I am a proud 'non tech guy' so I cannot comment about how effective such an increase in speed would effect the overall system performance etc, etc....,

But even I'm surprised by this announcement. Why? It's August. Shouldn't all this stuff have been set in stone months ago if they intend to launch the system by Xmas?!

It feels to me that they are cobbling this system together with gaffer tape literally as it's being wheeled out the door. What on earth is going on over at MS?

Sony came out in February with a 1.84 TFLOPS GPU and 8GB GDDR5. I'm not surprised at all that Microsoft didn't go into detail about Xbox One GPU.
Yeah, it was obvious that they were not going to talk about that and were going to focus on things like 5 billion transistors. That wasn't really a good strategy as it only ended up confusing people are raised more questions.

I didnt whine about shit even now. I was replying to the guy who thinks this was good news and that turned into bad news somehow. I'm saying its good news but pretty Inconsequential news. I was REPLYING to someone, not bitching.
Some people are trying to put negative spin into it and you're replying that there shouldn't be a thread about it. And if a console manufacturer makes last minute changes to the hardware why not make a thread about it? No one pretends it's a megaton.

Did you read the quote?

"This is the time where we've gone from the theory of how the hardware works--what do we think the yield is going to look like, what is the thermal envelope, how do things come together--to really having them in our hands. That's the time where you start tweaking the knobs.

Either your theory was right dead on, or you were a little too conservative, or you were a little too aggressive. It's actually been really good news for us, and an example of that is we've tweaked up the clock speed on our GPU from 800mhz to 853mhz."

Is this hardware going to be rock solid in reliability? It seems like they haven't even finalized the thing yet and we have 3 months.

God, please don't bring this back. Steam has offline mode. XBO originally did not. Steam lets a military member play their games through a 6 month deployment offline. XBO originally did not. The end.

Well XB1 DRM was restrictive as hell but others had steam style DRM and got torn apart.
I love me some valve games but I am conflicted with steam since I hate me some DRM.

Yeah if this was another product you'd stay far away from it as the company doesn't seem to have a plan or clear vision, only in video games would a company get away with it.

Hm, Microsoft really changes a lot of its policies and stuff.
Do you think that all this flipfloping will have a negative impact on the launch and the time after?

I mean, they always say everything need time and it need to be well thought out to work and they're just changing their shit in no time.
I guess we will see some problems because of those changes.

It's almost nothing. For comparison, my 660TI is overclocked up to 1300mhz from I think standard 1050/1100mhz. The difference is tiny, like 5frames at best. 53mhz are barely noticable and if that's something they need to announce, they probably are very desperate.

Eh... Yes, if you are already at 1050 MHz, then it's not that more. If you are at 800MHz it's more than the more of your GPU.

53MHz over what? they never announced how much it was in the first place.

we know the detailed info because of insiders, same insiders who told us there was going to be a downclock.

again, 53MHz over what? 800MHz? 750? 700?

My first thought in this announcement was if you're going to raise the clock speed, doesn't that make the hardware more unstable? Doesn't microsoft want to distance themselves away from RROD debacles?

I don't understand what you just said here. The main problem a lot of people had was the online requirement. I personally saw it as specifically anti-military. I didnt give a shit about the used games thing.

GameInformer worded it poorly imho. Marc Whitten drops the upclock in the MajorNelson podcast. You can call that an announcement but from the title of the article one would expect a press release or something.

Hmm, ok. I guess it's interesting to hear what else might be in this podcast.

I don't think it's hard to read the OP post

Didnt he say specifically that they bumped it from 800mhz to 853mhz? Seems pretty clear.

Wasnt there a rumor a while back that there was a downclock ? And now a boost ?
Is there a family plan or not ?
Do i need Kinect or not.
MS wins true the art of mass confusion.

If true, then it can be a balancing thing.
To more fine-tune everything.

This is really nothing new.. Nintendo did it with Gamecube, Sony with PS3 and of course, MS with OG XBox..

But I dont think that MS would make an announcement for this, that sounds odd considering that they have not gone out with specifics of the tech...

what we know is from the leak, nothing is official from MS besides the 8 Core CPU, 8GB Ram and 500GB HDD..

Can someone who knows explain how they arrived at such an odd number?? I mean a 53 ghz increase sounds like they were creeping the thing up bit by bit till it broke, then moved down 1ghz.

Does this mean the thing was not in production yet until these changes? I guess they can patch it in since it requires an internet connection to make it work.(there will be many uninformed consumers who have a crappy christmas morning due to this...cause people are dumb)

Part of me thinks they are just trying to pull positive PR out of their asses as well.

So... Console releases in 3 months and change and they're still tweaking this thing? This seems a little weird getting so close to launch.

Are they gonna rush it like they did with the X360 and have an RRoD 2.0 on their hands?

clock speeds can be adjusted with firmware updates. they can still be making hardware in the mean time.

Fuck kinect soooooo hard until it's rrod.
Weak 'next gen' hardware because that shit is mandatory.

Watched Forza 5......... I'm already playing a better looking game in beta stage called PCars... Once physics are are fine tuned and graphics gets a little more polished there goes my only reason to purchase one at launch... No night or weather are you fucking kidding me? Next gen!

We didn't specifically target the highest specifications. That being said, UPGRAAAAAAADE!

Or just maybe they never announced anything because that part of the hardware was still being tweaked and optimized. The closer you finalize to launch, the better you will understand what the machines can do and where the future of gaming tech will go.
