its like the ps4 is the 360 (in all the good ways) of this gen. Better looking 3rd party games, great online, lower price. Can not wait for my ps4!

so if you have US,EU and Japan games and want to play online you need to have a PSN account for each region with PS+ for each account????

can anyone ask Sony this please???

I'm guessing:

If they are disc based then no but if they are download games then yes as you need to change accounts to log in.

You get driveclub on instant game collection with PS+ at release, so at the very start you get what looks to possibly be a good driving game.

It's 'Driveclub PS+ edition' whatever that means. I think it's likely to be gimped in some way compared to the full retail version, otherwise they wouldn't make the distinction.

That's a good start I suppose, Sony won't be able to afford to hand out monthly retail games though.

Maybe they'll tap into the indie scene that's supposedly being encouraged to develop for PS4?

Told you guys so. Still, No DRM and used games makes up for it I think.

How does losing one formerly free feature become made up by not losing two currently free feature.

I'm loving this lower expectations and people even arguing that it's okay. Such a revisionist history after the years of people propping PSN up as being free.

No this is a shit move and a shit load of hypocrites right now only hurting the industry.

Wouldn't surprise me if 99% of the people in here unhappy with this news will eventually get it, and wonder why they didn't jump on the PS Plus bandwagon years ago anyway!

PS4Life! You think I care about paying for Playstation Plus to play online? Hell Naw! Small price to pay to be on the BEST console of Next Gen Gaming! PS4Life!

I should've never paid for xbox live, I helped to set it up as the standard for online play :(

Still PS+ sounds nowhere near as bad as Xbox Gold, and being that I was gonna get it anyway, and that you only need one sub per console, means I can probably live with this and not regret it halfway through the PS4's lifespan like I did with the 360.

Ugh, while it's great that the ps4 doesn't have the drm restrictions I can't help but feel that Sony used that to implement a pay wall that probably wouldn't have been well accepted otherwise. This is pretty bad. It's just not seen as bad as what could have been because they announced they wouldn't have DRM.

I've been a Plus member from the start, but I'm curious if the pay to play covers the system or individual users. I don't typically play online but my daughter does.

Do you people who defend this crap really think that PS+ will be as awesome as it was before now it's behind a paywall? You're in for a hilarious surprise.

I think that it will be wort the price of admission if you have a Vita and/or PS3. PS4 only obviously not so much, as the library will be small in the beginning.

Or you're just hilariously pessimistic.

I'm not defending it, I'm gutted I' going to have to pay for it. But the fact that the console itself is 100€ cheaper, I don't have to deal with DRM and I'll be getting Driveclub and various other games for free, all this lessens the blow somewhat.

I think this is all mitigated by the fact that PS+ covers three devices and if you are invested in all three platforms, you already get tremendous value even without online play. It's why people are willing to pay for it now.

I mean, if you bought a PS3 and a Vita today, you basically get UC3, Xcom, UC:A and Gravity Rush for "free" with the subscription, along with whatever games happen to be free that month/week. It's not quite Netflix, but given that there's no real comparable service on any platform, it's pretty good.

I think that mitigates the fact that you need it to play online.

Now, of course, if you don't have a PS3 or a Vita, then the value of the service tremendously drops... but you have to assume that they'll throw in some more games as the service becomes more mature.

Certainly it's better than whatever the hell Microsoft offers for its own service.

That was a bit of a bummer after the used game announcement, but I genuinely enjoy Playstation Plus and would keep subscribed to it for reasons other than online play anyway.

Well forgive me for ignoring the naysayers. They told me the PS4 would have DRM cos MS had it, they told me it would be more expensive cos of GDDR5, they told me it couldn't be more powerful, they told me all the xbone rumours before the reveal were all rubbish.

Forgive me.

I don't play online multiplayer anymore anyway ... but I'm an advocate of PS+ and I have it subscribed till end of 2014. It's easy to find deals and stack on top of your sub.

In response, I would suggest PS+ has been awesome because it needed to be to get subs. Now it will have less need to be awesome.

I don't like that this happens, but somehow I guess they need to monetize on some front.

Not on PS+ yet, but I always hear only good things about it, so probably it's not that bad.

The bad thing about it is, that I cannot just buy the console, and that's it, I need to be on some subscription theme to fully use it.

And that's my problem...

On the other hand, I can still use the PS4 offline, and won't need to bother about this.

On the Xbone, I wouldn't have this freedom of choice.

Can we please not compare this to Microsoft's abomination in order to make it look better? Microsoft who has started most of these anti-consumer tactics is dead to me. Can you make excuses for it without comparing Sony's bullshit to those assholes?

Also, it's "DriveClub PS+ edition" so the hilarious surprises have already started.

Dedicated servers is pretty nice, though.

I'm not going to pretend they dont have pros/cons.
Unless you didn't buy the map packs for Gears... and I think CoD was always P2P, wasn't it?

In response, I would suggest PS+ has been awesome because it needed to be to get subs. Now it will have less need to be awesome.
Oh, I know that's true.

The fact that Vita was/is failing means that PS+ was probably fast tracked for it to try to push sales (why would you give away two of your best games, including VLR this month, otherwise?).

It remains to be seen whether or not the service for PS4 will be worth it. But even if they give away some indie games every week, that would be enough for me - especially since I don't plan to stop being a Vita owner any time soon.

I'll be the first to let my sub lapse if the games dry up and the only thing they offer for PS+ is online play though... but why assume the worst in this case? Look how that worked out for all the people who thought Sony had no choice but to include DRM with the PS4?

Oh god, so now we get xbox AND playstation "fans" defending pay-to-play online? Fuck me.
I'm a ps+ member, so I know what kind of value it offers, and even I think this is fucking annoying. So no, not everyone will defend this. In the end we will cave, as always, but we will cave proud, with freedom in our heart and defiance in our eyes or something.

Do you people who defend this crap really think that PS+ will be as awesome as it was before now it's behind a paywall? You're in for a hilarious surprise.
PS+ has always been behind a paywall. Hell it IS a paywall. I don't get what you're trying to say here.

DRM = asking MS's permission EVERY SINGLE DAY for the rest of your life to play the games you PAID for and are holding in your hand.

Pay to play online = optional, if you want to play multiplayer, and MS is already doing it.

DRM is a HUGE breach of freedom and respect of your customers and is going to cause a LOT of problems. Pay-Online sucks, but no where near how awful DRM crap is.

Pretty much. I don't understand how the same people that complained about paying for p2p mp this gen are now bending over for sony. It's still bullshit.

Sorry to be blunt, but I think a lot of you people are just tight arses. It's a service, you pay for it. It's less than the price of a game per year and on top of multiplayer there's a shit load of content that's being provided. True, that content is probably a trojan horse to get paid online past, but I'm fine with that and will give Sony the benefit of the doubt when it comes to how much of the discounts and instant game collection remain.

"But PC is free" I hear. As everyone was pointing out during the DRM debate, this ain't Steam.

I think Sony enjoyed sneaking this one past with the it's "We're DRM free, we are heroes speech". Sony is a business. They are struggling to make a profit, they had to sell their headquarters last year to stay afloat and they're releasing a console who's price barely covers the BoM, let alone the R&D, construction, marketing, and logistics costs. Also, I heard that servers cost money.

I actually believe that Sony and MS are aiming towards the same goal with a digital download only future, except that Sony is doing it with a carrot and MS is doing it with a stick.

Depends how MS will expand on their version of the Instant Game Collection
They said it would end in November when Xbone launches though, IIRC?
Either way, AC2 and Halo 3? People complained about the dry months for PS+ where they gave out some football game that no one wanted, but that's reaching pretty far back into the catalog.
