I enjoyed Diablo 3, made money on the AH, basically got the collector's edition for free that way.

I hope they give us controller support.

As long as this game is always online it is still a steaming pile of shit, why am I getting lag in my single player experience. Fuck you blizzard.

I'm down. I just hope it runs better on my PC than the original game. Have to run it off of a flash drive for some reason, installed on my PC is a stuttery mess. I don't even have a max character yet, my highest is a level 55 Wizard.

Another thing Blizzard has acknowledged is the poor quality of the current loot system. They've said they're going to overhaul it completely, which is a great start to fixing the game.
Unfortunately they've also stated that this won't be released until next year. And, players most likely won't be getting anything to tide them over, because the developers aren't currently working on a major content patch, meaning that the most likely thing that will happen is that there will be no major patch between now and whatever time next year that the item overhaul patch hits. For perspective, the current patch was released in early May. So in all likelihood it'll be at least seven months before players see any major patches to help the game.

Booooo! I just installed the game thinking the item patch was in!
Oh well, sounds like I can actually level up my Barb to 60 now.

Finally. :D

Here's hoping they fix what needs to be and I can get back to playing. Excited to see what they've got planned!

im optimistic that the expansion will make D3 awesome. I still like the game, but it gets boring doing the acts stuff over and over. I would like to see more randomly generated areas that actually feel unique, to give a sense of exploring the unknown, which the game atm doesnt do for me.

Only if the expansion is like the first Act, and has better loot and customization. Otherwise, nope not hyped.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Off topic, but I dunno where to post this... Bought these, planning on playing D2:LoD today for the first time in two years (imagine that, huh?). Anyone with me? PM me.

D3 was such a fucking letdown. I wanted to be hooked on it, I wanted to relive those D2 days, but nope. Only way I'll go back is if they change the game enough to make it more like D2. What are the odds of that happening on this expac? What about at all?

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
I was megadisappoint by D3, but I'm still pretty interested to see the (potential) official reveal at gamescom next week. Blizzard has recentely seemed at least receptive to a lot of the good ideas and changes people have been pulling for, so it is possible that an initial feature list will have some very welcome news for those of us who were left underwhelmed by D3.

Gotten a couple of PMs... anyone else?

It wouldn't make sense to hold back the expansion unless there were severe technical issues that needed to be fixed.

The new content in the expansion will be exclusive, but a lot of stuff like class balance and other changes will still be implemented into Diablo 3 vanilla.

The PVP they had in mind was not giving them satisfaction, so they took it back to the drawing board. It's also a feature that would be hard to completely redesign after the fact. Either way your argument is only valid if the PVP system will be exclusive to the expansion, which I doubt it will (perhaps some aspects of it will be exclusive to the expansion).

Class balance is always an issue in any RPG (all classes eventually got access to Teleport in Diablo 2 etc.). Blizzard did not want to mess too much with people's classes for Diablo 3 as they have done with other games, but some classes/build combinations will see serious changes. And they will also apply to Diablo 3 vanilla.

The loot is currently not incredible. It takes time to refine. But the current game is absolutely enjoyable to play. And still, loot changes will also come to Diablo 3 vanilla.

Your answer to that seems "Wait for the expansion, they'll fix it all by then, and you don't have to pay for the expansion for the fixes" - and my reply to that is "Why should I be satisfied with that? Why can't the vanilla game stand on its own?"

Having fixes come down by the time an expansion is out doesn't really allow vanilla players to enjoy them in vanilla (especially PvP) because by that point the population has moved on to the expansion. Meanwhile for 2 (?) years vanilla players had to deal with no pvp, poor class balance, and poor loot.

I hit max lvl on every character in D3. My combined playtime is a hundred-ish hours. I really enjoyed my time with the game but had no desire to paragon up.

I think the new expansion will be great.

Just show me that CE Blizzard. I'm thinking it willbe like the D3 boxing, only black vs the white. I'll be there Day 1!

Did anyone like Diablo 3 - except Yoshichan?
I put a good 150+ hours into it and then got bored of it.

$60 for 150+ hours + $200+ made on the RMAH? Can't complain.

Really? Do you really want D2? When the last time you played it? Do you remember D2?

Am i the only one who remember how shitty the items were in D2? Excluding OP duped items, the core fucking items in the game. There were like 8 items. Everyone used the same thing minus charms/weapon. The level design was extremely weak, PVP was highly unbalanced. You spend day and night farming SOJ's.

D2 isn't the master piece everyone claims it to be. It's an extremely flawed game that was completely ruined 2 years in from hacked items.

Well I'm still playing D3 everyday and been doing so since launch. Got around 1500 gameplay hours into the game so I'm excited to see an expansion reveal next week, hopefully it will be more than just a cinematic sequence.

But I'm a bit disappointed that they're waiting to implement all the changes they've been talking about in an expansion instead of in free patches because nothing has been happening in the game for a good while now. It's just another long wait for us who actually still play the game to get a ton of content instead of getting the itemization and class balance changes they've promised a long time ago, which would make the wait much more easier. Right now the chances of finding good loot is so horrible bad that I'm not even playing softcore much anymore other than for crafting materials and paragon levels, at least on hardcore you're happy when you find a set item cause it's not guaranteed to be trash like on softcore. Like all the new players will quit within a month after the expansion anyway, but well, money is king.

D3 was complete trash, no sale.

I'll go back to playing D2: LOD.

I don't see how they messed up so much. They should look at D2 and copy what made that game great and improve on it. It feels like they took the base from D2 and then did their own thing. :(

Wonder if they will implement what they've done on consoles into Diablo with the expansion (minus couch co op?) Also curious as to how they will handle releasing the expansion on consoles, day and date or much later depending on sales. Could impact whether I bother double dipping on PS3 Diablo.

Why would I flame you? Anyway rather than bore you with a ponderous reply ('less is more!), please check out this video because this guy says it best ('show don't tell!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G4lX-MKrgI

I wasn't talking about you in particular Lord Panda, but thanks for not doing it anyway :)

If I understand the very insightful video you posted correctly, the main point of criticism against Diablo 3's writing is primarily on how it is used to tell the story and not so much about the style of the sentences used in game. In other words, you critisize how this game forces a story down the player's throat in such a way that it breaks his/her immersion in the game world by forcefully injecting a passive / static element in an otherwise active / dynamic experience.

If this is correct, then I wholeheartedly agree that that could have been greatly improved by opting for a more Dark Souls / Diablo 1 / Bioshock spatial storytelling approach in which the story is not told to you but is shown via the world you explore yourself (i.e. letting the player collect the hints and breadcrumbs and piece together the history of the world and what his/her role in this world is). A game such as Kingdoms of Amalur did the exact same thing wrong by. breaking up the player's trek through and immersion in the game world with endless dialogues about lore and details, and that game als suffered greatly from it. Sometimes I think that game writers forget that for lore and story details to become interesting, the player first has to feel invested in the game world and gameplay.

Why would a player care to hear up front by an NPC that he/she is the chosen one that needs to locate a macguffin artifcact to end the war between two races / countries, if he/she had no chance yet to discover in which world he/she is residing through his/her own actions? It's like being an archeologists / explorer versus listening to a lecture by an archeologist / explorer; the former is much more exciting than the latter, but the latter can become more exciting when the former is performed first.

D3 was a really awful game in most regards, but I got plenty of play out of it trying the different classes and whatnot. I still can't believe they haven't fixed the itemization after all this time. Three things that HAVE to be addressed: itemization, end game, and environment randomization

Day 1 for sure. I had lots of fun with D3. As much as D2? Of course not, but that was high school.

Great way to put it. I still sunk tons of hours into it and it's a great game in its own right, but I doubt anything will ever topple the magical combination of Diablo 2 and high school.

Will most assuredly play despite some misgivings I've had with D3. Bring on the hype train!

Probably. If it's one new Act, that would be consistent with the main game too.
I really hope they don't plan on a single act and the same price as HOTS. HOTS delivered tons of new content for that 40 bucks.

I bought D3 last November and put in over 100 hours. There are some choices that I can't believe they made, but overall I've had a lot of fun with the game, and I think many of the changes were good. The only reason I stopped was because I wanted to start completing other games. Looking forward to jumping back in with the expansion.

Weird. I had a dream of diablo 3 last night.

I never played D2 so D3 wasn't a sinful gane to me. I enjoyed it though still saw a bunch of flaws. I hope they can make it better.

Considering the radical changes that D2 underwent in it's first and only exspansion, and considering how much better in every category it made the game, people probably shouldn't be so quick to write this off.

D2 wasn't the amazing game people remember when it came out, what most people remember is what it was post LoD and post patches after LoD. D2 was kind of just ok during its launch and didn't become the greatest loot game to this day until LoD and after. D3 is ok right now, so wait and see what they do in this exspansion or you may end up robbing yourself of something potentially special.

D2 was best in the original version when Corpse Explosion scaled with enemy beef-ups and could do like 180% of the monster's original health in damage for a screen-and-a-half radius.

If they fix itemization, remove the AH, bring back player made games, and fix shitty b.net 2.0, then I'll be back. That's the only way though.

Loved Diablo 3 apart from the story, so I'm looking forward to this.

The trick to really enjoying Diablo 3 is to not be a hardcore Diablo player, as is my case :p .
I just like to collect stuff and destroy shit, and Diablo 3 did that very well. It's the best combat feeling of any ARPG I've played, specially as the barbarian, you really feel those hits.
