the OG Xbox Live price of $49.99 a year. With the new dash, the boxes for ads look like they will take much less real estate on the screen since there are far more boxes per screen.

Alex is a self proclaimed Xbox fan boy. It's funny seeing people jump down his throat for things he says when he straight up says that at the beginning of the video. What else would you expect? He was up front with his preference rather than hiding it and trying to seem unbiased.

As a whole, it seems a lot of people are still in that limbo state with the XBO, unless they are a proclaimed fanboy. It's a typical place to be, I think a lot of us here are since there is so much detail missing from everything we were told. E3 should be a fun time this year as we find out specifics and ultimately the games that will grace both systems this year.

Interesting comments from Geoff about PS4 and what he's hearing about used games.

Interested what he has heard, or is he going under the assumption mainly that publishers won't put the same game on both platforms without some form of DRM. We won't have to wait long to find out in any case.

I am sure I read that Kinect works properly now when sitting down. Of course for games like Dance Central you will have to move that coffee table.

Saying that he has no plans to buy a PS4 is implying that Xbox One will have the best games.

It is when you try to spin his words, but he didn't said that.

lol no different at what you see everyday here on GAF. He did exaggerated over Resistance and Motorstorm visuals tho.

What did he say exactly?

If you don't mind typing it here.

Basically that PS4 will also have a method to deal with used games.

He said "ive been hearing that playstation is going to have something similar."

It's no secret that Sony has a used game limitation system as well that's basically RFID. The question is whether they will implement it. A week ago I would have said yes. Now... I don't think they will. In fact i'm fairly certain of it.

Yeah, I'm sure they're in the process of figuring out what they can do that won't piss off consumers without losing publisher support.

Question is whether the weak willed gamers be able to vote with their wallets so that the prices fall faster.

I don't remember buying a game for $60 in at least 2 years and none of what was bought was used. That said, I think I'm going to pay full price for upcoming TLoU and BTS.

When I was a lot younger at the start of this gen and had way less financial responsibilities and much more disposable income, I used to buy at least one to two games a month day one full price.
Now, I'm lucky if I buy a game day one every three or four months and that's usually reserved only for those titles that I absolutely want to play and own day one. If Steam has shown me anything, as long as you are patient and wait a few months there will usually be a good sale on any game you could want. The problem with console retail games is that they hold their value for much longer (see Xbox 360 on demand games or any CoD game released in the last five years), so the used game market is much more important. I wish publishers would realize that, yes, there are those people that will buy your game day one, but if you wait a few months once sales start to dip and slash the price to $30 you will get a lot of sales.

Jesus the GT video player is the worst. It has always been terrible, yet they managed to make it worse in a latest redesign.

I knew Alex was an Xbox fanboy from watching the Totally Rad Show. He had no interest in his PS3 and would begrudgingly admit that he liked Uncharted or Journey or something. He was never quite as blatant about it as he was here though.

I've heard her name before but that's the first time time I've seen/heard/read anything by Andrea Rene. Honestly... she didn't say anything of substance. She had haircut over there to make her look good by comparison, but she really just said a whole bunch of nothing.

I thought garnett was on point and pretty elegantly explained his issues and looked to cut through the PR to what the reality was going to be.
