Rock on!

I've only seen you complain about it so far.

Though with portrait shots, I think they're best posted in quotes. They're a bit big for forums.

Ah... good idea: quoting them.

And I LOVE how Betrayer looks already, in its alpha state. I'm not sold on the red yet, because I'd sooner have had it in grey tones myself, but the drawn style drew me in completely. It's like walking in one of my old favourite b&w graphic novels. Think Milton Caniff, Gir's Blueberry, Dionnet, Gillon, Hugo Pratt. Breccia, Berni Wrightson, Andreas.

I'm in heaven.

The one thing I like about the red is that it allows me to see enemies really far away rather easily, and I can start shooting arrows at them before they see me.

Also, how satisfying is the tomahawk? Amazing.

This game has to bee seen in motion though. Especially the wind.

That wind is so unsettlingly well done. I'm hating the crashes though. Maybe I need to reduce my resolution and up my tiledshot factor...

I've done away with the red a bit using SweetFX, and I'm kinda liking that as well. But lets give the red the benefit of the doubt for now. I like how you can see it subtly in the canopy and underneath the grass as well, when you get up close. Like nature is drinking blood from the soil... yeah.

EDIT: Also, I'll eat my shoe if the game doesn't pull a reverse Fallout Tranquility Lane on you at some point, where suddenly all colour comes flowing back in.

The Man-at-Arms on this server seemed to be having a firepot turf war. The only problem was that for taking screenshots I have the bodies slider (amount of time they stay after death) all the way to right, when a player dies by fire he screams...and keeps screaming until the body disappears. I had to turn my speakers off.

Oh knock it off, you know what I mean :p

The effect. Has to be seen. And it can only be seen in motion. Because wind moves things. And things don't move in screenshots.

The sound that accompanies it is also pretty great.
I was just bugging you. =)

I just looked at a video of it on youtube, what the wind does with the grass and trees looks pretty cool.

[...] a complete failure to understand how to use black and white properly for game visuals.

Talking about right and wrong and what's 'proper' when it comes to the aesthetic of a game sounds nothing but incredibly snotty to me. It's about on par with all those people crying they want to remove the colour filter. Come on!

That said, you're welcome not to like any of it of course.

EDIT: (And not in reponse to Stallion Free's statement) not that Betrayer doesn't look nice without its filter. It's just a wholly different look. I bet Schindler's List, Frankenweenie, Sin City, Control, The Artist, all would look good using colour, but I really don't get why people are bashing the chosen look of this game so much.

Betrayer reminds me of Valhalla Rising. Very striking movie, though most of it had color.

Also, dunno if this is annoying to ask, but is it possible for your images not to be flickr links Midhras? especially with these quoted portraits, I keep clicking on them.

Whoops, yeah. sorry. I'm always lazy there. Although, if you click on them when they're not links... you'll get a very large image because I want to save these at a large size and you guys don't like flickr resized jpg's. I'm not tempted to upload them twice.

I'll remove the link.

And yeah, the being washed up on a beach in eerie surroundings does resonate with Valhalla Rising. Which incidentally was a fantastic, although flawed, movie.

Dream looks very interesting indeed. And boy, those colours in kanuuna's Skyrim shots... a nice pair with some echoing visual themes.

Okay, everybody cover your eyes:

I'm really coming around to this contrasting art style, I like that bottom one quite a bit. Are you actually playing this game in portrait mode?

I am. I've tilted my monitor into the 9:16 position and I think it fits the game like a glove. The tall trees and the winding paths in the hilly landscape all add to the experience. You'll need restored UE3 dev commands to change the FOV a bit I feel (I have it low by preference), but it's really lovely. The only thing that keeps me from continuously shooting pictures is the fact that for some reason or other my install is quite prone to crash when I take a shot. Really, the contrast, while harsh, takes a little adjusting, but if you're able to do so, in a couple minutes it all clicks and the experience is quite unique.

And it's got some good creepy moments. So it's not all grass and trees.

I saw it happening during a let's play, and it fucking amazed me.

I'm starting to notice Ambient Occlusion in a lot of the latest games looks really badly done in that it basically draws a black outline around everything. That "Dream" game is a good example as well as Far Cry 3.

I had been trying to take tiledshot pictures in Chivalry for a couple hours and they just weren't working at all. Turns out that having over 35GB of tiledshots in the game folder inhibits this...moved the images and it works again. =)

Thought this insignia was hilarious. [Edit: removed image, stretched texture was bugging me]

Found out you could get a sort of DOF by timing shots as coming out from underneath the water. I wonder if there is a cvar for this?

Texture stretch... clipping... banding. All banes of our existence as screenshooters. And I'm not even getting started on engine restrictions like hiding free cam and such.

I think they did something in Chivalry that broke timestop. Last time I tried it, I couldn't get it to work.

Was working for me today. After the last patch all of my key binds were wiped, you may have to reapply them. [edit: actually, I remember having to redo the set binds from the console and some didn't work if there was already something bound to that key. I had to go into the UDKGame.ini -> AOC.AOCPlayerInput section and chang or add the bind I wanted.]

Lol, I had all three of those issues in that last bunch of shots.

Nice catch! How soon after exiting the water?
Within less than 2 seconds unfortunately. That was on the level those shots were taken on, I tried the same thing on battlegrounds and the effect only lasted about 0.5s.

Although, if it's in the game then there may be a way to turn it on at will. Haven't found any settings in the config files yet. Is there a way to list the cvars in the console?
