Square Enix announces Deus Ex: The Fall for iOS [Up: $7 price, Video Footage]

Those controls look like a big improvement, but they still don't seem like they'd work for Deus Ex. The reason is that, at least for stealth playthroughs, careful first-person movement (as opposing to aiming and shooting) is critically important. Virtual sticks are obviously terrible for that, but The Drowning's scheme isn't much better. It seems fine for aiming, for looking around, and for longer-distance movement. But for close-up movement with a need for strafing, variable speeds, and constantly facing a target? I don't see how it'll help at all.

Fair point. I didn't mean the exact same controls though, but something inspired in that. If Deus EX: The Fall is going to follow the same design of the first one, it will need some tweaks for sure. I'm sure it can be done with a little thought.

They need to start working gyroscopic aiming into these bad boys.

Square enix 'nuff said

Gaf you just have to deal with it, this is square enix, from now on you shouldn't ask the reason why a game is on ios, you should ask why a game is only on ios.

Seriously though, why developers don't make their ios games for consoles too?

BTW, I am not up on iOS gaming at all. How new does your phone/tablet have to be to play this sort of stuff?

My phone is relatively recent (4S) so I'm guessing I'll be okay, but I'm just curious what the support is usually like for games like this that are (relatively) more graphically intensive.

I laughed, then cried. Have they seriously been teasing a MOBILE game like this!? I can't imagine how TWEWY fans felt (I wasn't one at the time, I played Solo Remix).

Anyways I'm getting Mass Effect: Infiltrator vibes, which, after the manual aim patch, was fun.

Even though it does look pretty close the Deus Ex: HR, with some further dumbing down, I just can't get excited about this game. For some people its great that tablet gaming has come so far but for me its just...ugh.

How's S-E track record regarding ports of their iOS games to Android? Because I'm not playing that on my 3GS for sure!

Hahaha. Oh man these reactions are great. The comments claiming that this is the downfall of Square are mistaken. Games sell well on iOS, especially popular console IPs.

If Square can market this game well, and it gets good reviews its gonna sell well. GUARANTEED.

Infinity Blade Series made over 30 million in revenue. I see no reason why this game can't do reasonably well. Development cost are cheaper on iOS, and everyday new units are sold.

With that said, hopefully a proper console/PC sequel to Human Revolution is in the works. I liked what Eidos Montreal did, but I thought it could've been better. Hopefully the franchise gets the sequel it deserves.

You'll be good. Generally these games are made to be played on 3GS or iPhone 4 with some slow down, run well on iPhone 4S, and run great on iPhone 5 with extra bells and whistles graphically.

you know. I actually can see these ios spinoff games appearing on next gen consoles in the future.

With the way publishing works currently on ps3/360 it probably is hard to justify porting this to those platforms and go through all the fun stuff and sell this at the same price as ios, but it should be easier next gen (on ps4 at the very least).

Has this tablet and mobile gaming focus been working for Square Enix or are they still losing a lot of money? Or is the low cost making it worthwhile? Are they preparing to pull out of console and hand held gaming outside of perhaps Final Fantasy and the odd hand held game once in a while?

What's so bad with having a proper game for cheap on devices which are much more useful than any handheld console?

Hate playing these types of games tablets / mobile devices. These types of games really benefit from physical buttons and such.

Because Deus Ex is a deep RPG/shooter hybrid with a massive and loyal following of PC gamers, who don't want to see a simplified version of the game on a platform that many of them don't even own?
Why?

Do you feel some sense of 'ownership' over the IP or something?

Hello Future of Gaming, nice to meet you.

What? Where am I going?

Oh, don't worry, I just... well... I just... uhm... I was just going to go outside for a minute. To get a pack of smokes. Yeah. Don't worry, I'll be right back... oh yeah, tablet gaming is... great. Yeah, totally love it. Sure. The Future and all.

It's not as though this is being developed instead of a proper DE game for PC/consoles.
