RUMOR: Playstation 4 to launch October 21st

According to GameReactor, the Xbox One will launch not until beginning of 2014, possibly March. It's unknown if the 2014 release is just for Europe or all other territories as well.

Can someone make a thread out of this, please?

def cant be true for North America or that would be the end of the xbox one. Ps4 would be in the hands of 5-10 million people before a single xbox was sold. Not to mention a ton of people canceling their xbone pre-orders to get their hands on a new console.

The GR article could be true since the editor who wrote did not specify whether it was delayed worldwide, Europe, Scandinavia or even just Denmark.

Its possible that they are delaying it in Scandinavia and not say Germany, UK, France and the US. So technically its not delayed..for some of you

We will see, i assume they will announce the date soon

I'll buy that so MAYBE that's true, but if the NA release was delayed that would be bad.

If Sony do launch on the 21st with only 3 games (all first party) it would certainly help them really push Killzone.

I was thinking the same thing. For Killzone to really gain traction, the PS4 and Killzone really should be released before BF4 comes out. BF4 is going to (proportionately) sell a lot of copies on the PS4.

I say that thinking of all the individuals coming from the 360 who would probably want to play the known (BF4) as opposed the unknown (Killzone).

I have my pre-order at Amazon but wish I could put money on it every month because paying the lump sum in one day late OCT might not work for me

anyway to put money into your amazon?
You can purchase gift cards and apply them to your order. It is what I have done for the PS4 and plan to start doing for the One.

Just realize if for whatever reason your preorder goes through, you will only have that money on Amazon. I purchase enough there for it not to be an issue regardless, and it should wind up being fine, but that is how it will work.

In regards to this rumor, would be nice if true. You would think regardless of when it is, we should get an announcement officially sometime soon.

Yeah, I've been hoping this was their motive for awhile now.

Launch window is a unique time for a title to shine, but this is the first time so many big games in a genre will all be hitting near launch. The game needs at least a week headstart to net some impulse buys before BF/CoD drop.

Why would anyone do that? Why not keep the money on your own account to accrue some interest on it?? I keep hearing that in US most live week-to-week with next to no savings, huge debt for houses, cars, hi-fi, etc. If I was in a situation where I have to save money on Amazon gift cards to warrant a purchase of PS4, I'd really re-evaluate my priorities in life...

The October date would be incredibly surprising. For one thing, ACIV is a launch title and Watch Dogs is an official launch bundle - I can't see Ubisoft making its biggest release of the year a PS4 exclusive for a month.

There are no "official" bundles for the PS4 at this point, just bundles that retailers are putting together themselves.

They both already have Playstation exclusive content so doesn't seem unbelievable, also for ACIV the release date is 29th and the rumor states the week starts 21st october so it could only be a few days early.

Also Watchdogs isn't an official bundle. It's a soft bundle made by retailers.

That's...not the way to look at it. If both consoles launched the same day and they withheld them from the Xbone for a month, then your sentence would make sense. They're simply there as launch titles for both consoles. Whatever launch dates both manufacturers choose is up to them. They're not picking sides or losing on money. People who want an Xbox One and want WD or AC4 will pick them up whenever the console's available.

They're not losing any sales.

First off, that is a pretty stereotypical view of things. Some people are doing just fine, myself included. And who said it has anything to do with "saving up for the console?" You jumped to that conclusion, which makes sense considering your view that all Americans are on the verge of financial collapse.

It has nothing to do with the fact I am saving up to purchase it and everything to do with the fact I just prefer to have it paid for in full.

I do not want to have close to $1000 being put on my credit card (I am picking up both consoles) around the holiday season when I will be spending money on other things like gifts, etc. already since it is the holiday season, as then perhaps I will have a larger credit card bill that may take a month or two to pay off, and I am then paying interest on that debt when there is zero reason to do so since I can afford the consoles outright right now. So I prefer to pay for it now and get it out of the way as that is actually the smartest move financially to do. It is actually so I continue to have no debt whatsoever, even if we are only talking a few thousand dollars, I prefer to have zero if at all possible. Has nothing at all to do with saving up.

i thought i saw list and it was sony first. could be wrong.

Microsoft's press conference is earlier in the day, Sony's is at 7pm, and then MS has a community event after Sony.

At least that's how I've read the breakdown.

MS not streaming their show regardless.

From Major Nelson: "Microsoft won't live stream their GamesCom 2013 media briefing next week as per the details revealed by Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer in a recent Major Nelson podcast."

Ok, thanks for taking time to explain this.
Hope you don't feel offended by my generalization :)

They are holding the release date back for as long as possible to give the least possible reaction time to MS.
Release date is being announced next week. It was held because Japan was still being confirmed and they couldn't announce it confidently as early as June. Not to mention various other issues. It has little to do with MS. The release is very soon so MS wouldn't really be able to react regardless, but no specific date could be announced in confidence either a couple months ago.

DirtyLarry, I actually really like your idea. I have both prepaid on Amazon, do you have to mess with any 'settings' on the preorders or does Amazon just default to pulling funds on your account at shipping time (which would be the best way)? I am probably just being lazy and could go log in to check, but I figured if you were still reading the thread I might as well ask. I've never prepaid any large items from them, just random books or games, etc. Thanks!

"The release is very soon" iirc isn't Venerdus pretty much on the money when it comes to Sony? Interesting, hyped for next week.

Is Japan confirmed for 2013?

I've done the same exact thing as It makes the most sense for me. I can easily drop the 450 (after taxes) for the console on launch day but i'd never hear the end of it from a particular person. Going the amazon giftcard route, I can easily fit it into my entertainment budget. For example, I have a 200 dollar monthly entertainment budget. I can spend the money on movies, cinema, theater, games, whatever. I use a little of the budget each month to pay off the console without having to give up movies or any other luxuries.
Also paying it off gradually like this ensures no interest on a credit card

In regards to the Xbox Delay, Maybe for Japan, but I can't see that being the case for any other region

He has returned with gifts.

Someone post hype gifs now.

So...I'm guessing October, no way September would ever happen.

Release date is very soon = what I read as October, which is only 2 months away.

Good, good.

As much as it was a disaster I really loved the "and it's available next week" launch of the Sega Saturn. I think Sony could build sufficient hype with as little as a month.

It's hard to believe that just the other day the PS4 was just a rumored thing called Orbis. Now it's ready for prime time and Sony has accomplished what every gaming fan wanted out of a system. Good times to be around.

What about games? Any new games they will announce?
