So does anyone know what I need to do to make sure I can still move over my 1.0 char or how I can upgrade to the LE edition of the game when it comes out or will all of that stuff happen at a later date?
Your 1.0 char will automatically get moved, no need to worry about that. There will be an opportunity to upgrade your account to include the LE items near release.

Next test:

Thank you for your participation in the beta test for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.

The next Beta test is scheduled to begin at 2:00 a.m. (PDT)/9:00 a.m. (GMT) on July 5th, 2013.

Starting from the next Beta test, the stress testing of the duty finder is planned to be conducted. However, the final QA check of the system is still in progress.

As a result, there is a possibility where the duty finder will not become available at the start, but instead will be implemented through the update that will be conducted during the Beta test.

With the testing details including when the duty finder will become available and also the closing schedule of the next Beta test, we will be making another announcement before the test begins.

We look forward to your active participation in the beta test for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.

No end date announced. This will probably last longer than other tests.

Awesome.

Just installed my PS3 client last night.

Maybe this is where I get to start

I wish the beta would at least last until Sunday night.

BTW, does GAF have a linkshell on Sargatanas? I think the linkshell in the OP is for Ultros.

Yes, the one that was carried over from 1.x. http://na.beta.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/linkshell/4503599627469193/ Look leader/master in game for an invite.

Oh okay. I was on Lindblum at release, but I quit pretty much after they started charging for it again. Well, I paid for a month, then quit because my friends had stopped playing, too. If I stay on Sargatanas, I'll try to get a linkpearl. :)

EDIT: So I was looking over my AF gear on that beta lodestone website, and I noticed the stats are pretty boring. Why are there no special stats like "Increases the potency of Regen." or "Enhances Benediction." Just something that makes the gear interesting.

Can someone please help me understand this beta. I got beta codes yesterday downloaded, registered ect. Can't play because it says wait for next beta. Today I load the game again and it wants to download all over again? Only for it to say wait for next beta? What's going on?

The beta servers aren't on until Friday, so wait until then.

OK, so I put a preorder in with Amazon UK, was give a code and went to the link in the email and signed up for an email when I can use that code. Am I right in assuming that this code is for early access and the pre-order items?
I cancelled my order after the getting the code. Will amazon re-use that code for someone else?

I'm a legacy member (bought the 1.0 CE day one) and they made no mention of us getting the preorder items (though we will get the sweet ARR CE items) so I assumed we'd need to preorder ARR for them.

Hi everyone! I've been lurking this thread for the last few weeks and I've been screwing around in the beta and I like this game! I was really overwhelmed at first because I hadn't played an MMORPG in 5+ years (the last game was FFXI which I quit after I got my BST to 75 and Treasures of Aht Urhgan just came out) and it took a while and a few different types of keyboards (PS3) to get a feel for things.

There's a lot of things I'm still learning and I'm still fumbling with the controls occasionally but each weekend I'm improving. I'm on Ultros and I always wave when I see someone with the GAF linkshell.

I finally got airship access and am finally trying out other jobs and for the 6 levels of it I like PUG more the MRD and I can't wait to try ARC.

So when the weekend starts up again I'd like to join the linkshell to get to know some people and get tips and advice. I've been pretty lonely otherwise. Also, what is up with all the /shouts? Do people not /say anymore?

How long does the character transfer usually takes? I applied last week, and my 1.0 char is still not transfered to the new server..

Did you look at all of the pad customization you can do? By default, when you're in a party, pressing up/down only selects party members. You can customize the left/right to only select enemies, party members, etc.
I played conjurer (healer) using pad, and the key to making it work is setting up target filters in the configuration. I turned off the automatic ones and partied using three filters (I added one later).

L1 + Square is party members only, L1 + X is enemies only, L1 + Triangle is 'friends', for when I'm rolling around on the field for fates.

My problem isn't has a healer (I'm playing a lancer), I just mentioned it must be worse because you have two target the two different types (enemies and party). But, stopping to think about it, targeting the party only must actually be easier since it's just up and down and you just pay attention to the list. I still haven't found what is the logic in targeting enemies.

I didn't customize the filters. I think the active help mentioned it once or something, but I forgot. I'll try messing with them this weekend.

You can also use 'lock on' (press X twice on the target to get the giant upside down rocketship on your target), and that means you can just change the target reticule to another enemy/ally, fire off an ability, and the reticule will snap back to your locked on target. That confused me at first until I figured it out lol.

Yeah, that lock on enraged me until I realized what was happening (I actually died once because of it).

Right there with you! Never played an MMO but I always wanted to play ffXI. I had to play as a MRD since I wanted to start at Limsa but I found this class pretty `meh`, so I started as an archer in Gridania and now I`m level 9 and enjoying it much more. Only problem is that I don`t think Id want to play as a Bard so I have no idea if I`m sticking with this class or not :S.
The UI is still a little daunting though, there`s just so much information...

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask this, but:

Which PS3 version is more worth it? Standard or Limited? Limited is twice the price and I hardly care about the extras THAT much, and I'm not sure how many months of sub I can even afford. Anyone know if you get extra months in the Limited Edition? Also, anyone know of any deals on the PS3 version? I'm guessing probably not...

These are the BRD's skills:

Foe Requiem: Reduces all enemy elemental resistance by 10%. MP is drained while singing. Effect is lost if targets move out of hearing distance, and ends upon reuse. Cannot be used with other songs.

Wait wait wait—I thought elements didn't matter in ARR, because they didn't want to disadvantage classes without elemental skills in certain situations?

ALSO: If I'm an ARC/BRD anyone know if I'd be able to effectively duo (or trio) things with a friend(s) (tank and/or DD)? Kinda tempted by PLD so I can offer support, AND also survive/tank in such circumstances... I'm mildly concerned no one would want me as ARC/BRD in a group, but if I can just roll with some friends I'll be happy.

I think it just means that magic and physical attacks with an element will do more damage.

Everything has elemental resistances, there's just no elemental weaknesses based on the mob's element, etc. You can see yours in your character sheet - just imagine those numbers going down by 10%.

The Collectors edition is swag only. The free month comes with both versions.
Also, you get some early access if you preorder any version

Huh, same times for the beta schedule. Well don't really mind this time since I get the 5th off, so yay more playtime.

Hm, didn't realize phase 4 wouldn't have Arcanist available to use. Now I'm not sure what to do since I wanted to start as an Arcanist. :/

Start as Conjurer or Thaumaturge since they will have useful spells for ACN/SMN/SCH, and then come official release, switch to ACN. There're 3 cities, so you can help yourself with all the starting quests.

Yeah, it's not ideal - I was looking forward to starting at ACN so I could experience the missions, etc. with a new class.

To add on to this suggestion, also let your Leves build up for your eventual Arcanist.

Not sure, but my transfer has been waiting for almost two weeks now. Probably has to do with which server you're trying to go to. Aegis is maxed last I checked, while Excalibur and Balmung will probably be the next to hit the player limit. Sargatanas is still 'relatively crowded'.

Ahh I see, thanks! I'm trying to move to Sargatanas!

I guess I could do that though I really did want to start in Limsa. But don't want to start as a MAR either.

Decisions, decisions. :/

Can anyone speak to tanking differences as it relates to the GLD/PLD vs MAR/WAR paths? Pretty much have my heart set on PLD with moonlighting as a WHM, but am curious about the mechanics of the MAR/WAR tanking alternative.

Starting quests leave big gaps in other cities. Didn't even realize how many story quests there were that are missing when you try to level another class starting in a different city.

There's enough starting quests on each city and close areas, and I'm not talking about the main story quest, to get a class up to level 15 if combined with the hunting log and a few FATEs. The story quests aren't the only ones quests up to level 15, there's tons of them.

Yeah, level 15 is right where you get held up if you do absolutely everything aside from Leves in a new area it seems.

There are quests for lv15+ on all the areas pertaining the 3 regions tho. Will those quests be enough to level you up all the way to 50? No. But there are still quests, even if there are many areas without quests in the beta, it's already been said that all areas will have their corresponding level quests.

And I mentioned lv15 for a particular reason: Dungeons. As soon as you reach that level you are set levelling wise, and can go all the way to 50 by "grinding" them. Yes, it will be a grind because you'll have to go through some of them more than once, but a good thing will be that you'll gear up that class by doing so.

Now, will there be quests to help level more than 3 classes (at least before a big update -2.1- that might introduce new quests), I don't think so, but then again, if you have taken more than 3 classes to cap or near it, you'll be more than familiar on how the game works and getting lv15 on a new class just on the Hunting Log, FATEs or leves, won't be an issue at all.

I've never played this, but preorded CE.

What would be the best healer, tank, and mage dps builds? Or at least give me a starting point.

Right now that's hard to know. Just choose the class you like more, unless things change using stat points would be easy as fuck (at least on DPS).

So I just signed up for the beta, being this late to the party are my chances to get in much lower? I'm lost on how many new people are being let in right now and when waves of invites start and end.

Everything has elemental resistances, there's just no elemental weaknesses based on the mob's element, etc.

This still kind of bugs me. I don't think you should be able to use Fire spells on Ifrit and still do decent damage. As a mage, it's always fun trying to find the right spells certain enemies are weak to and take advantage of that. *shrug* Maybe that's just me, though.

And I didn't really understand their reasoning about "what if your mage specialized in fire?" Umm, are there such things as specializations? I could understand if there were talent trees or something like that and you had to choose either fire, blizzard, or thunder, but... as far as I know, there aren't.

I like the class that's the best at its role. Hence my question.

There's no answer yet. No high end content have been tested, but seems like all classes are fairly balanced this time. I wouldn't look at which is best and rather find the one I have most fun.

Neither you're locked in your decision, you can change to any class at any moment.

That's easy:
  • The best healing class is the Conjurer.
  • The best shield-wielding tank is Gladiator.
  • The best crowd/dps-based tank is Marauder.
  • The best ranged non-magic dps is Archer.
  • The best ranged magic-dps is Thaumaturge.
  • The best spike ws dps is Lancer.
  • The best constant damage dps is Pugilist.
  • The best debuffer/DoT/pet class is Arcanist.
