Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) manga thread of TOTAL SPOILER PANDEMONIUM

Ch. 46 spoilers leaking out... it seems the ape titan is the one changing the people within the walls.

Didn't we know that already? Either way, it was mostly a character-driver chapter that gaver Reiner and Bert some character development. It also gets us some rather (cryptic) answers. The part abut the "world future" is probably the most interesting to me, i wonder what they meant.

Something that wouldn't be apparent in a translation: Elen was the only character in that episode to say "saru" / "monkey" in hiragana, which might well mean that, unlike the others, he simply doesn't know about the animal species.

Incidentally, that would also constitute a second giveaway for that scene where Ymir finds canned herrings: not only does she manage to read the label, she knows what a herring is and what it tastes like. Whoops, Ymir. Whoops.

I disagree, it developed the characters and actually gave us some insight on their quest (why Reiner, and most likely Annie, are no longer warriors, which faction they belong to, why Bert is so silent and distant).

I understand people want answers, but not every chapter has to be about tweeests.

Yeah, about that...

But I also wonder what they are talking about with "no future".

Yea never mind. This fucking manga is trash. He literally wasted an entire chapter trying to get around explaining anything. Apparently nobody can explain a damn thing. This piece of shit mangaka.

No future is pretty much just saying the human race is gonna be eradicated, no? The fact that so many die just to kill one titan pretty much show they are quite screwed =/

What the hull is the difference between soldier and warrior?

Soldier being the role they play in the military, and warrior being whomever they are as titans?

Or are we not REALLY supposed to know yet?

Ever since the shitty Reiner/Bert reveal I've had really mixed feelings on this manga which is unfortunate because I've been 100% on board with this up until that point.

Hoping this manga can turn itself around at some point.

I'm kinda okaaaaay with them being who they are, but I really hope the anime makes that reveal MUCH more dramatic.

You compare that to the shock of Mikasa calling out Annie as the female Titan, and the reveal of those two was ridiculously disappointing. I felt it was mitigated only by the pretty incredible two-part fight that tied into their training again.

chapter 46

This entire chapter is just a cheap attempt by the mangka to drag this on as much as possible, by being as vague as possible with a lot of beating around the bush and talking in circles.

We didn't really get any concrete information what we got was

-ymir bring up the monkey titan, ryner reacting with "huh monkey what do mean" then have her speculate about the monkey titan being behind everything and ryner target is the monkey titan.

oh yeah and eren yelling (I feel sorry for the anime viewers that are going to have to listen to Yūki Kaji scream some more while there ears bleed some more).

This chapter could of easily been covered with 4-5 pages instead of wasting 45 pages, now we have to wait for another month.

Anni also said said something about "not managing to be a warrior, in the end". So, yeah, that's what the three spies consider themselves to be / aspire to be.

"Elen faces the very people responsible for all that mess back in volume 1 (oh, and his mother's death)? And it turns out they're two guys he thought were his friends? Nah, he shouldn't have yelled, and that shit should have taken a couple of pages, tops!"
Hmm.

My feelings exactly. It wasn't very good or interesting.

Why does it have to be dramatic?

I just want some build up and narrative justification. A twist only works if the revelation makes sense.

I've caught up to the latest chapter, and I'm pretty sure Attack on Titan is Metal Gear Solid 4 without the context of Metal Gear/Solid 1-3.

We're just getting shit dropped on us with absolutely no explanation. That's not good writing. I'm starting to feel the same way about SnK that I did about SAO - great universe, great concepts, shit story.

Really not seeing the similarity, here.

Wouldn't be good writing to have the characters just spill their secrets for no reason.

After reading up to chapter 30 I have confirmed a few things:
1) Eren is a fucking useless main character up to this point
2) Everybody keeps dying because of Eren
3) Because of Eren, everybody is starting to realize that there might be Titans who infiltrated the humans
4) Because of Eren, humanity has a little hope now

I still hate Eren more than I like him, but he's important and I believe that he's going to become overpowered because shonen manga

If they could just stop revealing stuff and actually EXPLAIN, that would be great!

The series has gone far too long without revealing the real "rules" of the world, and I think that has a really negative effect on the stakes for the action. It's hard to feel tension when you really can't tell what any single person is capable of.

The author also needs to stop pulling the "we need to get to the basement and all will be clear" card. It's getting seriously annoying to keep mentioning it, yet getting there keeps getting delayed. It's time to finally see the damn place.

Still enjoying the hell out of the series, though.

They've been pulling that card with Berserk for 10 years and I don't think anyone's about to stop reading it because of that.

I don't know about Berserk, but something tell me it doesn't stagnate as much as AoT is right now :/

Also, the problem with such a card being play THAT ostensibly is that your endgame reveal better be fucking good... And I just don't trust the author that much.

Haly

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Whatever the finale is, I trust AoT to flashback to Eren's Dad telling him about his plan, and then erasing his memory so he can play his part, but they were both in on it ALL ALONG.

I have this weird feeling in the back of my head that the twists and revelations towards the end are going to be shit. I love mystery and twists, but so far it has been nothing to write home about.

So does Annie say she's sorry after the Battle of Trost in the manga? It doesn't make any contextual sense in the anime as she's going to be later swinging people in circles while strolling across piles of dead people.

Yup.

Not following you. It's pretty clear the spies aren't particularly proud of what they're doing.

Chapters 1-9

Finally decided to dust off the 5 volumes I have of this sitting on my shelf and read through the first two. It's pretty enjoyable so far even if it's turned into this weird as hell titan MMA thing. I'm kinda bummed they didn't leave Eren killed off as it felt kinda like a copout given the "survival" bent to this but it's still pretty entertaining to read. The art's pretty bad times though, jeez.

I did like how the Q&A at the end of volume one pretty much spoiled the Eren turns into a Titan twist and the backstory with Mikasa and her scarf. lol

What I meant was that turning into a titan might alter your behavior somewhat.

Well it seems that Bert and Reiner have pretty good control over themselves and even Eren now seems pretty knowledgeable when in his Titan form. Annie also doesn't kill everybody she sees such as Armin.
