i didn't even think about that possibility, i assumed they'd do the original/X. i'd totally forgive them for legends 3 betrayal if they included volnutt in smash bros, or at least make him an alternative costume.

The Dojo didn't reveal unlockable stuff until after the game was out (aside from Sonic and Snake, who were first revealed outside of the Dojo anyway). Complete character lists were flying around everywhere a long time before the Dojo could get to them. And, even when it started revealing unlockables, you still needed to trigger spoilers in order to see them.

With Nintendo and Sega being so close at the moment I'd be considerably more shocked if he wasn't in. I agree with you on the Link replacements, spot on. SS Link had some great items for moveset potential, as I'm sure LttP2 Link will.

The fact that originally they were just going to show screenshots has me suspect they're much further along now; maybe they could be releasing the game sooner than we expect, then? Well, not necessarily I guess... but it's nice to think about.

Only played Wind Waker and havent played the DS-Games so Toon Link is still perfectly fine for me

Oh, come now. Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks weren't bad at all, and Toon Link is about to be a heck of a lot more relevant with the release of Wind Waker HD.
I predict that he will return and bring a dual-wielding Toon 'Dorf with him.

Down B: Power jump. Hold and rotate to wind up for a bigger spring
Side B: Sends out a partner to help him out. Maybe selected prior to starting the match? Koops can be kicked like a shell. Flurry can blow enemies away in front of him. Ms. Mowz can be sent to retrieve an item for him while dodging enemy attacks. And that's just off the top of my head.
Up B: Switchin' To Glide. Transform into a paper airplane. Small gust upwards for height boost, but extremely effective for horizontal recovery
Final Smash: One of them TTYD Star Moves, where you draw a circle around your enemies to deal damage. The quicker you complete your circle, the more damage you do.
In addition, if he falls into a body of water, instead of flailing about like other characters, he turns into a paper sailboat, but soaks in water and will sink slow or quick depending on damage percentage.

Why are people insisting Dillon is an assist trophy tier character? Sure his games are average and decent at best, but his character is fleshed out and lends so much in Smash!
If Samurai Goroh and Waluigi couldn't become playable, Dillon has little chance

Waluigi's Assist Trophy in Brawl seemed to suggest that the direction they'd take him as a full character would be as the "Mario Sports" representative. I think the series is big enough to get one. There aren't many other options for new Mario characters anyway. Bowser Jr? Rosalina?
He should, after all, a main character for a whole series should be more important than secondary characters for another one. But Nintendo will probably go for the more recognizable ones instead of the new ones.
Well, I'd assume they wouldn't show a trailer if they couldn't show any gameplay... Brawl had way less time in the oven + smaller dev team and look at its trailer. It had some real early gameplay (Kirby's Side B was still Melee's Side B) but it looked pretty close to what we got in the final game.
With a bigger dev team (Namco + Sakurai's team) it should be further along in general.
BUT I doubt it'll be a playable demo.
