I canceled my next-gen console pre-order. Launch titles do not hype me

Even without launch titles, I'm looking forward to playing cross-gen games with better framerates and visuals... and getting my hands on that sexy sexy controller.

I guess I'll never understand spending so much money just for this. If that mattered so much to me I would upgrade my PC to get even better results, but meh.

I've got a huge backlog of current-gen games and the next-gen games I'm interested in are coming to the 360 (Metal Gear Solid V and Titanfall). I'm willing to wait until the dust (and price) falls on the next-gen systems. I feel no pressure to upgrade.

the money will be spent on better Q2 2014 games rather than on meh launch titles and cross-gen titles.

You can sell used games. I don't see how this will be different than the PS3. I buy a game for $10~ 20 off retail on PS3 (or PS4) when the games launch. Beat the game in 1~2 weeks, then sell it for break even (or profit). I honestly wonder why more people don't do this, perhaps I am letting out a secret.

I buy 95% of my games new, I don't buy 6 month old used games at Gamestop.
Gamestop does not deserve my money. The makers of the games do

I'm holding on to my pre-order to see what the first two or three months will be like, but I'm probably going to end up canceling it and waiting until later into 2014 to buy one.

I buy my games new.... most places like newegg do $7-10 off preorders. Some games give $15-20 game credit when you preorder. All of that covers 2 weeks of play time and still breaks even. I don't buy lots of used games, I sell lots of games I get done playing to afford even more games. The way I do it, means the entertainment costs me next to nothing.

Newegg had PC preorder credit recently.... if they do another console preorder discount I have lots of titles I plan to preorder.

For someone like me who's PC is a six year old Macbook that can't even run Portal, it's far cheaper for me to just get a PS4 than build a rig from the ground up and buy a monitor.

That's how I'm feeling. The delay of inFamous: Second Son into 2014 has made me not want the system. I'm thinking I'll get a PS4 this time next year, with inFamous, Diablo III, MGSV (if it's out by then), and a bunch of indie games.

I just hope I can redeem my PS+ freebies through the web store so they're all ready to play when I buy one.

This gen keeps on giving. Hell, my most anticipated games right now are GTA V, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and Dark Souls II. I'm in no rush.

Granted I was hyped by the next gen console unveil and bought into to hype of pre-ordering.

2 weeks later I pondering and said ''hmmm, none of the launch titles or Q4 titles for that matter garner my interest'' ''I will wait''

I rather wait until Gaikai is fully operational in 2014

I completely understand and I admire your willpower.

I got hyped up too, and I know the videogame spaz side of me is never going to cancel my launch day console pre-order. But the other half of me is thinking 'there are no killer apps - just take that money and buy every single AAA holiday title for 360'.

I would buy the console without any game.
The price is not going to be lowered any time soon and I will be able to play demos, free to play and small games.

I plan to buy watch dogs and the witness though

November - > March; The game still comes out in the first 3-5 months. It's not like you can't find 3-5 months of play time in Knack/Drive Club/Watchdogs/AC:BF/Killzone if those games interest you. More than enough to play until second son comes out before the end of March (End of March was the latest date).

I did the same. The death of my phat made me realise I want to wait for mid cycle hardware revisions or at least give it a year for good games that I can't get on PC, price cuts and confirmation the hardware is OK.

It's wise to wait until after launch to purchase consoles. Launch titles usually aren't that great and there are usually hardware issues with launch systems. However, if you can't wait, then that's the risk you are taking. I just upgraded my PC so I have no intention on getting any next-gen system yet. There aren't really any exclusives that I'm interested in yet. I will eventually get a PS4 when the software is there. 2014-2015 is the time that I might eventually buy one.

Even slim or super slim don't have 6+ year expected life spans. My phat is still functioning, but it has long passed its expected life span. Most electronics have an expected life span of 3-5 years.

It is also possible to lose features; Fat had card readers, PS2 compatibility etc.

I'm getting married in November so the only way I'm gonna get one of those consoles at or near launch is if someone or a group of people get me one as a wedding present. Beyond that, I'll be waiting for either a price drop or a game that I'm just dying to play...probably whichever comes first.

yeah bit it's been dodgy for years and I had barely used it as I knew it was going so got a slim. an attempt to use it for the LOU killed it for good.
but yeah, this kit rarely lasts well early up and I'm happy to wait as I have no need to rush.

price curs and bundles are always cool too.

I cancelled my PS4 preorder too. In it's place I've bought a PS3 with a year of PS+, and spent £200+ on rebuilding my N64 collection.

I'm happy. I've got my 3DS and Wii U too, and my trusty PC will run Dark Souls 2 like a dream.

I can wait to buy a PS4.

Cool.

Did the same.

Although that was to put the money into a new graphics card.. BF4 on PC and nothing really at release for me.

Looking like Spring 2014 for Xbone.

You sounded quite reasonable to me until you namedropped Gaikai as something to look forward for.

I don't doubt it, with how retarded most PC gamers today are. Unless you were sarcastic on your first post, didn't realize it.
What the hell?

Price isn't going down anytime soon, so you don't really benefit too much by waiting if you're going to pick it up before a price drop. Not that it's a bad choice, but I'm looking forward to playing upgraded versions of current gen games even.

I guess for me i look at it differently since I already have PS+. I'm just getting the console and whatever stuff i get free or heavily discounted from the sony store. I mean, I can't see the price of the console being any cheaper within the next year so I'll be spending that money anyway.

congrats on the tag.

I feel the same way about the games, the ones I look most forward to, Infamous SS, MGS 5, FF15, KH3, The Division, won't be out this year. But it's not like these consoles will get a price cut in 2014, so what's the difference between preorder vs buying next year?

Thank you very much for letting us know man.
I can see why you would feel the need to share that info with us and make a thread about it.

Maybe wait for a list of games before you preorder?

I've preordered but I have no idea why to be honest. All looks so meh, nothing that interests me.

I could just get FIFA 14 and that will probably keep me using it until stuff like Witcher 3, Destiny, FF XV & Dragon Age 3 come out but I could easily wait.

This is what I'm planning too. Price won't be dropping for a good while, and I have PS+ through 2014. There will be a trickle of indie stuff to play on that service, and I've been meaning to check out Planetside 2.

Since I know I'll definitely buy one at some point, the reasonable launch price makes it attractive to just get it right away. The biggest risk as I see it right now is some kind of catastrophic hardware issue, but I've had decent reliability on PS hardware so I'll take that risk.

Graphics matter to me. I have a 1080p television so it will be nice to finally get games rendering at that rez instead of the 720p and below that we get now.

Also other features like being able to suspend games and the share stuff looks cool too.
