Gimme that unified account system and a $99 price tag and I'm all over this device.
Targeted at young children, for whom the clamshell designs can be kind of a problem, as they can quite easily get rough with it and end up breaking the hinges. For a device aimed at particularly young kids, getting rid of the clamshell design makes sense.But...why doesn't it fold?
I would have day oned one of those if it folded.
Well, I believe this is the typical overreaction because I've seen plenty of it. Over the DS (2 screens!), the DSi (I remember this particular criticism to the camera res, which is the same that the Vita has nowadays), the DSi XL (is that even portable anymore?). To mention a few.You know, when a majority of people in a videogames forum say they don't like a videogames console design they are not being nerds, neckbeards or whatever shitty general definition you want to put. They are just expressing an opinion about the topic they usually talk about.
I'm sorry you feel so insecure that you can't express your own opinion without petty commentaries about the rest of us, but don't worry, I'm sure you can say "I'm ok with this design" without fear around here.
And even if this thing sells like cookies it doesn't change it is a hideous design for many of us.
Do kids not want to take their 3DS around? How does something like this pass as a portable device?Targeted at young children, for whom the clamshell designs can be kind of a problem, as they can quite easily get rough with it and end up breaking the hinges. Depends on if kids ask for Pokemon... and if the kids ask for Pokemon, wouldn't they already have a 3DS? And if they do, wouldn't they just get those regular 3DS bundles?
This thing looks hilarious. If I got one I'd start thinking my parents don't love me
How so? They don't care about 3D in fact my oldest hates it because he has to hold the 3DS just right to see with it on, they get to play all of the 3DS games and I get to save money. Please explain how my 8 year old and 3 year old will be disappointed by getting a 2DS instead of a 3DS?

An 8 year old doesn't like the 3d? That's odd.
Am I the only one who thinks this is a good idea?
Selling the 3DS at $170 when the Nexus 4 is now $200 is ridiculous. This make a lot more sense. The combined effect of this and Pokemon should be pretty impressive.
Didn't stop stuff like the iPad and Kindle from catching on. Whether this ends up succeeding or not, that won't be the reason.Do kids not want to take their 3DS around? How does something like this pass as a portable device?
This seriously doesn't fold into a clamshell? What in the actual fuck?

By being completely flat and emulating the form factor of a book, which can easily be stored away or accessed even inside a simple folding case. How does an ipad pass as a portable device?
The Gameboy could fit in pockets. Much more easily with its later iterations. This is way too wide. The same way as the gameboy. BACKPACKS.

All in all I predict this will be the top selling 3DS model this Holiday. Nintendo struck gold with kids and some people who just don't like 3D or can't see it.
People will just use a case for it. That's one thing parents are capable of figuring out and typically are under no misconception, especially since tablets became prevalent, that all these devices have to be able to fit into their or their kids' pockets.By being completely flat and emulating the form factor of a book, which can easily be stored away or accessed even inside a simple folding case.

True. You have no idea how many kids I took care of that walked around with broken hinges on their DS/3DS. This could definitely take care of that issue for SOME kids (cause lets be honest kids will always find a way to break something!).Targeted at young children, for whom the clamshell designs can be kind of a problem, as they can quite easily get rough with it and end up breaking the hinges. So, is the price of the original 3DS going to go down or stay the same?
No it annoys him quite a bit. So again please tell me why he is going to be disappointed if I get him a 2DS over a 3DS?
No. Many of us, after the initial shock wore off, see this as a brilliant move.
I think the design is funky as hell. But fuck it, if it increases awareness in quality handheld gaming, this is great for the industry. And that is something that we all should appluad. Even though some of us are insecured that the 2DS pulls the curtain up and exposes video game machines as toys.
It fits perfectly in his hands, because guess what? He's a kid. It's no different than a kid holding an ipad or a kindle fire, and it's cheaper than both.
After sixty something pages, childless grown ass adults are still losing their shit over a child-proof cheap as dirt 3ds.
Obviously he is not if he doesn't like 3D.
If you have to buy a case for it then you are saving what...twenty bucks? The 3DS price is insulting, and this new remedial model instead of a price drop is a gross business practice that hardly seems oriented towards consumers.People will just use a case for it.
Why would it go down now? Seems counter intuitive. The 2DS is the new cheap model and it works perfectly for that.
Hmm... Can anyone name a game where that would be necessary with any frequency and not just a matter of preference between using the Circle Pad or D-Pad (something a kid probably wouldn't care that much about)? Now let us see him using the d-pad and the left trigger comfortably...
Iwata: *careful chuckle*The more I see it the more I enjoy the thought of it.
