Agreed. The xboners didn't organize, didn't cry out, didn't do anything. Now they are jealous that PS fans started a movement and is getting attention from various sites and Sony themselves. They had the ball in their court and missed it.

anyway,
I've stopped by the PS4NoDRM website. Very nice work man. I tweeted out the letter you guys provided and I've been sending out images of the "flag" as I like to call it. (the pic of the controller with arrows) It's a great image.

Can you put that on the site so we can auto tweet the picture as well?

Can we not separate the groups into xboners and PS fans, It sounds to much like xbots of old.

You can be interested in consumer rights no mater what console you prefer.

Sure, they absolutely could. It's their platform at the end of the day and they have to give the green light to every piece of software that's released for it. It's just incredibly unlikely they will do so if Activision says "Fine, CoD is now Xbone exclusive then."

The question is, would Activision do that? Would Sony have the balls to stand up to them in the first place? Those are the million dollar questions. Which is why we campaign. Because that's all we can do.
Hope you're right.

I think the console devs have more power then they let on.

Is activision really will to cut it's sales in HALF over a Sony not having mandatory DRM? Because that's what its going to amount to for most publishers. Not releasing on PS4 is going to kill any kind of chance at having record breaking sales. You would be missing half the market. They won't like it but they will deal with it. Sony just needs to stand up to them. They will cave in.

especially if Sony knows it has our (gamers) support, which means buying the system. Don't forget we need to up hold our end of the bargain, actually purchasing the system, en massse. enough to send a clear message that PS4 is the console of choice. After that it won't matter, once Sony takes the lead this gen. It's already the more powerful hardware and has incredible indie support and thus, will easily become the lead development platform. At that point, pubs like EA, Acticision, ect... will swallow their pride and come grovelling to Sony.

Had a few minutes to myself, started brainstorming some simple logo ideas for tags, avatars and the like. one is for DRM, one is for used games.

Got a tagline? I left it blank. I welcome any suggestions for edits. Color scheme was holdover from my dev kit stuff (don't ask ;-) ) so it's not integral (IE, it can be changed)

No suggestions, just wanted to say that's some nice work :)

I seriously don't doubt this at all. I said it in another thread that if Sony doesn't weigh the console down with heavy DRM like MS, what the fuck do people seriously think EA, Activision, etc. are going to do? Not release their high selling games that sold millions on the PS3, as they did the 360, on the PS4 and piss away a massive amount of money because they are butthurt on not making more profit on used game sales? HA! I fully believe the extra content would be on the Xbone versions of the games, but that's a small price to pay if it means doing the right thing with the DRM situation, think anyone would agree with that.

Apple actively markets their music as DRM-free, they could do the same.

All that matters is that two stood against many ... THAT's what's important. Even you, Crom, will not know if we were good men or bad, how we lived and how we died ....

So grant me my wish. Grant me no DRM!!!!!

And if you do not listen... TO HELL WITH YOU!

I don't see how they could do that without pissing off the publishers who will implent drm on their own. Coming off looking as the good guys will piss of publishers (probably the big ones) who will have their own authenticating servers.

It's the reason why Yoshida has been so dodgy in the first place. "we personally won't fuck you over, can't speak for anyone else!"

I'm talking about Sony going public with the news at E3, obviously they will be talking with the pubs behind the scenes.

Some pubs, I'm sure will demand drm for some of their games on the PS4, and Sony will more than likely allow it. It's then up to the PS4 gamers to decide if they want to purchase those games, on those terms.

blue is a much softer color and easier on the eyes. Red is too intense. I also prefer the arrows.

That is the one I've been sending everywhere.

Let's not expect it to remain steady until E3. We made our voice heard, we fired our shots, its time to regroup and plan our next attack right before E3.
Some other posters said it earlier, but we're done for the most part. Everyone has heard us and gotten the message - ball's in Sony and Microsoft's court now. What comes next is after E3, depending on what they confirm.

Again - it doesn't matter. It was never going to stay at thousands of tweets a day. It got the attention of Sony and they're watching and discussing it. As long as it keeps trickling in slowly, it doesn't matter.

ofcourse not, but i hoped that it would be a lil bit slower after the tweets were just exploding so fast. who knows, maybe we will rise in old highs again.

To be fair, Microsoft never looked like they were going to listen. I suspect that if famousmortimer hadn't convinced people that Sony was still swayable then GAF wouldn't have started tweeting and no one else would've thought it was worth doing either.

Of course that is true, but if we are successful in stopping this DRM shitfest on PS4 a lot of people on this thread will feel like they have achieved all they need to. Some (myself included) will continue to fight until MS gives in, but the thread started out as a "stop DRM on PS4" and that continues to be the stated goal. A lot of people just don't want the console they will buy with the games they want to play being infested with hateful DRM that won't allow them to lend or borrow games. Some may say it is selfish to stop if the goal is achieved, but it is less selfish than doing nothing which, so far, is what the Xbox owners have been doing (other than whining).

People can choose to donate their time and effort to any cause they wish, people like us who want DRM gone on all consoles can't force those who are only going to buy a PS4 to keep fighting (at least with the same level of enthusiasm) as they are once their goal is achieved.

It's like asking someone who gives to a cancer charity because their spouse/family member died of cancer to keep giving money to other causes even after cancer has been cured. They may do so because diseases are all bad, but it won't have the same personal meaning.

To get MS to drop DRM, the Xbox owners need to mobilise on mass like the PS owners did in this thread and they need to get tweeting and engaging.

Considering this thread was for gaffers to tweet their concern to yosp and looking at some replies on the first page I think we have done a fantastic job in getting this out there. I don't think anyone thought this was going to become this big, it really is up to Sony right now but a couple of days before E3 it might be a good idea to retweet so that they know we haven't forgotten. ;)

If Sony drops DRM, MS will as well. You are not going to see anything radically different between the two products DRM wise.

So I got an interesting message from the same person as earlier from the third party publisher. He has this information third hand and I'll paraphrase to save time.

Says Sony have never had any used game or online controls. EA's special relationship with MS is a result of this stance from Sony. However all EA games will be on PS4 anyway, but EA and MS are going to step up marketing for Xbone and give (timed?) exclusive DLC/content. His conjecture is that Sony didn't want to spell out their policy until E3 to capitalise on any backlash at MS.

Again, this is third hand information, but he is adamant that Sony never approached his employer with any kind of used game lock proposition and his friends at other publishers say the same.

this basically gels with all the known leaks, wherein there was never any mention of PS4 blocking games or being 'always online'.

i still don't think there was any chance Sony would implement a no used games policy.

I think a good strategey is to give Sony their moment of glory at E3 regarding noDRM (hopefully).
Afterwards we can start campaining at MS with the benefit of pressure coming from the competition of Sony. I highly doubt Microsoft wants to get bad press from E3 until release - or at least that's what I'd hope...

Call me selfish but if Sony has no DRM or leave it up to the publisher i am done with this .
I don't really care what MS is doing since they have so many different things i don't agree with that won't change .

Great to see an outpour like this! I apologize if this was already brought up earlier, but there are many posts to sort through ;) Playing devil's advocate, what if the used game market was driven by us on their systems?

To explain, used games ultimately profit the people who hawk them, i.e. Gamestop, and they are making hand-over-fist off of us, both as a seller and as a buyer. If you were to have a market, like eBay, or Amazon Marketplace where you can sell your game direct at a price of your choosing, including Free, and receive the full amount of the payment yourself, less the service fee (just like any marketplace, including eBay, Amazon and Gamestop), would that be enticing?

It could work like this:

1) Buy the game (physical or digital)
-> Finished/tired of it and are ready to sell/give it away

2) Go onto the XBO/PS4 console store and choose, 'Sell a Game'

3) On the 'Sell a Game' page, select 'Public Sale' or 'Private Sale' and set a price ($0.00 ~ $99,999.00)

4) Game is bought by another user, which unlocks that game for them to download on their system (if it is a digital game)
-> If you bought and are selling the physical game, add in shipping cost, and drop it in the mail for them to receive, like eBay or Amazon

5) You receive the amount paid, less the service fee:
-> Free games = no service fee, at all (could be used to trade/give to friends/family, etc.)
-> Paid games = ~5%-15% service fee based on age/type of game, with a max fee not to exceed in the case of higher priced games (i.e. XBLA/PSN games vs. digital or physical retail released games, then within those categories, age of game)
--> The percentages mentioned above are within the range of what eBay & Amazon charge for selling on their sites, and WAY better than what you get from Gamestop

6) The payment to you can be either digital store credit or reimbursed to the Credit Card on your account
-> If store credit, the service fee is reduced by a set percentage; if reimbursed to your Credit Card, the standard fee is charged

7) The rights to play the game are removed from your console, but your saves/etc. remain in case you get the game again
-> If you had a physical game, obviously this is mailed out, and you no longer have it

This solves many issues of how the used game market works, and lets you give/receive games for Free, while putting the money from those service fees in the pockets of the platform holder and game publishers so we can continue to have a healthy game development market, rather than filling Gamestop, Amazon or eBay's pockets who care nothing about making games, only about profiting from them.

Thoughts?
