So if Sony does announce that there's no DRM at E3, what's next? I'd like to turn the focus to MS after that. Or is it Mission Accomplished?

I'd like to get Microsoft to turn around, but I think a lot of folks here are firmly in the Sony camp... which is perfectly fine. I think it's up to those with a vested interest to pick up the torch.

Topple one and then move on to the next. That is my hope at least. Would need a nice groundswell of support though. I think seeing this succeed with Sony could garner the required support to get MS at least considering a change of plans.

If Sony doesn't restrict used games, then MS would be under a ton of pressure to follow, giving a huge boost to the twitter movement on them. I hope at least some of you stick around to carry on after E3.

I think some people here have given up on MS though. They seem to have a strict deal with publishers now and with that, I think their arrogance is just getting to them.

Even if Sony says "PS4 has no DRM" that's still essentially leaving it up to the developers unless Sony explicitly prohibits online DRM in their terms for licensing and developing software for the platform. Hell, a developer could probably have implemented online DRM on a PS2 title if they had wanted to do so and wanted to setup the server infrastructure themselves.

So there's no reason for Sony to come out at E3 and say "We're leaving it up to the publishers." That buys them nothing PR-wise, because a developer could still do it even if they say "we don't have it" and just build it into their game code. They should just come out and say "No DRM" on PS4, and then leave it to devs and publishers to be the easily boycottable bad guys that have to announce that they're going to use DRM in their titles or even on a game-by-game basis.

At this point I don't see how either one of them can fathom NOT addressing these issues in their actual press conferences. Therefore, MS will be going first. Heaven help them if they don't back down and then later in the day Sony announces no DRM.

not sure if this has been asked or not; but what if the only way to have all your games installed on the hdd, and played without needing the disc is to have some sort of drm, wouldn't that be worth it?

i wish there's no drm on anything, but steam made me lazy. i love having access to a huge collection of games without a need to swap disc. it'll suck that xbone will have this option and perhaps ps4 won't.

I gladly will, but I think a lot of the momentum in this thread is created by responses by Sony. Microsoft will stay silent on the issue for the most part. Regardless, I'd like to be able to pick up an XBone at some point in the future, but that's only possible if they change their policies.

Just buy your games digitally on PSN or XBL then. There's no reason to subvert physical media for that convenience. To me, it's absolutely not worth it. I'm not a big fan of digital distribution.

I'm pretty sure they had no used game DRM from the very start, but now they're making it like its a recent "decision" to get some good publicity (not like that's hard after that horrid xbone conference).

lol @ that Yosp DRM tweet, it bodes well that they're making lighthearted fun about this. Wouldn't be surprised if they've already taken a stance against DRM.

Sony don't fucking care.

From the response we've got and the stuff we've heard from insiders i'd say the opposite.

Would be pretty amazing if Sony actually does choose consumers over what certain third parties want. Hopefully, we'll get some kind of definitive answer in less than two weeks.

My tweet.

I discovered many great game franchises on the Playstation by borrowing from my friend. I learnt about Crash Bandicoot and have since bought all of Naughty Dogs games and have The Last of Us pre-ordered.

Honestly, Sony would be foolish not to capitalize on MS' blunder. If they can say, they listened to the fans, more power to them. It just makes MS that much more draconian and isolated.

Tweets are slowing down more and more :/

Well, at least we know Sony has been listening.

I don't think they'd go as far as stating that "fans changed their minds". They will probably talk about the fans passion for gaming, adding that this is what they were going for since the reveal. Which is ok.

If anything, if they reiterate the policies they have stated before, they should troll the Doritos Pope. Because really, this whole ball got rolling with him.

Hell, after all this, if this was the policy all along, Shuhei Yoshida should come out on stage at E3 dressed at a "white knight" and riding a horse, just to pay back Geoff.
