Splinter Cell: Blacklist |OT| Warning: May Contain Trace Amounts Of Stealth

Has this got any new cool animations?

This series was always cool to me because of animations like the split jump:

Or when Sam's hand got near the knife when he got close to an enemy:

I miss the weird humor.

*grabs enemy in headlock and pulls them into the darkness*
Enemy soldier: Are you going to kill me???
Sam: Only if you say the word 'monkey'
Enemy soldier: What?!?!

Never played a SC game before and picked up Conviction months ago. Didn't feel stealth at all. I barely followed the story, and it felt like a mess. Blacklist looks cool, but I don't know.

Hiya, I have a question regarding redemption of the game

Me and my friend orders the EVGA 760s from Newegg that came with the free game code. We ordered it about 2 weeks apart.

However, when my friend tried to redeemed his code it said that it already had been redeemed. However when I asked him for it so I could redeem it for him(He's easy at getting lost when it comes to sites and promotions like this) it turns out they sent him the same code as me. Which is freaking weird when it comes to the time difference of us ordering it. NEVERMIND only the first couple sets of letters are the same.

He already emailed newegg(Since it's obviously their fuck up with sending the same codes), but I'm wondering if anyone got the code from a graphic card and whether they had difficulties redeeming it?

Play Chaos theory, it's proper stealth.

So how does Uplay work? I redeemed the nvidia code and got SC conviction in my games library but Blacklist preorder isn't there. Is there predownloading or will it pop in my games on release date and start downloading?

Anyone try to activate a code they bought from Ebay, yet?

Mine is saying invalid, called Ubisoft, and they said it will say invalid code until the game and servers go live on the 20th.

If you used the code from the Nvidia Geforce promotion you should have been given Splinter Cell Conviction in your Uplay account to d/l and play right now.

Have you redeemed it on Nvidia first? You should get a Conviction Deluxe copy until Blacklist comes out

I've got the Nvidia codes for this, but honestly? I'm really not up to starting the series. I feel like the story is going to fly right over my head. Especially with how badly recieved Conviction was (I only ever played the ipad version). How established in Splinter Cell's cannon does one have to be to enjoy the story? Or is it kind of a reboot (no Michael Ironsides, etc.)?

The story sucks major balls, you won't enjoy it. The cutscenes are awful.

Ironside's voice was top notch, but that was it.

I actually just played through the series and I really liked Conviction's story. Wrapped up Ironside's story really well, on to the new guy.

If you're not interested in it, let me know! i haven't had any luck getting a code on eBay thus far.. getting outbid all the time.

If i haven't managed to snatch a code by Tuesday i'll go Wii U version i think.

FUCK, I hate having to wait until Tuesday.

And then having to slowly download off Uplay. :( I dunno why they didn't allow Nvidia card redeemers or pre-orders to pre-load like Steam does.

Yep, I'm sitting here with my e-mail telling me when it releases but no information about downloading it before that point. Oh, Uplay...

I should get around to finishing the last two or three levels in my Conviction replay. I'm up to Third Echelon but haven't bothered to finish it yet.

Conviction had some good ones. Like if you were far away from cover Sam would sort of scramble to get there.

Ubisoft is usually pretty good with their animation work. I haven't watched too many videos on Blacklist but I'm sure there's some cool stuff in there.

Ugh school starts for me on the 21st, why can't they just flip the switch on PC a bit early? Not like the games not done yet. I really wish I could play it this weekend.

Anyway, super excited for this. I've played every game in the series (excluding handheld/mobile versions) and loved every one, even if I've been disappointed in the direction its taken since Chaos Theory (the addition of that knife was the beginning of all this action nonsense!).

Hm, think I'll replay the first and second game this weekend.

Thank god, someone else agrees. Chaos Theory isn't a bad game, but it's a terrible "stealth" game because of that knife and no punishment for breaking stealth. :/

I've never played Chaos Theory with killing people. Sam can already instantly knock out from any angle, so what's overpowered about the knife?

And this game is probably going to have that awful mouse smoothing/ acceleration bullshit where you either aim super fast or ridiculously slow.

I do remember Chaos Theory being more lenient with players who wanted to go all stabby stabby on the enemies instead of using stealth tools and techniques to get past them. But that's what I liked about Chaos Theory; the game basically lets you screw around. I felt like earlier games pushed you to be stealthy (obviously), and later games pushed you to kill them dead. Chaos Theory lets you do whatever. Go pure stealth, or go assemble a pile of corpses.

The main reason the knife is overpowered is because even after a guard has spotted you, it is fairly simple to quickly walk up to him and kill him with a knife stab. In the first and second game, a guard spotting you would be much harder to handle since you didn't have that option (and you could only instant knockout from the back). You ended up having to really learn the level design, enemy movement, and your gadgets to get through each encounter without being spotted.

But you make a good point about playing without killing anyone. You can still play the later games with almost all stealth and no killing, and Chaos Theory had several missions and areas where killing and being spotted was not allowed. Even so I prefer the design of the first two games, where stealth was mandatory even if the mission didn't end if you got out of stealth. Getting out of stealth meant you would get severely punished, and I loved that.

I downloaded Conviction at 5.9 MB yesterday. Faster than Steam has ever been, took less than 30 minutes.

It is the same guy, just a new actor.
The game is still a sequel.

The knive was very optional, no-kill runs got the best score.
And I always felt inclined to stay in the dark.

So I pretty much read all the reviews and the conclusion is:

It's a fucking Tom Clancy game, so don't expect a plot, but it is a step above Future Soldier's, which literally might be more confusing than when I played Dear Esther while either drunk or way to drowsy to even know where I was going. All it does is facilitate level variety.

Otherwise the game is good, barring control issues such as "Press A to everything, even what you didn't want to do all at once". Fine tuning, more detailed control might take place later but for the most part is unlikely to bother most people (except for the people who want 17 variable speeds crowd).

SP story mars the gameplay a bit because they force you out of the actual gameplay often enough (as in third person going to UAV sequence or first person). I couldn't care less if they meant forced "well action!" sequences because it is a goddamn Tom Clancy game after all, they've been doing that for years.

Co-op except the horde mode is good, doesn't sound like it has many of the problems that show up in SP.

SvM appears to be good unless you were of the super conservative SvM old crowd, probably just jerk each other off over Project Stealth instead. Mixed teams during TDM might seem odd. Dunno if SvM CTF will ever take off IMO, extraction (reverse SvM + extraction bit) sounds super interesting apart from Classic 2v2 mode.

I just hope I am not supposed to kill anyone.

They could free up the game and make it a sandbox like Chaos Theory, that's fine with me. What isn't fine with me is the fact that killing people willy-nilly with a knife or gun or something doesn't make enemies wear Kevlar, stay in groups, stay in the light... get smarter about a threat that is coming. Basically punish you for going that route instead of the stealth route. Since you know this is supposed to be a "stealth" game and "Splinter Cells are like slivers of glass." They aren't supposed to "leave a trace" of themselves. Basically, they aren't supposed to kill unless they have to.

Which is why Conviction works for that "kill 'em all" approach story-wise but not necessarily character wise.

Again: CT isn't a bad game and I enjoy it for the sandbox. But I loathe what it has done to the series in regards to stealth going out the window and just being "window dressing" to classify the game as a stealth game when most people probably aren't going to play it that way. Might as well make it a third person Tom Clancy Ghost Rainbow Cell of War cover shooter at this point and be done with the stealth elements. :/

What happend to project stealth?

They're still in the masturbating phase and not the "releasing what we're masturbating to" phase.

First of all I must confess, I never used the knife in Chaos Theory. When I accidently did it, I reloaded.
But, if I remember correctly, you could take enemies up front, non-leathal, if you could survive them calling for help or firing at you.

I always felt it would be easier to stay hidden, so I did. But I also tried to knock out every guard. I'd never occured to me, that I could beat CT, without staying hidden, so it is still a stealth game to me.

But yeah I agree, guards should be harder. If you take out somebody, the others should wonder where he is. And if you are spotted, they should change their tactics completly, either hunt you down, or guard the Macguffin.
But in that case it would be no use to go on, and the game should trigger the loss condition immedeately.

Anyone put off by the length or somewhat (I felt) aimlessness of Kotaku's review of Blacklist, Kirk Hamilton (who wrote it) was on Idle Thumbs this week talking about it.

The actual conversation on it is about 10-15 minutes, kinda goes on a bit about stealth games in general then more towards MGS and Dishonored for another 10 to 15 or so. Much easier to digest I thought than that what felt like 3000 word review. I don't disagree with his verdict of 'not yet' though.

That's disappointing. I still don't understand why they couldn't use Ironside. I'm sure lots of other games have different voice/mocap actors. And if they really needed to keep the mocap to the face then why not mocap Ironsides face?

Maybe Ironside was just asking for a bigger paycheck, and Ubisoft were like "nah, we got this young dude to replace you! Now get the fuck out of this franchise that you helped define in some way!"

Game is two discs on 360. Wat?

Interesting

Disc 2 contains HD texture pack for install, no word yet if part 2 of campaign also will be installed so you can play using disc 1 only.
