PES 2014 gameplay footage

PES14 on the pc and Fifa 14 on next-gen consoles?

I'm ok with that.

And I desperately need a good PES. Fifa can be fun, but it's a buggy clusterfuck, most of the time.

Sounds great! I really liked PES2013 pre patch approach yet it was still plagued by its PS2 origin. Anyway, this modified fox engine seems capable of rendering authentic human faces and the gameplay looks fantastic. Shame theres no Next Gen version coming, so PC all the way.

What is the difference pre-patch? I'd be fine deleting the patch if it improved the game. Well might lose my custom characters. Either way I'm curious as to the differences.

I hope the online features are vastly improved

I crave a proper 2 v 2 mode

Never owned a PES game, but I have absolutely no loyalty to FIFA. That said, online clubs is my favorite part of FIFA and I would absolutely love to see PES add that. I'd settle for an online season where two players could play on the same team against the AI.

I just want a lengthy season added. That is what bums me the most about PES2013.
As in league mode? If that's what you mean then it's confirmed to be back.

I think something similar to clubs may be what they're going for, if not at launch then in a patch - in part of the video interview with the producer, the intro slide said "11 v 11" then he said he wasn't ready to talk about that feature yet but to stay tuned. Sounded promising at least.

I played PES 2014 at E3. I'd post my preview but don't want to do a shameless plug.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

Safe to say though that PES 2014 is NOTHING like PES 2013. It really is a whole new game. It's quite outstanding. And ruthless. Like a good sports sim should be.

Did they share any details of how the master league has been changed? Did you get a chance to play current-gen FIFA 14 and if so, was PES comparable/better than it from what you played?

It was way better balanced and the shooting was better. It was more like the demo. I had the feeling the patches streamlined the experience and the keepers became worse.

Hopefully 2014 PES is the one many waited for but I refuse to believe in the return of the king ;)

Do opponents react properly to dribble moves?
How's the controlled shot (R2/RT + shooting button)? Does it feel good to use?

Possibly might be the return. Hopefully a demo soon. Gonna have to get used to the feel again, I still use Square to shoot in FIFA and R1 to sprint. :(

Arnie should have some impressions today as he's played the game. Can't wait. He seems happy with it.

Hands-on: Will PES 2014's dramatic change of tactics pay off?

PES 2014 is arguably the biggest shake up in the franchise's history, but to keep expectations in check let's focus on what it isn't.

It isn't a silver bullet. It isn't a new way to play football games. It isn't on PS4 or Xbox One. It isn't a visual leap that defies belief. It isn't blessed with a new mode or licence that changes everything. It isn't likely to topple FIFA 14.

Not yet.

PES 2014 is the first step to all these goals. It's brave. It's fresh. It's challenging. It's instantly playable, a credible rival for FIFA 14 on PS3 and a promising base for next generation development.

(...)

Overall, we greatly enjoyed what we played and caught ourselves mentally practicing button inputs after we put down the pad - always a good sign. No two games felt the same, new animations were still surprising us 2-3 hours in and goals displayed impressive variety. We'll stop short of declaring it a revelation without spending considerably more time with final code, but this is an assured step to restoring critical - or rather, visual - parity with FIFA.

PES 2014 isn't guaranteed to turn the tide against its key rival, but it is symbolic of a developer that's learnt to listen and adapt. Whether Konami can do so quick enough is a question for another day, but these are promising foundations. All good teams start by focusing on their own errors, not obsessing about the opposition.

The one thing I like about PES is how every goal looks and feels different.

It's something Konami have nailed since the PS2 PES games.

PES4, 5 and 6 were truly excellent in this regard. On the other hand, almost every FIFA goal looks the same.

But everything else about current-gen PES feels so wrong. I loved it on the PS2 but the franchise has been terrible. I keep on hearing from Seabass that we will get 'the real PES' in next iteration of the game. Ugh.

Seabass is gone since 2012.

Apparently we should expect more impressions in 2 weeks when an embargo is lifting.

Visitors at Comic-Con is also getting hands-on time with a demo.

Btw, is there an Option File which adds all the new kits, like Real Madrid's new 13-14 kits for PES 2013?

I thought the new physics in 2014 would be some sort of in-house solution, but it seems that they're using Havok:

Havok, who are a leading provide of 3D interactive game development technology have joined forces with Konami to power the most realistic football game in PES 2014.

They will provide advanced physics, animation and cloth simulation technologies to deliver a true-to-life and graphically advanced football title.

Each players intricate movements are naturally represented according to the individual player’s mass and physique, and each uniform reacts realistically according to the players’ moves and speed thanks to the fantastic technology offered by Havok and the work from the dedicated PES team.

Arnaud Saint-Martin, Asia Regional Director at Havok stated:

Player movements and physics are key components of a lively game, so it’s a true honor for Havok to power these elements in Konami’s incredible PES 2014. The Pro Evolution Soccer team has been dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in a football game, and in these years, Havok has worked with this talented team to integrate Havok’s technology to help take the realism of PES even further. We think football fans will appreciate how Havok technology will blur the line between the sport and simulation, and provide a football experience that looks as real as can be.

Tadahiro Manmoto, Asia Developers Relation Manager at Havok added:

Pro Evolution Soccer needless to say is a leading sports franchise played worldwide, It is really an honor that PES 2014 integrated Havok technologies to bring even more advanced experiences to football fans all over the world. I’m confident players will be excited by more realistic representation of players in the field. We are so proud that Havok technologies and dedicated support helped make it possible.
