Thank you for sharing your story,
Good job man !

Wii Fit may be stupid to most gamers, it's still a fun way to shake your booty.

Yes sir,

I changed my diet considerably.

I used to eat around 6000+ calories a day, I eat about 2000 now.

I started slowly, went from 6000 to 5000, etc.

First congrats!

I however can not even fathom how you succeeded to eat 6000+ calories a day....

I would say this played even a more important part to the loss of weight than the wiifit ......

You are now eating a third of the calories compared to before.

Have pictures? Write a letter to Nintendo with the evidence and you might be their spokesperson for Wii Fit U.

One of the things I've noticed over the years, helping people to gain or lose weight, is getting to where you want to be always hinges on both diet and exercise.

Its very rare to see people succeed with just one or the other. You need to have both a good diet and exercise in order to make changes.

I think diet is 90% of it.

Just a tip for anyone trying to lose weight, Diets are only a small part of the equation. All dieting is really supposed to do is to stop you building up body fat while you exercise to get rid of what you have, it's not the main solution. Make sure you have an exercise routine and stick to it (and if you are male make sure to include weights, not just cardio). If all you do is diet you are going to feel like you are starving most of the time and be miserable, if you are exercising you can eat what you need and not feel hungry but still loose weight and get fit.

I think diet is 90% of it.

No, it's more like exercise 70%, Diet 30%. As long as you eat sensibly you don't even really need to diet.

This is a remarkable feat, OP. I congratulate you and I am envious of how good you must feel now as opposed to how you felt beforehand. After my metabolism changed, I have gained a lot of weight and can rarely find the time to hit the gym. I am no fit-GAF representative at the moment.

I still think Wii Fit is a piece of crap though.

Haha Fatty!

Just kidding. Great work! Im glad Wii Fit worked for you.

Wii Fit U is coming out soon, and the main innovation is a gadget called the fit meter which tracks your running and gives you stats.

IGN said:
The Fit Meter includes a pedometer, of course. It'll track how many steps you take when you go for a walk, or a jog, or an all-out run.

But now it's also got an altimeter inside. So if your morning strolls take you up and down severe inclines, you'll get more credit and recognition for the extra effort it takes you to climb and descend them than you would if you'd logged the same number of steps walking across perfectly level ground.

Then there's an atmospheric pressure sensor in there too. That means that the data the Fit Meter collects will take into account your position relative to sea level, as it's going to be tougher for someone to hike their way through, say, a Colorado mountain pass where the air is thinner than down on the California coastline.

Last of all, Mr. Iwata has said that the Fit Meter can combine all its collected data and create a composite that estimates your overall level of activity – even predicting what type of exercise you're doing while wearing it. All of that information is then passed back into the Wii Fit U game by pointing the Fit Meter toward the new Wii U GamePad's infrared sensor when you get home from your jog, or the gym, or wherever you've been out burning calories – and the game will then instantly tell you how many calories you've just burned, generating a detailed visual representation of your activity.

True, but exercise often makes you more aware of what you're putting in your body. It takes motivation to stick with any regimen, and at some point you recognize that, in consuming that much, you're just working against yourself.

Here is a small thing I made about a few months in (It's a bit different then my workout routine, but that was my initial goal during my routines), I had to do a bit less because it was quite hard on me..

Work out was my WII
Run was extra cardio I did.

I also wrote down some hints and pointers, and the times I eat lol.

I put that on the wall right beside my PC, knowing I have to stare at it everytime I got up.

I have stretch marks all over the front of my body, no excessive skin. But I will prob need to lazer surgery the marks later in life, which really is not that big a deal, and it's just a couple paychecks worth.

Right now I am focusing on losing about 30 pounds more, then I am done.

Right now, no excessive skin, just stretch marks.

Amazing, congrats. This is what weight loss should be, fun and tied closely to one's hobby (gaming).

I'm considering Wii Fit U myself, and I'm currently counting steps with 3DS. Though I do wish 3DS would award coins for longer walks, it only gives you them for the first 1000 steps. Maybe they should consider a fitness related mini-game for 3DS where one would proceed with steps or so?

Now if only I can play League or FFXIV and lose weight while I play, that would be magical rofl

Well done OP, I used to use the EA Sports Active on the PS3 for a while but it wasn't what I would call 'fun' I'm looking forward to Wii Fit U and will certainly be picking it up in the hope that it will me exercise fun. I'm not massively overweight but could do with losing maybe 20lb having already lost 25.

No, it's more like exercise 70%, Diet 30%. As long as you eat sensibly you don't even really need to diet.

This isn't true. Exercise plays a small role in weight loss whereas diet is essential. If you change nothing but consume fewer calories than your basal metabolic rate, you are guranteed to lose weight. It's just physics. The number of calories lost in exercise are not large enough for it to make a considerable dent, in fact it might be counterproductive. Research has shown that too much excercise can lead to fatigue and to snacking. People also overestimate how many calories they burn exercising. A sandwich will wipe out many an exercise session (perspective: for about each pound of muscle you gain lifting weights, you will burn 30 to 50 calories per day).

There are very good reasons to be active but, if weight loss is your goal, you must consume fewer calories than your body requires to function each day. You lose wieght by making up the difference.

This has been known for many years now but there have been two studies recently that have reaffirmed these conclusions. You can read about them here.

Don't get me wrong, research shows many good reasons to exercise (and by excercise I mean mostly HIIT and strength training). And that research shows excercise does help control your weight. But to lose wieght you must eat less. Fix the diet then worry about exercise.

BTW, strength training isn't just for men. Women will also benefit.

Hear, hear. Not to mention a very simple thing regarding exercise: the less you weight, the easier and less painful it becomes. Hence why I wuld suggest to try dieting first, and once you start loosing weight, start exercising then.

People who start and abbandon dieting several times is usually because they try to do many things at once. No need to stop smoking, start dieting, start training in the very same day. If you want to focus into one single, big thing in order to improve your health, do it in diet. Once you loose the weight, everything else (anxiety, exercise, etc) will become far easier, at least that was my personal experience.

Completely disagree. Diet plays the biggest role by a landslide. You can exercise two hours a day every single day, but if you are still eating crappy food and drinking sugary soda you won't loose a thing, and may even continue to gain weight. I myself lost twenty pounds in three months last year by simply cutting out soda and a large amount of carbs. I didn't exercise at all until after I had already lost the weight due to a packed schedule. The larger you are, the more calories you need in order to maintain your current weight. If you cut down on your calorie intake (specifically the sugars and complex carbs) you will loose weight regardless of exercise. If you are finding that you are hungry all the time, then you are not eating properly. When losing weight you should be eating small meals all throughout the day, and you can really eat quite a bit of food, but the types of food are what matters the most. If you ate similar portions compared to the amount that you are now, but cut out sugars and complex carbs, you would be shocked at the difference after even just a month. A common misconception is that fat is bad, and must be avoided at all costs, and that is what leads to a lot of these BS diets that just frustrate people. Fat is your body's best source of energy, and is actually quite good for you, however, you want to avoid saturated fats or anything processed. Sugar on the other hand is poison to your body and tricks your body into storing it as fat. In other words, sugar actually promotes weight gain at a chemical level.

Of course you should exercise as well, as it strengthens your body. Toning your body while you loose weight is important for your body's transition, but when it comes to actual weight loss it is nowhere near as important as diet. A rigorous hour long exercise session would be hard pressed to burn off a 20oz soda.

Just thought i would share this story with you guys. (This is not about sympathy, or anything, good or bad, I just wanted to share)

I know this is a thread which I will probably get laughed at, or called names. But I was over 336 pounds, I had huge medical problems with acid reflux, and heart burn.

I tried multiple diets and none seem to work.

I went to my friends house one day and noticed she was using a wii-fit, I laughed it off saying it's dumb of course, but she told me to give a try (i assumed i would snap the thing in half).

Crazy part is?, It maybe saved my life. I lost a total of roughly 90/100ish pounds using it, mostly from the addicting mini games it had.

For people who are having trouble getting the motivation to lose weight, I understand the pain.

half the battle is literally just the mental part, being able to tell yourself it's time, Wii fit did this for me, maybe something else will be your spring board.

If you want any advice from a guy who got through the hurdle, all I can say is don't rush, go at it 1 week at a time, the first time you weight in, you will have all the motivation right there.

i weight about 240ish now, and most of my medical problems are behind me, except a screwed up back from gaming to much. lol

I really hope the WII-U comes out with something similar, because it was a fantastic product, and deserves a little bit of praise.

Routine for those asking (roughly).

1 month - 15 min sessions
3 months - 20 min sessions
6 months - 30 min sessions
1 year - 40 min sessions.

4 days a week.

Started: 6000 calories
Lost about 500/1000 calories every few months, at about 2000 calories now.

What did I eat?: Nothing crazy, no fast food, but I still went to subway weekly, and sushi place.

It's about eating 5 meals a day instead of 3 huge meals.

* BY REQUEST *

This is a bit embarrassing, but Might as well show you my "motivation" video I made.

Figured it's better then a picture.

You can do it man, just gotta push through.

Sometimes all a person needs is a little motivation.

Funny thing is, half the time it's girl related lol
This
Motivation is a huge game changer. I once loss many weight in high school because of a girl but after I went to.college, I didn't manage to find the replacement and here.I am, fat stocking up under my belly again. I found it that this could be vicious cycle.

Anyway, congrats! I'm always try to do the same thing but the lack of motivation becomes the main problem for me.

Interesting story, brother. Congrats on the weight loss.
If I may comment, nutrition and calories intake regulating is more important than exercice. That's not to say that working out isn't important, far from it, but it seems to me that converting your diet into a healthy one is the crucial issue.
