I'm having some difficulty understanding those credits. Do they wipe after beta?

Kinda nonsense being a alpha tester with our own credits..

So far :
- No credit/item wipe. If you buy Mk.III mass drivers, you keep them for the game
- whatever you spend in credit is lost from our account; forever. As if you'd buy stuff for the game.

What annoys me about this, is that they want us to alpha/beta test their suff, but we have to do it with our credits ?
Why can't they give everyone 99,999,999 and let ppl test to their heart's content ?

Weird alpha-test policy...

I think the biggest problem is that there may be no way to sell the things we buy within the hangar module. If they let us sell stuff for 100% of what we bought it for so we can test out the hangar, then all is well.

I guess we'll have to see when it's released Thursday.

I'm worrying a bit about how those minimum specs came to be. Is it the barely minimum to be able to play the game or could I do with a slightly weaker GPU and turn down some effects and only play in 900p (or even a bit lower)?
I'm asking this because I only have my fairly recent and quite powerful laptop at the moment, and I'll need to wait till 2014 to replace my almost dead gaming PC. There's no way in hell a normal laptop chipset can get to the power level of an 5850 without burning your desk away. Seems a bit of a bummer in that they are really targeting the 'glorious PC master race', while ignoring the younger userbase who are shorter on cash but need the laptop most for convenience.

They are going to want to test the economy systems above all else. Throwing credits at people won't give them that ability.

This game was made possible by appealing to the older gamers that grew up CRs sims which even then pushed the boundaries of hardware. This game was funded because of those enthusiasts that have money to spend.

Yeah. The game is supposed to push boundaries on the PC. If anything, the minimum specs are surprisingly low.

Jesus Christmas.

Folks are serious about this game.

The big publishers done fucked up by letting this one slip by them.

Well for ppl that like serious flight sim (and I'm one of them), we've been getting the short end of the stick for the last 10 years... No wonder CR is reaping all our money :)

Whelp, I bit the bullet and traded in my kick-starter Aurora for a 325a variant 300i series. Lord help me but I'm eyeing the cutlass now too for some space cowboy co-op action with a friend...

No Doubt about lack of love for a decade plus.

But chipping in 5 digit figures...or that high 6 figure (which can't be real, because...it just can't be...can it?)...That's Crazy.

I wish that, for all of the people who scream about Final Fantasy being "dead," they would collaborate like these people do and hit up some bored sheiks and reclusive lottery winners to create the ultimate indie-JRPG with similar production values

Speaking of money ... CIG are currently converting the original/veteran backer award 2000 credits into UEC. Should be close to done for all backers now, I reckon. Check out "My RSI" and "Billing & Subscription".

They've set the daily cap at 25.000 UEC, while 150.000 UEC is the max amount of in-game credits you can buy with real money in a month. All subject to change, I'm sure. Still, something's happening. :p

That sounds maybe a lot? I don't know. It would be interesting to know how much that amount of money would equal in playtime if you did missions and etc.

Haha probably because everybody now has Titan in their PC.

2Tf GPU is medium GPU now and it will be low to medium in 2015. But that is minimum spec.

Well, it is kinda annoying. I supposed minimum spec would be something like a 1,000~1,200GFlops, if minimum means make the game playable. But half of the 7000 range isn't even above 2TFlops. I don't want to know what they see as recommended, two Titans maybe?

They just said that there engine was 'scalable', and even things like The Witcher 2 has GTX 260 as minimum spec. Now I really have to upgrade a few months sooner if I want to test the dogfighting module.

A single 680gtx is over 3TFs. You can pick up that level of power relatively cheap now so 2TF really isn't that absurd for a dedicated PC game that was always designed to push the limits. Remember that official release date is around 2 years away, plenty of tech generations till that time. Plus at this extremely early stage of development the games is not optimized at all. CR has stated that LOD models and textures have not be done yet on anything so everything is running full detail all the time regardless of the distance.

Looks like a 660ti is 2500 gflops. That's still pretty high for a min req. It's accessible but still high. Potentially one of the highest min req games ever released? Even Crysis in it's day still RAN on lower end machines.

edit: Oh, are these min req just for the alpha? Then no biggie. The final optimized build will definitely be better than that. I missed the announcement. Did think it was a little early for min req lol.

SC is DX11 only and requires x64 CPU/OS and 8gb ram, support for that is how they're defining min spec (as in bare min required to play the game) for the final game.
As for the recommended specs this game is targeting a 2015 release, wouldn't want to base the game only on 2013 hardware would they? :)
They want to have the potential to scale the game over many years.

Oh is it? That'd explain why the minimum is so high. They said it would be scalable, so I guessed the average settings would require 2TFlops and the all low would be around 1TFlops.

I just hope the game doesn't turn into an elitist gentlemen's club. They could get all the funding through nerds paying $300+ so they won't need a very expanded audience to pay the bills, but I still think they need to find a balance in accessability.

One of the last things to go into game design is optimization. Be patient, the minimum requirements will go down overtime, and the cost of GPUs capable of >4TFlops will go down as well.

But I have no patience! *grumble grumble* :p

But I think I'll get my new PC before the optimizations allow me to play it on my laptop. It sucks, but there still is Youtube after all :p

Doesn't really seem like there is anything even worth playing until December. The hangar module is a novelty at best, and probably more useful for the team to test their distribution methods and hardware compatibility.

Yeah, but my problem mostly is that I wanted to wait untill Broadwell, seeing as I need an hybrid workstation/Dolphin build. I need a powerful CPU, which are quite expensive, and that's why I don't want to spend $450 on a GPU. I only have a limited budget, and that's also a reason why I have to wait a bit until I saved enough money.

You probably won't be able to, but the refresh on processors comes in 2015 with Skylake and that will have a huge performance gain.

Broadwell is the die shrink of Haswell, which was initially a stop gap measure.

Die shrinks are apparently bigger upgrades nowadays than new architectures though. Look at Ivy Bridge vs. Haswell. Die shrinks allow a transistor increase, while new architectures usually have slight heat increase, which is something I want to avoid. I need something which I can keep quiet under load.

I don't think I can stress how huge of an upgrade Skylake is.

DDR4, PCIE 4, 14nm (same as Broadwell). Going to be delicious.

But... but... you can always wait and wait. DDR4 isn't even that good tbh, it just has a lower power consumption for the same bandwidth. And DDR3 speeds have never been a problem.

Well they said at one point that 1,000 credits == roughly 1$
So those 150'000 credits are 150$/month worth.

It will give an advantage to whomever maxxes it out every month (in the form of a fully decked out craft, and hiering ACE npcs to man the turrets if any).

If anything, it's too much in my book. But if it keeps the game alive with content and ppl have that much to spend, who am I to complain.

It could always be adjusted at any point if it doesn't work out well, too.

Nice. It's been awhile since I logged into RSI. I see my 2k credits and my 300i. Can't wait to check out the hanger tomorrow. Going to be sweet :)
