Ok hmmm wtf?

-Valve releases an update that affects the HL2 Korean language pack.
-The update accidentally changes everyone's HL2 language to Korean (non-SteamPipe).
-Steam Support makes fun of the incident by putting a G-man quote in Korean ("Prepare for unforeseen consequences") in its tweet letting people know the issue will be fixed.
-Problem is fixed.

Wow, she is incredibly flat chested :p

that's her back, dude.

I am probably just as interested in hearing the making of story of HL3 as I am actually getting to play it. I want to know how this project spiralled out of control and how many times the restarted it.

This.

I am hyped for another "Raising the Bar" book once Hl3 actually gets released.

with the tweet i think this is real, theres too much evidence:

-Its the anniversary of the Korean war or something
-North Korea is pretty hip as the enemy, see homefront, olympus has fallen
-Future Korea is hip as the futuristic nation in the future, see cloud atlas, other stuff
-Korea is pretty hip right now. dust an elysian tale has korean letters in it for no reason, other non-furry Korean stuff is also popular
-Valve support tweeted about it in Korean

Soon to be announced that North Korea bought Valve. Valve's offices will be relocated to North Korea to physically export the work done towards Episode 3 into a nuke that Kim-Jong Watisthis will launch against the aliens that will land on Japanese soil two weeks from now (source: his toothbrush). Japanese president/shogun Naruto Utsimaru is saddened by the news and vows to never listen to Gangnam Style again.

Doto 2 will be working for those two weeks as planned. After that you have to wait for an announcement from Valve (which will be soon (tm)). Hopefully it will be worth the weight.

haha

what

Surely he's joking? Not even Valve fans are this insane. I was pretty quick to jump on the ARG bandwagon at first but then logic took its place.

okay its not happening but what is "unexpected results"?

Valve made a joke of their update mistake. They probably didn't expect the korean localization to overwrite the regular english settings. That's the unforseen consequence/unexpected result :p

I'm sorry can you please explain all of that to a layman? I don't fire up my desktop actually that often. I know a bit about steam ranking, game counts but I'm not following entirely here.

Is this, that one particular user who is a special case scenario or anyone? - compare this against another account for me?
EDIT: this is starting to click................. It all hinges on a HL2 "beta" beiing updated - posted by "Alfred"
http://steamcommunity.com/games/220/announcements/detail/2110217062141668727

Hence the Level 13 stuff above and the Lev 13 elevator thing above.....

this is getting kinda nuts

When you say nuts I hope you mean in the negative sense. The reason he only has 18 games is because Steam and Press packages no longer count towards your profiles game counts.

The only thing that is interesting is that the steam levels do kind of look like elevator buttons, but that's highly coincidental.

So I tweeted this at Mr Marc Laidlaw earlier today

"@MarcLaidlaw Care to comment on the HL2 update today? Is it something to pay attention to or are we all just going insane."

To which he responded with the following two tweets.

"@dmax3901 Such updates are basic, necessary housekeeping. They are not driven by content."

"@dmax3901 Also I will plead with the updaters to provide verbose patch notes to demystify in the future."

Wrap it up folks.

I'm all for fun and speculation but seriously, someone close this thread.

EDIT: Although I suppose if it does get closed people might make a new thread when they see the PC Gamer image so actually don't close this thread, but maybe put these tweets in the OP?

Ok fair point sure but at least can we find out why on earth HL2 Beta was "updated" is this common? I didn't think they updated HL2 betas? I'm lost and confused.
Why did Alfred post it? He's level 13 - I mean that ,.. it's pretty convenient, a stretch but convenient.

This was just posted on shacknews:

Take note it was only written up 10 days ago.
http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/AdamFoster/20130617/194321/ Article on "how to do an ARG" basically by a Valve person, I find it interesting he's only just composed his thoughts on the last ARG, maybe ARG's are fresh in the writers mind?.... Maybe this thread isn't over yet.

Adam's post-mortem is in regard to the Portal 2 announcement ARG, which took place in early 2010. Valve's most recent ARG of note was the Portal 2 early release ARG, which had a post-mortem written up by an affiliated developer the month thereafter.

Marc Laidlaw confirmed about 12 hours ago that there's nothing more to the update. I doubt he'd outright lie, so Redditors are just digging for gold that isn't there.

Didn't some people said earlier that PC Gamer always does a joke preview like this and this not be taken seriously at all?

I thought that was just a sarcastic joke. But then again I haven't picked up a PC Gamer in almost a decade. So I have no idea if they actually do that. Seems like a pretty cruel joke if true.

Regardless though, it's kind of interesting time to post an article about ARG's don't you think? It's at least one more tiny piece of 'maybe' to this pile which is pushing it towards plausible. We need some cluey people in the games / files checking stuff.
Me personally, I'm not smart enough for that :/

As I edited into my above post, Laidlaw has confirmed there's nothing more to the update than "necessary housekeeping". And when you're a Valve employee, a company whose fans will look for clues in literally everything you do, there's no "right time" to publish something. ;) On a personal level, I don't see any connection between these two events: Adam's blog post was well over a week ago, after all.

At this point the comments and posts from multiple sources saying you're clutching at straws is kind of convincing me, maybe we're clutching at straws. :/ There's a couple of things which might line up but until someone finds something solid in HL2 - I'm not sure.

Man, if it is or isn't - it must be incredibly difficult to manage an ARG that much is certain.
