Yea i am curious how they handle the game library. Right now i am assuming you scroll but we will see.

Scroll?

Is that PS Home all the way to the right?

So we still will have a store that we need to launch to purchase content? It better not be like the awful PS3 store. That thing takes forever to load and once it loads it stutters like crazy when you navigate through the store menu.

No more leaks please. Can't wait to see the UI in full. And as for ads I don't mind if Sony or f2p games does little of it to get dedicated servers

Maybe it's unfair, but the PS3's ads in the top corner are about the largest extent I could deal with ads. If you want to animate the store icon with some game ads, or populate the store page with game ads, then that makes perfect sense, but I CANNOT tolerate a McDonalds ad running on a loop in the corner of my screen. I really hope Sony is judicious about the use of ads because the 360 has been awful about it.

I don't think that's a real screenshot of the UI.

Pretty sure it's a mockup.

I just can't wait to download all kinds of sexy themes! I hope that's still possible, in addition to resizing those tiles.

They showed it at Develope behind closed doors developers session.

Pics?

yea, the basics look good there, nice to see it running smooth, it was incredibly fast when moving around the menu and when going through error screens and back to the menu.

Think those scrolling adverts are only on the Jap and US accounts as I haven't seen then on my UK and New Zealand profiles.

I'm curious to know since I don't have a Bravia, but minus the hokey flipping animation, what's bad about it?
What bothers me about it is all the wasted space on those huge tiles. If the PS4 uses a similar layout for it's library I can easily see it eventually being annoying scrolling through those tiles to access an old game in a large library. I just want an option for a grid view or at the very least a customizable folder layout to minimize needless scrolling. It's a small petty issue I know, but after 7 years with a PS3 and its annoying vertical scrolling in its different libraries I'll be very disappointed if the PS4 has a similar thing.

I like the simplicity, but it's a bit too microsofty for me. Maybe they're trying to make new gen converts feel right at home?

As long as there's some effort put into organizing games, I'll be happy.

I'm still happy that Sony never put any DRM on the dynamic themes, since most of the ones on the store have been crap one way or another. There's some great user-made ones out there, and I'm occasionally tempted to make a thread showcasing them
if I was a little more confident it wouldn't breach gaf TOS
. I'd be ecstatic if Sony gave us even basic tools for dynamic themes on the PS4 so people wouldn't have to hack the official ones.

I like it. Not very stylish about it but it looks functional, clean, and quick which is all I really care about.

There's a multi-touch pad on the controller, scrolling will be liberating.

Can't say I like it much. Would definitely change the blue white color theme first day with the console.

Doubt it especially now that they charge for online multiplayer.
Bu bu but but Microsoft shows ad. Surely they will do the same!

In all seriousness Sony should test an ad supported free online version too. Like once in a while you get a commercial, in between matches or load TImes. I sure as hell wouldn't use it, I'd gladly pay for the ad-free version. But for the people that would put up with it Sony would probably make more money.

old. But something I thought of watching it again...wouldn't the new PS4 be able to run much more awesome and 'dynamic' themes? 0_0

That brings up another thing I've been thinking about, I want to see that multi touch pad in action with UI. I want to see some gestures in place for some quick task switching and some customizable hot corners to jump to specific sections. So many unanswered questions at this point.

If you can't tell by now, I really want an official UI video so bad. I think at this point I'm more excited about it than the actual launch games. 7 years with a slow XMB that has mostly stayed the same has me so excited about next gen UI.

Reminds me of a bootlegged version of Windows 8.

If they can't develop good uis internally why not just outsource it.

child, please....

If it's a poor ui, but reminds you of windows 8, does that mean windows 8 is a poor ui and wouldn't that mean xb1 will be a poor ui as it uses windows 8?

If you watch the cheesy ui video with sarah greene, you'll see the going from ui directly to game without seemingly using the ui, that's a double click on the touchpad.

No. He said bootlegged for a reason.

Looks too blue.

Don't like that the square for the game he's playing is blank instead of displaying a picture of the game or something.

And along the top, it just says "FirstName LastName" instead of saying the player's name. How ghetto is that?

Total fail Sony.

What a post. Lol

I need a UI demo soon. MS doing unboxings and controller pr0n vids. The least Sony could do is show some of the ps4 software.

There's enough design in it to be indicative of the direction that they're going for the UI, but since it's a dev unit, the retail interface could be entirely different. The Xbox 360 and Wii U dev menus are just giant lists of text.

From that clip it looks like it's about the same as the current playstation store ui on ps3.
The basic structure at least. Which is also absolutely terrible. Why did they change it? It's also extremely slow to just start up and it always lags.

A bit off topic, but still. It needs to be said.

That's interesting. Hadn't heard that. I guess I'm skeptical based on the initial mock ups. I hope they show a little something of it at Gamescom, even if it's just the front end.

That image I really like, but it does pose the scrolling question. I hate the way it's done on the 360 right now, though I suppose that also has something to do with how slow the UI is. Definitely could pose problems if people are going download only.

I assume there will be some kind of "folders" like on Vita and PS3, but maybe some kind of "grid" view too? Something like on the Mac taskbar maybe?

Well during gameplay you can press the PSbutton twice to go instantly back to your game where it left off so maybe the same function could be used when the machine is idle? wish sony would show more of how the UI works
