Microsoft cancels post-E3 media roundtable

I asked this before but did Major Nelson delete or edit his tweet about gathering answers about DRM, used games, always online, etc and sharing them before E3? I cannot find it anywhere..

He stated he would share them before E3 and with everything getting canceled, I have a feeling he will say nothing.. He is currently dodging the questions on twitter it appears and I would love to see if that tweet still exists.. Someone asked him about it 2 days ago and he didn't respond. I am sure its screen grabbed somewhere here...

I've been wondering the exact same thing. Last week he said that and it sounded like the answers would be released within days.

It all changed after DAT 8 GB GDDR5.

Srsly. With the original amount of global memory available (4 GB) the PS4 could only have been a PS2 ver. 2.0. It could not have fostered a large social/media entertainment environment due to the memory footprint of all those programmes running in the background (would've quickly maxed out their alotted memory budget, or started eating into game quality). Having their environment constraints suddenly dropped means the PS4 can, theoretically and if Sony so wishes, do the exact same things the Xbone can (minus the Kinec2.0 stuff, obviously) cheaper (since their process is based on a simpler, easier to build arch). In fact, thanks to Vita's global remote play (just add Gbit WiFi) it can do more.

It can do something similar to kinect with the camera it has.
Funny gif, but I have to question the reasoning behind complaining about a lack of BC. It's not like Sony are offering any kind of BC at launch and their promises of Gaikai being used to fill that gap have yet to be detailed or proven to be a viable method for BC.
has psone bc been cut for sure?
Now they are also canceling one-on-one interviews. What is going on?

The beginning of the end.
what happens if both ms and sony don't say a peep about used games at e3?
sony has already said an online connection is not required, which gives hope, though they still have anti-used games tech that could still work in such scenario.

Someone just asked him.

Seems like a shit excuse, they are planing on a new machine hitting in the next few months, every damn ms exec that has sat in on even one xbone meeting should be at this show talking this machine up. That excuse doesnt wash with me at all.

maaaaan.... maybe scumbags is too strong, but goddamn these scumbags. They are going to avoid answering the real questions, and the real doubts that the media and the consumers have. That's a true sign of disregard towards the gamer.

Incredible, they keep digging deeper.

Also the all in one concept must be a mess to deal with internally, with diverging interests from several business units/R&D labs.

Microsoft are acting like cowards, It's pathetic.

Didn't know organizations and group entities could be given human characteristics. I'd definitely agree that this is extremely concerning as to their rep with dedicated/hardcore gamers who use the internet and forums for their source of news. Don't get me wrong. I'm not being sarcastic. I think this will have some big effect on them. I just don't know how it will all play out. I think this just serves as a sign that companies are not your friends as much as they want you to believe.

I don't know what you're getting at, but by mainstream I don't mean IGN or GameSpot, I mean CNN, CBS evening news, etc. More casual/general networks and media. :D

I don't think MS is overly worried about CNN or CBS hitting them with hardball questions about DRM or Kinect privacy concerns. The cancellation of the round table and now the selectivity involving even one-on-ones is obviously meant to target the gaming press.

Maybe MS is confident that they'll outright answer all questions possible at their keynote!

What an E3 this will be!

It's not even a real excuse. It's just another way of saying "Your interview has been cancelled".

If it was good news they would be lining up more interviews than was possible to do to spread that good message. No one turns down interviews to talk about good news.

It sounds like a full on PR lockdown: perform the E3 show, reveal new titles and IPs and present an extremely positive view on the system, and let the event speak for itself. No follow up interviews removes the chance of press articles with awkward questions or interviewees letting loose bad news.
Presumably MS hopes in the following weeks the any good will from E3, plus very limited negative press coverage will swing the Xbone back into favour.

I'd imagine they'll still give interviews to the mass media sites that probably won't bother asking about the used games/DRM situation.

Um, wow. What the hell are they doing?

Does he have any follow up tweets? What reason/excuse did they give for cancelling the interview?

Pretty cowardly if it was done to avoid the interviewer asking any hard questions, but I'd like to believe/hope they wouldn't cancel for something like that...

He replied to someone:

patrickklepek
@superpac Two different 1:1 interviews. Was told they simply couldn't be accommodated. Dunno if it's just us or other outlets.

patrick had already outed himself as being pro-consumer

i'd be surprised if they canceled all of their interviews, but sniping the inevitably critical ones is expected

Awesome bro, thanks for finding that...I assume this thread will start getting some popularity now that MS is NOT going to talk to anyone, so they aren't answering anything...Major Nelson said answers are coming soon, like 7 days ago....

Dear god, this really is what it looks like, they are ignoring the questions...They are turning their backs on everyone and not saying shit...They wouldn't answer a thing in the previous interviews and roundtables, said more info was coming to E3. Now its almost E3 and they won't offer answers or details because E3 is all about the games...Hell, they aren't even giving media access to their executives, somewhat a new console E3 tradition......

They really are doing this........

Hasn't Patrick been outspoken about the drm stuff? Maybe they're just targeting him. Still sucks of course but hopefully other journos will get the opportunity to grill.

Well no, I get that, but if the gaming press seemingly had a negative response during the meeting and the problems with the system were aired out in such a public venue, I guarantee CNN and CBS would cover it, and that would alert a lot of casual gamers and soccer moms about the negative press/rep. That could have damning effects, at least that's my thought process.

The pressure is now on people MS will hire on their stands. They must be running through the media teaining of their life as we speak!

At some point, this level of BS has to turn against them. Last friday i was talking with two friends who are 360 users (former PS2 guys) and they had no idea the amount of BS they are getting with the new Xbox.

They just said "it looks like you can´t play used games, that would be bad", but they know nothing in detail because they are only reading general media.

They don´t play online, i think their consoles were never connected. I tried to get them up to speed on the news but so far they are just waiting to see.

I wonder how much more time Microsoft will be able to keep postponing the news for the general public.

The only way I see Microsoft reverting from this PR nightmare is to put someone there on stage (not Don Matrick) to smash the Xbone prototype with a big ass hammer and saying that the project is cancelled, and say that they are working on a new hardware, more powerful than the PS4, without the always online requirement, no Kinect crap (amazing how they decided to force this shit into the console to make it more expensive, while nobody gives a damn about it), no used games control, and a nice load of exclusive games (since their image isn't as good as it was until 2008 in that regard).

This is how I imagine the Xbox One conception the way it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wstIBq2H0z8
