Considering that gamers who would be excited about increased support for that control method are in the minority around here, I'd say my point still stands. What I meant was that Sony and Microsoft stand to benefit from it's inclusion more than I(and people who share my tastes) would.
Yeah? And? The new PS Eye is designed with the Kinect in mind, not the Wiimote.
Its a DS4 video, if you buy an separate DS4 it will not include a camera, that's all that disclaimer says to me...corporate legal stuff. But I hope it doesn't come with all PS4s.
Those games will still come, but it'll be handing the casual market to Microsoft on a shiny gold dinner plate.I think getting gamers excited about motion controls is a pretty hard thing to do. There is so much negative reaction to wiimotes, kinect OG, and PS3 move, trying to drive sales with more 'you are the controller'/waggle/glowy-stick will be pretty fucking hard.
Now the fitness/kids game crowd will be much easier. And, because ps4 will have an optional camera available, those games will still come to ps4.
Well, I'm not sure about this move. Not having it there from the start is just going to make it a limiting option, and no one will care about tacked on "supports optional PSeye" support. Either make it from the ground up for it, or don't use it at all. Not much will be made with it in mind though if it's just a peripheral, so that's kinda crappy.
*shrugs*
Eh, waste of R&D money then. The purpose of the light bar is to interface with the Eye. Frankly I'd rather have it all be bundled together. I agree with those that say its support will be DOA just like every playstation camera before it if it's not packed in. I think it'd be a mistake considering pretty much every xbox game will have "camera features" as well.
The casual market is playing on tablets. Those games will still come, but it'll be handing the casual market to Microsoft on a shiny gold dinner plate.

Sold Separately is kinda weird with the controller's functionality and all...
I dont think Sony and Microsoft are going to underestimate the casual market like you are.The casual market is playing on tablets.
If it's not included then I don't understand why they bothered with the light bar on the DS4.
The casual market is playing on tablets.

Casuals don't adopt $450+ consoles early.
How is that relevant?they do on phones and tablets?

It seems a rather silly business decision, yes the vocal hardcore minority will be singing this decisions praises but when the average consumer sees the X1 and PS4 together in store
the PS4 will have driveclub or fifa playing and the average joe+sally will be like ''it looks like forza 4/GT6 but slightly shinier''
and the X1 will have rares new kinect game with some new and cool way to control and joe and sally will say ''this is new and cool and it also looks shinier''
A new console separating itself from the previous generation is very import to prevent consumers thinking its just ''more of the same with prettier graphics''.
The wii and kinect/xbox live are proof of this and with the diminishing returns in graphics, it is more needed then ever.
One of the things GG will be using it for and I suspect others will follow in time is providing feedback pertaining to changes in player health.
In what universe are 'the average joe and sally' buying a brand new, $400+ console?
The people who will be buying either system for the first year/18 months are the hardcore.
Because consoles aren't phones or tablets.how isn't it?
"The peripheral was launched in a bundle with The Eye of Judgment in the United States on October 23, 2007,[2] in Japan and Australia on October 25, 2007[3][4] and in Europe on October 26, 2007"Yeah, which they brought back as a major focus clearly because of the Kinect.
not exactly. never underestimate the appeal of the "next hot toy" during holiday season for moms and dads, etc. There have been MANY cases (Cabbage patch kids, tickle me elmo, the playstation 2 etc) where people would trample and fight each other, pay scalpers 2 or 3x MSRP just to get their hands on one due to media hype.
Casuals don't adopt $450+ consoles early.
Yes. Tablets have more value to them. But they're happy to buy $500 tablets that get replaced every year?
I'm sure most people in this thread are happy with this news but in the long run I see this being super damaging to them seeing as the Kinect 2 is bundled with every xbone and is actually a capable piece of hardware this time round.

Nothing you listed is a $400+ videogame console.
and how will that work when the indicator isn't visible to the player? that LED bar is completely useless without the camera.
.

Phones and tablets are modern day essentials that can play host to casual games. Those users don't need to consider the videogame console, which is still a luxury device, especially as there is no new video disc format. They are never coming back, at least until the price reaches impulse buy territory.how isn't it?
What argument are you making up for yourself to debunk?Ohh I remember this argument! Phones aren't music players! Who wants to game on a phone!? Who wants to browse the web on a small screen!?
Nothing says Luddite like a hardcore gamer.

Yes. Tablets have more value to them.
Microsoft are just attempting to second guess what Steve Jobs was referring to in his biography. Very badly second guess as it turns out.Hence why Microsoft is positioning the One as more than a games console perhaps?

I'm sure that's what they're trying to do.Hence why Microsoft is positioning the One as more than a games console perhaps?
