Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

Almost done with AC3L now... just need to full synch sequence 9 (pain in the ass) and climb the rest of the 8848m or whatever.

That Total Recoil looks kinda good -- it's native Vita? I'll pay $2.50 for that!

I got an itch to play a Vita game with good, addicting and long lasting online multiplayer. Is Soul Sacrifice the best choice right now?

maybe Uncarded - not su re about their MP scene though.

So.... I now own a Vita!

I don't have a memory card yet (trying to weigh it up cost vs size vs games I'm going to put on it.)

I only have one game so far and that's the Jak collection.

I have G Rush, Rayman and a bunch of PSOne games ready to roll when I do get a card though.

Welcome Vita bro!

If you plan to go all/mostly digital, go for a 32GB card, if you plan to own most of your game physically, an 8GB should do, although even so I would prefer a 16GB card.

Enjoy your Vita! It is an awesome little gaming machine.

Well the prices for me are..

4gb is £10
8gb is £25
16 is £38
32 is £55

It's not ideal

for people who go physical or mainly physical:

i'd like to know what are your opinions when you see games go free or get steeply discounted that you own...do you regret not going digital?

I guess if you are mainly retail you have already made the commitment to going retail so anything digital related shouldn't phase you..

welcome Moobabe!!! let us know your impressions when you get a chance!!

Yeah, prices are not on the cheap side when it comes to Vita cards. You could do what I did though. When I first got my Vita I just got an 8GB and I micromanaged the games I wanted to play. Then I got a 32GB card a few months later.

*sigh* fuck this "hold the guards off for 1 minute" full synch requirement.

Is that Soul Saga game going to be on Steam?
I see it has a greenlight and I'm tempted to give him the $25 for a Vita+PC copy, but I don't want to pay $10 for a PC copy if it's not going to be a Steam key -- and I can't ask questions because I haven't become a backer yet.

Metal Slug XX or Anthology?

Don't get Metal Slug XX until after you've gotten Anthology and only if you just have to play more Metal Slug.

It's a huge filesize and pricey for one Metal Slug game compared to anthology. It's an enhanced port of Metal Slug 7 from 3DS, and that's the SNK Playmore style Metal Slug from 4, 5 & 6. The one's with CG-esque backgrounds, reduced animation frames on the new art assets, sometimes questionable level design & imbalanced boss patterns. You'll notice the difference from 1, 2/X & 3. There's a kind of cool mission mode, but at the price, you'll likely feel like you could have done without it.

Also, as an FYI, don't buy the standalone Metal Slug 1 & 2 [Neo Geo Station] games in the PSP section. When I had my 8GB card, I thought I'd free up Memory Card space one time, becaue Anthology is like 700+MB and figured that having 2 Metal Slug's on-hand, at around 50MB was good enough to still get my fix. Nope. Framerate was so bad. It's like they're running off completely different emulation technology. Got myself a refund and re-downloaded Anthology.

Do get Shock Troopers, though. 32MB and one of SNK's best games... perfect for a quick arcade fix.

Is there an easy way to view the PSN games I have paid for?

The only way I know how to find it is to go to the "Downloads" area on the PS Store. The problem with that is that it it includes ALL of my downloads (including demos) across PSP, PS3, and Vita so I have to scroll for a while to get to games that are actually compatible with the Vita.

No idea. I'm not a backer either, but you could back it for $1, then comment, and then ue the "manage your pledge button" to cancel your pledge.

To be fair, Metal Slug 2 is so bad on real NeoGeo hardware (severe crippling slowdown) that Metal Slug X was created to remedy the problem. Really sucked for those that invested in the very expensive cart back in the day.

I'm still disappointed that Metal Slug never jumped up to 60 fps even when it was brought to more powerful hardware (ie - the newer, lesser games).

Welcome to VitaGAF!

You may want to take into account PS+ when deciding what size memory card to get. There may be PS+ Vita games available that you want that would justify spending more on a larger memory card.

I grabbed a 32GB card when I got my Vita and it has been full ever since support for Vita came to PS+.

If you aren't a PS+ subscriber and you also have a PS3, then it is definitely worth considering.

There is no way currently. Its one of my biggest issues with PSN. They have said that they are working towards filters for your download list, so I'm just hoping its coming sooner rather than later.

Other than searching for them on the store/search bar there's no other easier way unforunately.
Sony really need to have a sorting option for your downloads list, it's way too inconvient when you have 100+ downloads to scroll through.

Oh really? That's good to hear. And yeah same here, especially looking at how long it took Playstation to get a webstore.

Nope. If you just want to know what games you have that are Vita, check your trophies... but if you're trying to do anything utilitarian... there's only the download history.

I hope Sony does address this need, because I can't deal with that either. With DLC thrown in the mix, and duplicate cross-buy listings... my download history is seriously probably a thousand items deep. I'd love to be able to click platforms/cross-compatible, and select between game/dlc, or have dlc paired with the game it's for to fan down when i want to see it.

We still need a shopping cart on Vita too.

Good answer! Me too...and I have so many games on my PS3 that my 500GB drive is full as well. ;-)

Now, hopefully you've been "downloading" all of the PS+ Vita-compatible titles in anticipation of getting hold of your Vita. Get a large memory card and reap the benefits of planning ahead.

I wasn't unfortunately - I managed to snag Gravity Rush, Rayman, Sine Mora and a whole host of PSOne games. I might get a 4gb card for £10 just for PSOne games first.

Regret? No, not at all. Games I buy, I want to support. I chose to buy them near / at release, because I want my purchase to mean something, I want to push as hard as I can to see a continuation / see the company flourish.

It seems to even out to me; most sales have more than 1 game on sale with them, and I just get the others cheaper, now. They were probably also full price options when I purchased the original game.

Not to mention that if I don't get a game on release, it was probably on a sale. So the digital might be on sale now, but I probably got the game with gift cards, reward zone certificates, or as part of a b2g1. So often times, I got a similar price discount, and had the game months earlier, to boot.

And Vita / PS3 specific, I love NOT having games take up huge chunks of memory. 360 has so many smaller games (good compression, old arcade game limits), but PSN and PS+ toss 16-gig monstrosities at us on PS3, and 3.0 gig games on Vita. Times to download, times to install,... I much prefer not having the game take up loads of memory space when I'm not using it. And then I can spend my memory on loads of indie gems, or solid, high quality games that take little space.

I just wish more Vita games came with awesome manuals and pack-ins. Gravity rush at LEAST had a flip-cover that had controls and nice art on it.

Hope I'm not going to get eaten alive if I say the main character in Soul Saga from what I can tell from the kickstarter trailer looks like a completely unlikable, bland asshole... This sort of character only really worked in Disgaea, where the characters are demons or whatever and their world is supposed to be upside down...

Yes on the shopping cart.
Yes on the download history sorting. I don't know why they don't have it now. It's not that hard to do, programmatically at least. Build a form, populate with values, when chosen adjust the SQL query accordingly.
And I feel your pain. I think I have 2000+ items in my history. Trying to find where that PSOne game is or PSP game is for download directly is a pain in the ass, especially considering that when you renew PS+, everything you've ever bought from PS+ changes to be purchased on the day you renew. :\

whens the last time a ps1 classic was released? still so many hundreds of awesome PS1 games and its like we get nothing

i think sony should commit to 1 new PS1 classic per week at minimum

id be happy with guaranteed 1 per week as long as it wasnt shovelware stuff like disney movie licensed games or razor scooter extreme

MAKE IT HAPPEN!

im seriously almost out of ps1 classics to play on my Vita

Not to keep pushing the point, but one more reminder: There's something like 150 free PS1 classics on the Japanese PS+, which you can get an instant 15 day free trial for.

I don't get that at all. I get the idea that he's young and ambitious, but his personality is perfectly set up for him to go through an actual arc of development. He can be knocked down a few pegs, but he'll still eventually get back up, and set out on his original goal, just with a more matured focus.

I found the interaction between he and the main girl to be nice, as they both serve to play with our expectations of the genre. "You sure you're not doing this for revenge?" "No, why would I? My old man just pestered me!" (list a bunch of things that are actually kinda nice) "Uh, that doesn't sound anything like what you..."

It's not straight parody, and it's not terribly gritty and serious. It's pretty even and natural, which is something that doesn't happen in a lot of Fan-PGs.

Who cares if it's indie? What the fuck?
We should only care if it's good. Some "indie" games this gen have been better than AAA. I'll refer you to Hotline Miami on Vita as an example. :p

If it's a suggestion to try it out, that's fine and all, but you need to then have a second memory card, be able to read some japanese (in some cases at least), as well as need to eventually deal with making a sub and paying in yen or whatever if you want to continue.

The person you responded to has it right though. EU has over 180 PSOne classics. We don't have that. Why are games like MGS not available on the store and need to be side loaded on PS3? It's just more SCEA incompetence we can't really do jack about.

--

What was Ubisoft thinking about with this "climb 8848 meters" trophy? Yeah, it's mount everest -- but based on the number of RHP to synchronize and even the fact that I did more climbing than most people going for platinum before grinding this trophy, I needed over 3000m left to climb and didn't have much left to do in the game.

I'm currently grinding it, but with automation... ;) rubber bands FTW.

we just need more stuff period

the PS1 had thousands and thousands of titles

is there a 3ds equivalent to this thread? Have a chanve to get a xl for 130 and was wonder how good a deal it is even if lightly scratched. From what ive seen its pretty good, no sure if worth it despite this.

Yes! For 15 days. I know I'd be burned out on PS1 classics if I had that large a catalog to play with for 2 weeks. Haven't touched them myself, though. Apart from a Turbo-Grafx16 Zelda clone.

I assume PSN accepts foreign credit cards though? The conversion's around 1:100 nowadays.

I don't mind either, but it's not fair to people who don't have a PS3.
Want to buy a PSVita instead of a PSP for playing PSP and PSOne games with the perk of playing a couple Vita titles like Gravity Rush? Probably not worth it in NA unless you own a PS3 and everything you want to play is transferrable via side load. It's ridiculous.

Muramasa plays more like an action game with simple controls than a beat-em-up. Just remember to keep forging new swords if you don't want to feel underpowered.

That's what I ended up doing -- I had so many runs on it where I didn't get hit and yet it didn't pop the full synch requirement.

There's talk on some forums that it's glitched and you can't restart checkpoint if you fuck up, which sucks.

Either way, platinum is done, AC3L is deleted. Next!

Overall, as a whole, I think the translation sounds pretty accurate to what's being said, though it does have those odd moments of comedy that I wonder "really?", but some of those have actually worked out fairly well for me, too.

For me, this is much better in tone than I felt for Blazblue, or Ragnarok Tactics. Both of those had loads of moments in the very first few sentences of each story I tried to participate in, where I just kinda rolled my eyes, and wanted to give up on the tales...

But here, I'm in Chapter 4 of Momohime's story (not much further than I got on my Wii play, personally), and I'm more invested into the tale. I still get the hints that I got from the original stranslation (Jinkuro seems to have more of a heart than he lets on, and his relationship with Momohime will be a point of interest, surely!), but the surrounding details have stuck out to me much more.

Overall, it's proving to sound like what I'd hope for, after hearing how LONG the characters vocally spoke previously; it sounds like the words are intent on explaining all the twist, nuance, and underlying depth of what the characters said.

Honorifics are normally give equal representation in English here, rather than just running them (and the character name!) over, and just saying "he" or "they", as I notice in some poorer translations. And the only characters who have said anything vulgar or oddly strong have been those who are in positions to do such (such as Jinkuro, and Kongiku.)

I'd love to see what others who have more experience with the game think, but there doesn't seem to be much discussion on it, even in the OT.

Bonus: (Wii version Video) Ok, watching this guy fight makes me feel like I suck at the game, lol.

It's a common issue introduced in one of the newer firmware updates. There's no way to "fix" it besides restarting your Vita.

I dunno, something bugs me about the new text -- it's very heavy handed or something -- I much prefer people who are fluent in both languages to give me a ... accurate translation of the gist of what's going on, not a word for word... so the Ignition text was probably closer to that.

Since it bugs me so much, I'm uncomfortable giving them $35 for it. When it's on sale, I'll suck it up and grab it and bear with it so I can experience the game (much the same as something like Okami where they use those stupid Charlie Brown type voices... Okami HD should've had an option to turn that fucking noise off).
