Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

The shooting department is not that weak imo, there are uncharted and edf that are great and we could add stardust and other similar games

I would like to add to the strong ones:

Platformers:
there are lots of platformers, little big planet, 2 rayman, mutant blobs etc, many metroidvania like guacamelee, knytt underground, batman and maybe more

About the rpg, actually vita is weak, but ys celceta, valhalla knights 3, final fantasy x/x-2, demon gaze, holy sorcery story, dragon's crown(yes imo it deserves to be considered a rpg) and more are coming.

You have a good point about EDF and uncharted. I kinda dont think of uncharted as a shooter though but more of an adventure game. Vita has 2 awesome ones there with uncharted and gravity rush (freaking LOVED gravity rush).

I also kinda put EDF more in line with the hunting action genre and its not a traditional shooter. That was my main point really.

And yes RPG looks to improve in the coming year.

Has anyone bought or played Stealth Inc. yet? Tempted to get it, but there's unfortunately there's no demo. I do like the footage on YT so I'll probably pick it up anyway, but it'd be nice to get an idea on what the general user opinion is first.

I have only played it on android and my laptop. Its a fun game. its definitely a pick up and play game with puzzle platforming levels. I would imagine the vita version is the best as its pretty suited to it.

Personally I drift in and out of these types of games and use them as filler. They arn't my main focus so someone who is a bigger fan of the genre might help you more.

Haha awesome.

Im sure you will have a great time with it.

What kind of games do you like?

Anything that's good and not sports. I played through Persona 4 on PS2 already, but I'm tempted. The upcoming Killzone-game looks awesome. Maybe Persona 2. Thinking of double-dipping on Hotline Miami which is fucking great. I'll sign up for PS+ and get some games that way too, I guess.

The game is fine, but I don't really find it fun. Once you figure out the goal of a level there really isn't much "play" to the game.

OK well PS+ will get your uncharted and gravity rush straight off the bad in the EU. Bother are fantastic games. Gravity rush is a pretty unique game as well.

PS4 golden is obviously amazing but if you have already played the original I have no idea if it would be worth it?

My vita games I have enjoyed the most I would say are (in no particular order)

Uncharted
Gravity Rush
Wipeout
Sonic and sega allstar racing transformed
Metal gear solid HD collection
Mortal Kombat Komplete edition
Dead or Alive
Need for speed most wanted
Unit 13
Hotline Miami
everybodies golf
sound shapes
Ragnarok Oddysey
Earth defence force
Soul Sacrifice (currently playing)

Thats just off the top of my head. I have a ton more that I enjoyed as well but those were the stand out ones for me. Not to mention countless PSP games.

I saw quite a few neat games on the store that I should get around to checking out eventually, because I was busy with non-Vita related matters for a good while.
Welcome back (I think)!

Think God Eater 2 will be day one Digital?

It better have trophies >.>
You mean being able to preorder the digital version? The game probably isn't big enough to get that outside of Japan. I don't see why it wouldn't have trophies.

There. Now I own a PS Vita. Fuck.

Welcome all new Vitabros for the last 3 pages.

Vita community has really been growing as of late. Hopefully Gamescom puts it over the edge. For some reason though, I kinda hope we get that much more adopters because I'll miss the little small knit community vibe I get here on VitaGAF, Much more intimate the way it is right now despite all the new members.

With more people, It'll be more like an OT and all hell breaking loose in every corner lol
But at least we may be getting more games because of it

Question VitaGAF: How do you all display your PS1 games on Vita?

I would like to go full-screen but sometimes that warps the hell out of the display. I don't like using original aspect ratio because it makes the screen tiny as hell... If I go custom, I end up cropping a part of the display as well... Anyway to find a happy medium inbetween??

I end up switching between full-screen and the original.

I will use original aspect for a while, then I will ask myself why the hell I am not usin gthe full screen. Then I will go fullscreen for awhile and get pissed that it looks stretched.

sigh...
at least the games are really fun

I just use custom, lock the ratio and fill out the screen as much as I can.

Welcome new vitacats!

Great recommendations all around. Don't forget the music/rhythm games too. There's a decent one in the Playstation Mobile store called Cytus Lambda that got me into the genre. On Vita itself I hear great things about DJMAX Technica Tune. Personally, I've been addicted to Hatsune Miku Project Diva f (JP import).

PS+ is a great first step. The persona games are on sale until the next store update so make sure you pick up what you want while they're discounted. Hotline Miami Vita is pretty much the definitive version so yes that would be a great choice too.

Killzone looks awesome as well. I really hope it lives up to its hype and so far it looks like it will.

Just wanted to say I got Wipeout 2048 retail yesterday and it's FUCKING AWESOME.

Yes, yes it is. Fantastic for a launch title. I am glad that this Wipeout was the one that brought me back to it, I've been absent from the series since Wip3out.

Wipeouts A+ events are extreamly thrilling. I love them. Pure adrenalin.

Not just the A+, but those zone challenges...getting up to Mach 1 and up is nothing short of intense. Especially with dem zone visuals...

Edit: Welcome all new Vitabros, you have all made sound investments in a wonderous machine.

I would say Gravity Rush and Guacamelee should be your first point of call.

I just go full screen. The stretching hasnt bothered me yet. If it ever did I would just lock aspect and fill the screen as much as possible.

Oh and I for to say Guacemelee before. That game is great.

don't forget these (non-indie) games in upcoming months Dragons Crown, Rayman Legends, Killzone, Batman Blackgate, Tearaway, and Ys Celceta!

if i could pick one exclusive game i'd suggest going through uncharted or gravity rush first off plus.

Good to see you back Toma, was surprised you had not been around much lately with all the indie love goin down on Vita, though im sure you have played most of these by now. Welcome back :)

Lots of people will give you various recommendations on games, Persona 4 Golden is currently on sale for $20 so if you dont have that its a get, immediately...

Some other games I would recommend:

Platformers: Stealth Inc(Stealth Bastard), Sly Cooper Thieves in time, Guacamelee, Thomas Was Alone

Racing: Sonic Allstars Transformed, Whipeout

Fighting: Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive 5+

Arcade: Zen Pinball 2, Velocity Ultra

Action: Uncharted Golden Abyss, Hotline Miami,Strangers Wrath HD

Also dont sleep on Playstation Mobile games, there is some good stuff poppin up in there lately.

Lots of people will give many different recommendations obviously, but these are a few I recommend.

Hold it.

Stroke it.

Love it.

Its good to see you back amoungst the Vitabros man :)

Next few months are looking good for Vita from a game standpoint, hopefully Sony can inject some more excitment at gamescom. Between stuff like Killzone, Terraria, Tareaway, Kickbeat, Dragons Crown, Lone Suvivor Directors cut, Spelunky, and quite allot of other stuff its all good for me.

does this man know his game is worse on the vita?! and because it's worse i doubt it's sales will make it worthwhile to port more by him...
Is it?

The Kotaku article makes it sound like the VITA port is pretty good.
His efforts were not in vain. Upon first trying out the newly completed Vita-compatible version, Ando apparently yelled in surprise at how natural the gameplay felt. "We thought we were making a game for smartphones, but when I ran it on the PS Vita, it was a true Vita game through and through." Ando recalled. "It had such presence [on the console] I thought, 'What is this? This could be a new Vita release!'"

Was the frame rate any good on iPhone/iPad?

Not really the framerate seems not so great on any of the versions I have seen of the game Vita, Phones, or Tablet. The load times are alittle worse, but thats because of the read speed of the cards I think.

I always just play at the original size, I can't stand the stretched look. Kind of bums me out though since the screen is so big and I'm utilizing none of it with PS1 games, but whatever, I'd rather it not look like crap.

Btw, hello VitaGaf! I'm fairly new to the Vita scene. I bought a used one a few weeks ago and I'm loving it. Right now I'm going back and forth between SFxT & DOA5+. These fighters look & play great on this system.

I finally got all elite passes on those A+ events. Always tried it with Piranha speed, but no chance. But with Ag Systems speed its not that hard.
Still sweaty hands after every race.

My goodness dude, you just emerged out of the shadows. Why have you been gone so long?

Wow. Nice going. I'll try out the AG Speed, I had been bouncing back and forth from the Qirex Speed and the Feisar Prototype. Do you find that with the A+'s, you slowly worked your way up, or was it a "get in front and don't give it up no matter what" type of thing? I usually got overtaken in the last lap or so due to some dumb error. I have beaten the A+ races, but all of those, and the final protoype race are the only things I have yet to Elite Pass in SP. For MP, I think I am over halfway. Pretty sure I'm level 39 or 40, I know I am close to the cap.

Right then, Uncharted, Gravity Rush and Ninja Gaiden downloading now through PS+. Didn't even know the Vita had a touchscreen so that was a nice surprise. They sure could do something about that horrible looking interface though. Yuck!

Gladiator Begins (PSP) is like the only thing I play on my Vita right now. Very grindy but just so addictive. It actually looks pretty great on the Vita too (if a little bit grainy, obviously).

Not sure if I'd enjoy Stealth Inc actually... I don't usually like stealth or puzzle games and it's kinda both. Hmm.

It's definitely ugly, but it's extremely functional and fast.

If you want another nice little surprise, try using the touchscreen without actually touching it. Just get your finger very close, and swipe around. It's magic!

Lol, don't sound too happy about it or anything. I bet this is how you looked when handing your monies over...

not knowing about the touch screen?!! therse lots of little surprises you're going to find then.

such as autosave state when battery runs out and youre in the middle of a game... seemlessly transitioning in and out of windows mid game.. etc etc
