It's definitely in large part due to PCs having better connections than XBOX and especially PSN.If think is more of the case that a lot more people use Ethernet on their PC compared to consoles.

This is a joke, right? There are some fighting game people near me, but they live quite a few miles away, I'm not gonna do that just because there's no online, this is not 1993.
You misinterpreted what I meant. GGPO is really good but it's not the code that only matters. His exaggerated picky response was just unnecessary.
Also there is no GGPO support.
To practice, play locally with other players, the convenience in having the extra characters available, etc. Sure people with a lack of community might have to end up using online to play but being overtly dependent isn't healthy and doesn't benefit anything.

Yeah, you're completely missing the point... Some people don't have the local community (shock and horror, but it's true!) and so online play is their "arcade." If they can't play that online, why would they buy it over getting '98/'02 UM's working on GGPO?
.
May be because console matching player by region? While PC version just match you with whoever the server can find. Is SF4 netcode really bad also?
SSF4AE feels amazing on PC.
The fact that netcode is complete ass in 2013 is downright shocking. I know the genre isn't built for online unless they slow the complete game down but GGPO is there to license and there is no excuse to not go that route if they can't do the netcode themselves.
I can't hold all these fighting games coming to PC.
You're missing his point. He's talking about '13. '02/'98 being on GGPO has no part in this discussion.

Where can I get this?

Not UM versions unfortunately but vanilla '98 and '2002 but they are definitely playable.
With high school friends and in arcades. Thats not the norm for me and of many here.
Pricing estimates?
I just thought it was funny that when it came to suggestion of playing local multiplayer, everyone jumped the gun and that meant entering tournaments with competitive players.
But I guess that shows how closed the genre is. We aren't talking about playing Wii Sports. Though I don't think anyone here is of serious talent, that they wouldn't find satisfaction playing against their roommate or family.

Y u no read OP?1111!
Back in 1992 - 1999 when arcades in the area I was growing up in was lively I used to play locally, but now I'm 2 months away from 29 and I a military career and a wife. I can't just go and locate bros to play with.
If the net code for this game sucks then it pretty much kills it for me because I sure as hell don't play fighting games for their story and single player modes.
So for some people to be iffy on purchasing this day one because of the netcode, I FULLY understand where you're coming from.

I'd go with $30.
It's $30 on both the XBL Marketplace and PSN. I doubt that it'd be half-priced on Steam.I really hope not. They are already going to be competing with Skull Girls and MK.
Having a higher price point than Skull Girls and, potentially, worse net code is not a good marketing position to be in.
It makes me wonder if we'll be getting extra characters this time around, since the port is nearly two years after the console version.
I miss Duck King...
If the worst case scenario comes up, I wouldn't be surprised for a user-made Caster code equivalent would be developed in the future. Being subtitled Steam Edition, then there is hope for the initial impact for online play to be possibly good. If you generally want to play KOF, GGPO client will work for now.
I been secretly hoping that the reason it took them so long to release the game is because they are working hard at the netcode. I mean KOF13 got hacked and released in PC many years ago, it shouldn't take them this long just to get it approve and release on steam.

Fair point.
They are going to get killed at that price. With the fighting game competition on the platform right now and the insane amount of games coming in August.
They will be in trouble to say the least.

It has name recognition and a lot more characters. You'll probably have to spend $30 or more to get as many characters as in 13.I really hope not. They are already going to be competing with Skull Girls and MK.

How does KoF 13 compare to Garou?
You think all the art will still be 720p?

Are you saying I can buy more characters in Skull Girls?
