Nice thing about being able to change the time of day on a per-shot basis. Here's the same shot with completely different lighting.

I had such a blast playing through Crysis, all the tools you need are right there plus the final result looks gorgeous.I wish all games offered that kind of flexibility

It just needs timestop + freecam! There's probably a way to move the camera while paused. I wonder what would happen if I tried in cheat engine...

Just downsample and inject AO, texture swapping in HL2 is not the best idea IMO.
