Dual Shock 4 lightbar can't be turned off

Nope
The Console detect the light, and if its off the game will stop. Its like convering the Wiimote tip.
And also, I really dont want sticky glue on my controllers because of bad design.

but it don't do that since PS4 don't have a camera built-in.

The light bar was most likely there when Sony was considering having a camera with every PS4, but now they dropped that idea so the light bar on the DS4 controller is really completely useless and Sony need to just redesign the controller and remove the light bar.

Are you talking out of your asshole? Do you have a source for any of that?

From what I've read, and other sources, it appears the bar is for the Eye and not some derivative of the Kinect that affects whether your console is powered or not.

Excuse me while I start my #PS4NOLIGHTBAR Twitter campaign. /s

Not a huge deal IMO, from what I've seen on videos, it doesn't seem overly bright, and electrical tape can work wonders for small, annoying lights.

My monitor has a glossy screen :( Nothing a little strip of electrical tape can't fix though. :)

Please give us the option to turn it off, or only have it on when it is being used.

Um no. If you have a game that requires the camera then the camera will detect the lightbar and you can't cover. The console itself can't see your the from the controller and games that doesn't require the camera will work perfectly fine even when you cover that lightbar.

I just love the large quantities of complaints about something electrical tape fixes. But I'm sure Madcatz will have a PS4 controller LED sized sticker to buy to accomplish the same. Battery life is irrelevant for an LED on a controller that you can so easily recharge.

Would it be nice if we could turn it off? Sure, but if this is the price I have to pay to have the option to not buy the camera instead of it being forced on me, I'll take it.

That didnt stop the tin hat brigade from going crazy about mandatory kinect and spyware.

Put some tape over it? I'm sure updates will let you turn the light off eventually, but I don't see this as a big deal

There is no way the thing won't work if you cover the light. I have no idea why he said the console detects the light, that's the entire purpose behind the camera.

Xbox inconvenience - All hell breaks loose ( I know it was a camera, it's different, but still)

PS4 inconvenience - Thousands of excuses and ways to fix it you shouldn't even have to come up with anyway.

Can't see every game even using the lightbar. If it's like the move controllers the ball only comes on of its needed. It doesn't come on on the xmb.

MadCatz totally should make a dual-purpose Kinect blinder/muffler that you can also mount on your DS4s to absorb the light. We'd finally have a product we can all enjoy together.

PS Move light on my non-glossy TV:

While using tape would fix it, any game that requires the light bar will require you to constantly add and remove the tape. It's a tacky and flawed solution.

Why are so many opposed to asking Sony to fix it in the OS? Guess fanboys are paranoid about maintaining a squeaky clean image of the PS4.

If the light can flash on and off as an effect, then it can be programmed to stay off. Pretty sure there'll be an update to that effect.

Conserving battery?

Do you realize how little amount of energy you need to power a few LEDs?

Yeah not being able to turn off the light sucks, but certainly not a deal breaker and certainly not worthy of this gigantic thread. Nothing a little electrical tape can't fix if it's that much of an issue for you.

Not only that but if there's demand for an option to turn it off you can bet Sony will add it to the OS.

False equivalence.

Its not.

People caused a big stir because they didnt want a camera looking at them......solved with electrical tape

People are mad because this light can cause a reflection on glossy screens......solved with electrical tape.

This isnt about not wanting the camera to begin with, its about the issue with it always looking at you.

1) Complains about the size of a thread
2) Acknowledges that enough demand would ensure an OS feature to fix the problem

The Dual Shock 4 is now looking at me? Ceiling DS4 is watching me masturbate?

Also don't argue with ghosts, if you have someone that is actively opposed to a firmware fix, then quote that person.

What? No.

Hum, that's what I got the impression from the Sony Cam video demo. Maybe its only for the cam games, but still, why the hell would I need to put glue on my controller to stop a light due to bad design?
Its really not a good idea. Even Nintendo tell you to take care of your stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYjgHLFZMa0

Not even dim lights?
That's something I dont understand. Sure for the PSEye games, sure I can understand. But is there anybody that need a big red light to tell them "Dude! I'm so number 2! Wait, what controller do I need?! Help me!! Guess I cant play my game without a giant light telling me which one of those is the second controller"
This make no sense.

Yes. Perhaps the "Sony cam video demo" is a demo for how games that use the camera operate. Truth in advertisement.

Yeah, for cam games. Not regular gaming. That would have no way of working. To your second point, I don't know. I am not bothered by an insanely small amount of glare that I may or may not notice once in a while.

But if I was, I would cover it with electrical tape. Usually there is little to no residue left if you take it off, and any left over can be cleaned easily.

Im not arguing with anyone. I quoted the messages i was responding to.

Both problems solved with electrical tape.

Is this yet again a translation gone wrong. I cant think of any reason why the light can not be turned off. They can controll the light to flash/blink and change colors, so why cant there be an option to turn it off.

Im thinking that it hasnt just been programmed for the ps4 OS, and will be added on a later date.

A good bit of dark tape will do it fine. Although I'm a bit confused as to why it must not have an option to be turned off. I mean, it's pretty inconsequential regardless, but it seems completely pointless not to be able to allow that option. It's not like it's vital to any experience.

The point is not the glare. Lets say I play and I move the controller more to the vertical in any dark game. What am I greeted with? A giant blue light in my eyes.
A giant light is not a good idea. The notion that its mandatory to play with a color LED in your controller is ridiculous really. Wasnt 4 little red light not enough to show me who is the second controller?
I should not have to put tape on my electric products because they are too annoying.
And this do seem like it would show up often in any dark setting.

Lost all credibility.

Sony and PS4 devs have been talking about using the light for in-game indicators like health and identifying players in multiplayer, so I doubt there'd be an OS-level option to turn it off when they're having devs use the light for in-game functions.

Yeah, well you do. I don't know what to tell you other than to put some tape on it, and hope they add an option to turn it off in the OS. (Which they won't do if it is the only way to know if the controller is on)

My controller would be pointing below my TV in my setup so I don't personally mind, I can kind of see it being an issue for some people, but not something that should be a big hassle.

An easy fix would be to use dimmer LEDs/a more opaque plastic surround. I don't think gaffer tape on a controller is really the way to go.

Some simple clip would already be enough. The same goes for the Kinect by the way. No idea why neither company has announced something like that yet.

Cant believe people are seriously going to gaffer tape their new controllers.

If you have to fucking gaffer tape something as soon as you buy it, doesnt that clearly show that there is an issue?

My tv has glass, that thing will reflect like a bitch!

You could also gaffer up your TV. You need to think outside the box.

I think Sony should pre-apply gaffer tape in the factories. Maybe have Yoshida do it.
