That's the best Fit, Modern FPS's not named COD\BF are having tough times in today's market, if you're going to do a multiplayer focused FPS your going to need a huge advertising budget, and that requires money.

I don't agree with EA but they seem the best fit for this type of game.
They are having a tough time because we keep getting tired clones of EA titles. The idea that you "need" a huge advertising budget is false. Hello Metro: Last Light with its 10% sized budget compared to its competitors. You apparently want the tens to hundreds of millions spent on brilliant gems like Medal of Honor: Warfighter, while so many of us want actually refreshing small budget FPS titles created by small devs who literally work elbow to elbow sitting on folding wedding chairs with money going towards game development needs that actually matter.

Yeah, I know it had the discount from their own site (which I missed), but it's still annoying that it wasn't available to preorder on Steam with my steam bucks, and to launch without any slight discount too, even a measly 10%, it's more psychological than anything, just to see that little green bar showing some savings. Still enjoying it a hell of a lot though.
To be quite honest, I am glad they didn't do that and went the Humble route where more of the profits go to them directly.

Civ is the only non-space 4x game you need

I really wish 4x games didn't fly over my head. Anyone know of a good youtube channel to school people that are not hip to the 4x jive?

I can handle SRPG and games like XCOM but when it gets to be so large in scope it starts to hurt my brain a bit more than my liking.

I'm a huge fan of Fallen Enchantress now for 4X action. Especially with the Legendary Heroes expansion pack. It took Stardock a long time but they mostly fixed Elemental and made it pretty damn awesome. Very fun.

Titanfall being an Origin game is disappointing but expected. Depending on the price I will probably just skip it.

Unless I've missed something, we don't yet know if Origin is weaved within the game's MP component or, much like Crysis, it's essentially a temporary exclusive.

Gamefly just emailed out their weekend deals. There's a pretty good on on a bundle of NiGHTS Into Dreams + Jet Set Radio HD for 3.99:

Also there's Assassins Creed III for 13 bucks:

I really disliked Assassins Creed III, but if you're curious that's not an awful price.

I need a "long" game, so I think I'll finally pick up AC3 for that price. Was waiting for a sub-$20 and I doubt it'll go lower in any other sale this summer.

It didn't really show anything spectacular other than graphics.
It showed agile mechs, freerunning infantry and people hijacking mechs after just ejecting out of their own mech. Looked pretty cool to me. Graphics honestly looked pretty bad to me, but I don't care too much about that as long as it plays well.

Sure, but given it's an EAP game I still don't think that's reason to assume it's a through-and-through Origin title.

I just mean, the GMG pre-order mentions that it needs Origin. So unless they have a non-Origin, non-Steam online system in place, I strongly assume it'll be Origin-only.

That's the kicker for hyped games though.

Now I'm having a hard time determining if GFWL is better or worse than Serious Sam.
In GFWL's defense, it doesn't have the confusing and terribly designed layout of SS3's first levels.

Hm, I see.

Some people would pay good money to be kicked in the nuts you know?

I am not one of them :/.

Incidentally, my partner tells me that post war [WWII] when everyone was convinced that it was only a matter of time before the next war and they all had to be trained to fight, they were told to kick prone combatants in the nuts in the field of war to see if they were dead or not. The thinking being that with bullets flying around it was the quickest way to tell if they were dead or alive and thus worth getting shot at to save. Fair enough. My neighbour is training to be a nurse and is having her exam today on what to do if she encounters a prone body like that. I was tempted to give her this tip but I don't think the examiner would consider that correct protocol. Shame.

Seriously though, what exactly is the issue with GFWL, apart from the kicking in the nuts business.

EDIT - oh and it's as unpleasant an experience as you might imagine, by the way.
Shit, that sounds horrible. GFWL has a reputation of losing save games, and when my internet was down a few weeks ago I was unable to launch Dark Souls (other games worked fine).

Dammit that GetGames Tomb Raider sale is soooooo close to getting me to buy it. Was hoping for more around 10-13 bucks though like the other sales.

So I've been trying to download DSfix for Dark Souls, but apparently the file isn't available for download anymore? The link on nexusmod.com gives me an error and the link to the file on mediafire doesn't work either. Can anyone help?

Does Origin actually have an 'online system'? I thought EA MP games on PC just used dedicated servers. Even BF3 can run without the Origin client with a hack iirc.

I bought Tomb Raider from the midweek sale on Gamersgate. Probably unwise since it could had gone cheaper, but I just couldn't resist.

Talking about Gamersgate, I just noticed yesterday that GG already had a page up for Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition. http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-MK/mortal-kombat-komplete-edition How long has that page been there? I didn't even know that the game has a set release date (3rd July).

Also, what with GFWL seemingly dying, do you think I should buy some Microsoft points and buy the DLC for Bioshock 2 and Bulletstorm? Or do you think those will be made available on Steam?

The first picture on the store page basically convinces me on the game....buuut will wait for a lower price :D

A quick look in the Steam forum convinced me that much more is needed than a low price. The game seems to be faaaar from finished and the dev can't work on it right now because he became a father or something.

This is a good point, actually. Battlelog is exclusive to Battlefield and Autolog is exclusive to NFS; they're endemic to the game, not the Origin client.

GFWL as a service being put out to pasture is nothing but an assumption at this stage.

Edit: Even if Microsoft does intend to kill off GFWL, there'll be an announcement delineating how this will affect GFWL titles and, if nothing else, you'll have a "grace period" in which to purchase such content.

Yea I think at this point it's a safe assumption that Origin will be required to play the game at all (in whatever way they wrap it). Even though Titanfall is an EAP game, you have to remember that EA literally threw money at these guys the moment they walked out of Infinity Ward. I'm guessing there's a closer relationship than the usual hands off approach you expect from an EAP game.

That said, if Respawn were wise they would have kept the rights to digital distribution for themselves (like 38 studios did for Amalur). But if they build the game to use Origin, then the best you can hope for from a possible Steam release is that it launches Origin and then the game.

Or, maybe I'm being too pessimistic.
