They don't? Seems like they've been doing them quite a lot lately.
Of this calibre? I don't know. This is being treated as a tent-pole title by the looks of it. I guess your speaking of 3DS ports?

People really expected it to be like $20-30? 50 is a good price.
-Nintendo doesn't lower prices of their main games much.
-It's Zelda.
-They want to make money
-They a few changes
-The other one came out 10+ Years ago. It can be argued a portion of the audience will be "new" so it can be seen as a new game.
GC WW didn't sell like 15-20 million, so it's not like everyone and their mom knows about it, considering how long ago it was released.
The market determines what's overpriced and what isn't.

The "It's Zelda" defense should be forwarded to Nintendo HQ. It shows me that Nintendo is charging too little for Zelda releases-- and re-releases. Nintendo is missing a golden opportunity to extract more money from its fans.
Can you point to an HD re-release that released for cheaper than $50 that did things akin to (a) improving the graphics beyond cranking up the resolution, (b) reworking parts of the game that were annoying, (c) adding new upgrades to facilitate travel, and (d) integrating it with new technology?
Honest question.
I can think of one that almost meets these criteria, and it's Age of Empires II: HD Edition for PC, which released for $19.99 on Steam, and which price I would attribute to its looking very dated even with some of the touch-ups they did.
Well, no, that's not what I mean.Is nice to see that you agree with the market that is overpriced, if you take in account the other HD Remasters.
i dunno. i always put tww hd on a level like remake, the twin snakes, or the pokemon remakes. the hd collections for other consoles felt more like super mario all-stars or the kirby collection.
Absolutley, Kingdom Hearts and God of War
The PSP God of War games in particular weren't a simple thing of 'cranking up the resolution.' New models and textures had to be created, just as these were. And both those examples have more than 1 game.
If they could get away with it, and have nice sales, then sure.What. I guess all the ps3/360 hd remastered should have been 50 bucks too.
You're the second person to say this. Why is saying this somehow justifying the price? I don't understand.

I'm curious here, just how is $40 a dream and unrealistic when the vast majority of HD re-releases and remakes are at that pricepoint or even lower at times (Ratchet Collection comes to mind at $30), and at times carry numerous games with it (two to four at times) and not just one? Is it just because "Nintendo is Nintendo" or is there another reason as to exactly why?

I know people think it's too expensive, but $50 sounds perfectly reasonable to me, for what it is.

Yeah, mostly. I don't think it's much of a novelty anymore. Of this calibre, I don't know. Seems like people are saying this is something high calibre, but is there actual something saying where they've put such work into this? I'm seeing claims of the graphics being redone completely, but from the screens I've seen, it really doesn't seem something so much bigger of a jump from the good HD ports currently out there.
Is Hero mode like a Master Quest? I was still holding out hope they would have added that . DLC probably.$50-$60 would've been fine with me if they would've included the extra dungeons taken out of the GC version and added Hero mode. Sadly they confirmed both isn't happening.
You know what tho, if they got around to releasing a good GC game in HD like Melee, with great online capabilities, you bet your ass I'd pay $50 bucks for it, fuck Smash 4

Yeah, if this looked EXACTLY the same and had the same effort seen in... well, let's be generous here and say games like MGS HD, Okami, or ZoE2 PS3 post-patch it'd definitely feel WAY overpriced, but with what we're seeing and hearing it sounds... errr, somewhat overpriced instead.Well I don't think anyone knows for sure how much effort went into this but from the amount of commitment and push it's getting from Nintendo in comparison to other developers and how they treat their own HD remakes, it looks to be a serious effort from the team. This is all 'think' and 'seems' but I guess it's one of them things.
And for what it's worth, it does actually seem to have a lot of work in it rather than it just being presented in HD. Control improvements, off TV play, upgraded graphics, Miiverse integration, gameplay enhancements. And hey people have been clamoring for WW in HD

Admittedly Sony policies have discouraged or outright prohibited the sort of stuff Nintendo does with their updates and re-releases. And honestly I kind of question if that's really a good thing, not that many of us would argue against getting a good value but in some cases that higher price is what it'd take to get a game re-released and to actively prohibit that can be more detrimental than beneficial to a consumer. I do imagine if SE could've done with FFX what Nintendo's doing with Wind Waker they absolutely would have. Hell, KH could be argued as a case where the handheld games are sort of justifying releasing KH1 at $40.This should absolutely be $40, maximum. Square is delivering much greater value with the Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X collections. Same kinds of changes (especially in Kingdom Hearts' case), lower price, plus there are at least two games in both collections.
Come the fuck on, Nintendo.
Because you've already played Smash 4 I assume? Or is it just anger that you can't deal with your beloved Melee being buried and forgotten and replaced by a newer entry...
Looking back, OoT 3D and SF64 3D were $40, and DKCR 3D was $35 and that's 3 years old game.
Read up on the game. Redone art assets, textures, shaders, etc on top of the technical improvements. This is far more rework than "every single other HD remake".
pokemon firered/leafgrean
pokemon soulsilver/awfulgold
kirby: nightmare in dreamland
metroid: zero mission
super mario 64 ds

I don't understand this mentality where fans want to get milked for the good of the company. No, "they can get away with it" is not a valid reason.

these were all full price when they came out (nintendo's 'full price' games were $30-35 back then so i don't know about zero mission or kirby, so it could have been on the lower end). if you want to look at some more there's the super mario advance games, the gbc dkc, the gba dkc games, kirby super star ultra had less graphical improvements and still came out at full price.
i guess nintendo's catching flak for this now because people don't pay attention to handheld stuff as much, and they don't usually do console remakes, but it's pretty par for the course for them.
SM64 DS added 30 new stars, 3 new playable characters, boss fights, mini games both to play and to unlock by collecting things. It adds a ton of content at the expense of looking and controlling worse. Doesn't even belong on the list of games that are graphical and quality of life upgrades and that's it. Come on.
They will not allow retail hd collections in the west if they don't have at least 2 games. What are you referring to?
