Third party developers surely pressed Microsoft to do this upgrade. Cool, third party games are going to receive a graphical boost from this. Everybody wins!

I notice in that insider thread, CBOaT only talked about YIELDS and not clockspeeds, which was what other insiders like Thuway and BLR were speculating on....

What is worrisome for me is the fact the hardware is changing this late in the process. It only adds to the narritive that yields may indeed be an issue for them....you need TIME to work those kind of issues out in order to have a stable launch...

How in the hell, after 8 years can Microsoft be tweaking stuff at the last second like this.....I would think all this would have been sorted out AGES ago.....last year even :/

So the Xbox One is going to be even more powerful and have more available ram than the ps4.

Not looking good for sony at all.

Actually, both machines are one step closer to specs parity.

In the end, third party developers will see less constraints, and we all benefit from this.

No, you have to change it. It's 1.32 now.

So...
PS4 is 39% more capable
XB1 is 28% less capable

Well, you shouldn't use 1.8 and 1.32 for the comparison as those are rounded off numbers which introduces an error. Never round off until the end!

I got my numbers from (18/12)*(800/853) and (12/18)*(853/800)

That is, ([PS4 CU]/[XBO CU])*([PS4 clock]/[XBO clock]) and ([XBO CU]/[PS4 CU])*([XBO clock]/[PS4 clock])

Are they just making this up as go along geez would not r shocked when you open the box you have to assemble to console yourself Ikea style

First tragedy, then farce.

The heat profile of the console when fully assembled allowed it. I'm assuming they only had a near final build in the last few months and wanted to play with it a bit before commiting to increasing the clock speed.

Again, Sony upclocked the OG PSP with a firmware upgrade after launch and that was much more substantial than this.

Console parity (or the gap between them closing) benefits gamers as well as developers. Multiplatform games wil look similar on each platform and exclusives will shine in both.

Stop being silly guys.

I've seen more than one post like this. A GPU upclock has NOTHING TO DO WITH A PHYSICAL HARDWARE CHANGE. So many people here making statements without even understanding this stuff.

I can push my GPU in my PC up and down in clockspeed at any time. Microsoft and Sony could both do this at will if they wanted to, ON THE FINISHED HARDWARE. It's just a matter of safe heat levels.

Shhh... Don't point out mistakes from Microsoft's part. All our criticisms are supposed to be irrational.

You don't understand how it works either apparently. Hardware doesn't change with clock speed changes.

The amount of sheer ignorance here is astounding....but not surprising.

i cannot recall a company that had to change its product and stance so many times before it even hits shelves.. Microsoft is the Mitt Romney of gaming

I wonder how the ratio is between complaining about this being interpreted as bad news and actual posters that claim that is bad news.

Yep, console war is over.

PS4 is basically shovelware at this point.

Time to move on.

I did 1.84 and 1.32 but it's 1.31.

1.3 to 1.8 is 38%
1.31 to 1.84 is 40%

I am not familiar with the process, as you possibly aren't either, but why couldn't they have been testing things out and found that they can upgrade without hurting anything?

I just hope they're not pushing the machine beyond it's limits in some misguided attempt to "match" the PS4's specs.

Given their track record with hardware reliability, I think it's a valid concern.

not sure how anyone can spin this into a bad thing. upgrade is better than no upgrade.

Nobody is spinning this into a bad thing. People are spinning this into a "not good enough" thing. People want at least spec parity for $400 and the only thing the $100 price difference getting you is the camera. I don't see that happening though.

Even with X1 gets any sort of positive news you always make it a negative one.

Negative? I'm stating a fact, they never released their spec, so how is this an upgrade?

All this is, is an announcement of their clock speed for the first time. They call it an "upgrade" because that sounds better in PR.
