Kiefer Sutherland is the new Snake

Kojima's lost it.

I'm still holding out that Hayter's playing Snake in GZ. If that doesn't happen then I'll probably buy it second hand.

What I'm saying is that it's not a strange phenomenon. I'm not a psych major, so I won't pretend to be someone who can explain this with any eloquence or expertise, but humans in general have a tendency to react poorly to change initially even if the change ultimately proves for the better. You can probably look at public reactions to any interface overhaul to any website ever and even if the changes ultimately prove to make the site a million times more usable, initially, people will hate it because it's different.
Makes sense. Guess I'm really mainstream then :p

I remember watching 24 and thinking, Jack is the real life Snake! I honestly thought it was too weird that Big Boss had the exact same voice as Solid, and Old Snake sounds exactly the same as his old days. As much as I like Hayter, they should've switched it for each of those roles.

It's funny when studios hire big name actors in a desperate attempt to make the medium seem more relevent to mainstream media.

Even though the series is easily one of my favourites, Kojima has always come across as a failed movie director. Now he's got the opportunity to break into Hollywood, with the MGS movie supposedly in the works. Explains why he'd jump at the chance to cast Jack Bauer as Snake.

The REAL question is: Who will be voicing Frank Jaeger? the best character in the entire series.

..Oh wait, it'll probably be Kiefer doing that as well.

Answering Codec Calls for 12 hours, and 1 fight? Interesting.

Yeah well someone has to manage Outer Heaven.

As an enormous MGS fan I'm suffering a reasonable level of butthurt over this

Kojima's lost it.

I get serious MGS2 vibes from this whole situation and it's making me very excited.

We will all buy the game to find that Kiefer Sutherland has voiced every character in the entire game including the females, and Kojima will find a way to explain it all and make it a gaming masterpiece.

So you guys think this might be a way for Arad/Konami to position Sutherland as Snake in a movie adaptation? That or Kojima was just an idiot who jumped on the occasion just because they had the chance to have a celebrity voice actor.

Stupid, stupid move either way. And I like Kiefer.

The thing about having a celebrity voice actor... I mean..MGS has always been a AAA BIG BUDGET Series, and the closest they've ever come to Hollywood thus far is hiring Harry-Gregson Williams (...and arguably Lee Meriwether).

If it were just a case of "OOOH CELEBRITY!!111" this would've happened way, way before now.

I swear that this has been known for months and months.. hasn't it? Either way, I still expect Hayter will show up in some form. Kojima is always doing a bait and switch.

Everybody knew he was Ishmael. Snake himself was a little more ambiguous.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't get Kurt Russell to do it, although I guess his star power has sort of gone now because he pretty much doesn't do anything substantial anymore so in that regard I guess it doesn't surprise me.

I don't remember this much (or any) butthurt over Young Ocelot (MGS3) not having Pat Zimmerman's voice.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
interesting, so Kiefer is Big Boss....but Hayter has been giving hints about E3 & now we know its set in 1984
Not denying Kiefer is the main character (Big Boss)it but I reckon Hayter is still in MGSV.

unless hayter is really the most unprofessional person working in showbusiness this is probably some kind of troll

I definitely remember some butthurt, but remember that in the early days of MGS3's marketing we were all too busy arguing about whether or not it was actually a VR mission. People were making all kinds of insane theories about who the red-gloved guy with the revolvers could possibly be, and by the time common sense prevailed the anger over the voice actor change had blown over.

Simply put, people love Snake and he's the voice you hear throughout that majority of the time your playing through any Metal Gear game. People are more attached to his voice actor.

Oh man, I don't check GAF for a few hours and MEGATON.

Crazy, so that means in the reveal, it's Snake leading the player? Crazy.

Much love to Hayter, you'll always be the original, you're Sean Connery as James Bond. But Kiefer? HYPE HYPE HYPE stick it to my VEINS!

He said something at one point about how he wasn't confronted about the situation at all and that nobody told him anything about what was going on with the game so he couldn't comment.. and that's what makes me more confident that it's a troll.. he's been doing that character for a decade and a half, there's no way they'd just shut him out like that without a word.

I'm also pretty much ok with this. Sutherland was quite awesome in 24, which has plenty of similarities to Metal Gear Solid, so I can really see him doing a great snake.

I really liked hayter and he definitely gave it his all, but him being replaced with a great actor doesn't bother me all that much. Would be cool if he could still voice some other character though...

I hope MGS5 goes back to its stealth roots. While 4 was a lot of fun, it felt too much like a shooter at times. A well made shooter, sure, but not the kind of game I expected from the franchise. Heh, and then they throw a whole stealth chapter at you... and it sucks!

And most of all, I hope the story does something genuinely new, a story where I don't HAVE to have played like several hundreds of hours of MGS to understand the story. I've played all the console ones so far and even I had trouble following all of it, mostly because half the story segments were a snoozefest.

I guess we'll find out soon enough...

Early 20's

I was taking the mick.

I think the reason nobody had any major complaints about Ocelot's voice in MGS3 was mainly because it made sense. He was much younger than in MGS1/2. It would have weird if Zimmerman, who was around 50 at the time, did the voice of a young Ocelot.

The video reeks of "Troll" for some reason. I don't know what it is, but everything about it just seems really strange. As if the complete truth is not quite as it seems. I'm quite sure Hayter is involved in some capacity. Or maybe I'm in denial...

Im a huge fan of 24 and Kiefer Sutherland, but I would have preferred Hayter. Interested to hear what they do with his voice for the role. Probably deeper and more deliberate than Bauer.

It would obviously have to be a flash-forward to 1995, Old Biggy fighting a no-win battle against a 23 year old Solid Snake with THE REAL MGS THEME playing.

That = automatic best game ever. Even with the stupid fucking horn.

THAT needs to be MGS6. THE FINAL CHAPTER. You play half the game as badass, grey bearded Big Boss (voiced by Kiefer) and half as SS in his prime (Hayter). The game spans 4 years and retells the events of Mozambique and Zanzibar Land. Miller and Campbell are heavily involved. In the end, the CQC fight between Grey Fox and Solid in the middle of a minefield is GLORIOUS and goes down as one of the best video game fights of all time. Just as iconic as the flowers at the end of MGS3. Then comes the final boss fight. SS vs BB.

In the end, Solid kills BB, although the latter's remains are stolen. Solid disappears, and the final post credits scene shows where he went: he's shaken, despondent and drunk, hiding out in a little cabin in Alaska.

Oh my.. can it be..is it possible... everyone in the video was CG?

I'll take those remakes of Metal Gear and Metal Gear: 2 Solid Snake when you're ready Mr Kojima.

(With David Hayter as SNAKE)

Oh and the game based on The Boss and the Cobra Unit.

Now that sounds like the best game ever made.

But really MGS6 is about The Boss during WW2, which means that's the real best game ever made.
