PlayStation Vita TV Already Sold Out on Amazon Japan

Now for Capcom and SQEX to reconsider their games for the Vita

Maybe Take 2 will finally let Levine make Bioshock Vita and it will launch when the device launches in NA, with a limited edition VitaTV Bioshock Edition. [/wishful thinking]

Oh I know, but I fear that Vita TV will simply outsell Vita several times (10x20 times) more during the same time frame

That would be incredibly good for Sony and consumers. Developers would take note = more games would get released.

Everything gaming is niche hardware. I bet they sell more of these than Vita's, so how is that "not helping install base"?

I'm sure they will sell more of these than Vitas but this might help Vita sales as well (more long term). Consumers that like the games that Vita offers may want to purchase the handheld unit for on-the-go gaming.

yea, first we bait the kids for a cheap minecraft box with VTV, then after they're hooked, have them whine to their parents for minecraft on the go with Vita. profit.

How dare you use logic and reason. Sony already won the next generation and it hasn't even started yet.

Considering Vita is selling between 6000-15000 units per week even selling out 5000 units in just 2 (one?) days and in one retailer is impressive.
The question is: Will this last long enough for Vita to start selling consistently better?

Nevermind, you're just hating on the Vita for the sake of hating.

What will be really interesting is if they allow (or rather are able to) instant switch between digital games from PSV to VTV so you can go from on the go to home and not miss a beat.

The more I think of the Vita TV, the more i'm convinced it was an act of genius, if it turns out to have good video. the idea of basically using your handheld ecosystem for your set top box is awesome.

No need to reinvent the wheel ecosystem wise, and every sale of it furthers your own handheld userbase in the eyes of developers. It's very simular to the iphone to ipad release.

Makes me wonder what the Vita TV slim will be like though. Maybe a better upscaler? Built in memory increase? I dunno.

Eh, but we're talking pre-orders of a new console-ish (it's halfway between an actual new console and a new Vita revision) versus weekly sales of the Vita after two years on the market. Given the usual drop-off in sales after the first week, 5000 in one or two days would probably only add up to an extra 500 or so units per week afterwards. You'd have to hope that Sony is aiming much, much higher than that.

I won't lie, even if this in particular doesn't mean much, it's nice to see some positive Vita news for once.

Wait, never mind.

I was talking about numbers in his scenario where the Vita TV only had 5000 units for sale, I think most of us can agree they have way more than that.

Oh definitely, as I stated before, I was just talking with numbers in his scenario where Sony couldn't have sold more than 5000 because that's how many units they supposedly allocated.

Anyone wanna buy my OUYA for $100?... Anyone?... Please?

I kind of feel bad for Ouya, regardless of the quality of the system. Their kickstarter showed that there was some demand for a micro console that played mobile-based games on the big screen. However, by the time they actually managed to get units to retail, several of the big boys had decided to throw their hat in the ring. A start up company is not going to compete with Google, Amazon and Sony.

With all the vita TV threads it's hard to remember what I posted and didn't lol. Yeah that is being discussed a lot, but I imagine this and any other big title will be patched when given the opportunity to reach a larger audience. The charcoal rubbings are tough, but for the most part everything else was optional anyways. The swipe QTEs just become buttons, the paddling in the canoe becomes analog based, the grenades go to the regular UC grenades, etc. It's a very simple patch, with the potential for tons of sales. I'm sure sony gave the heads up to their studios about this anyways, and probably are well underway for a solution to it. It's also good, because going forward companies can bear in mind that they have to include a way to control it on the vitaTV.

DS3 patches:
Charcoal rubbing = continuously pressing the X button
Swipe QTE = button QTE
Canoe = analog
Gyro = gyro
Grenades = button
Backpad = button (was always optional)
Camera (hold camera to light) = no idea how they would patch this

DS4 patches:
Charcoal rubbing on the touchpad
Swipe QTE = touchpad
Canoe = touchpad
Gyro = gyro
Grenade = touchpad
Backpad = touchpad or button (was always optional)
Camera (hold camera to light) = no idea how they would patch this

Of course the DS3 patches would still work on the DS4 patch.

The big question mark is how they would patch the camera puzzle. Everything else seems to be a pretty straightforward patch, but the camera one could require a significant patch and I'm not sure they would go through the effort of doing that unless they were planning on re-releasing the game, in which case they should add multiplayer DLC :D

Holy shit the playstation ad (the one with the Killzone party lol) already has 850 000 views. I know views don't mean sales but its already the second most watched video on their channel.

Link to video?

Um, nope. It gets FIFA, and that's it.

iOS gets better sports game support than the Vita.

Yeah, vita REALLY needs better support from sport games.

I said this in the other thread, but I still think it's true.

I think this thing will slaughter Vita sales, ESPECIALLY in the West. I think the majority of Vita games coming 2-3 years from now won't even use touch screen because they'll be made with this in mind. I also think that this will be the new home for a lot of Japanese developers that don't have the resources to invest in hugely detailed graphics but want to do console games instead of handhelds.

It's a hell of a goal to reach, but I really do think that's where this will head.

Yeah, vita REALLY needs better support from sport games.

The hold against light gimmick in AC3: L didn't actually use the camera, it used the gyros. It was the reason why it was so buggy.

A patch for Uncharted could just do the same. "Hold your controller up against a light source", most people will have light above them so it will probably work.
It's a one time thing anyway.

Actually, that would probably sell a ton of units. My kid is constantly complaining about how the Minecraft portable doesn't do much of what he can do on the 360.

Don't know how I feel about this as a OG Vita owner. I love the idea to get more people into the ecosystem, but I can't see the benefit for someone who already owns a system. Any help here guys? I'm still a little confused as to what it is exactly even after reading the information.

Depends on how the cloud saves work it could be awesome for a vita owner.

I hope it does well. I want more Vita games and if this thing can get good enough traction then it could lead to more of those. I really want a Gravity Rush 2, though at this point I don't care if it was a Vita or PS4 game, I just want a Gravity Rush sequel.

Edit: lol those two things somewhat contradict each other, but my desire for a Gravity Rush sequel outweighs all else.

Vita is still inportant to Sony. Expect continued double psn/ps4 and ps3/vita releases. And now maybe developers will be attracted to the install base and the future BRAVITAs that are no doubt in the works. We may lose touch stuff... I can handle that.

More avenues to sell games = More people buying games = more developers making games = more games for you to buy

That's the best benefit somebody who already owns a Vita could ask for.

Direct benefits? You can play your Vita/PSP/PS1 games on your TV. Maybe that doesn't interest you, and that's cool.

Indirect benefits? A broader install base that can play Vita games = More games will be coming to your Vita. That should interest you greatly.

Do you have any interest in apple tv? Do you want to stream ps4 games to another tv? The gaming tagged onto it is just icing on the cake. If you have a Vita and want this kind of steaming service it seems like an easy choice to go with sony over the others.

I don't know where this belongs or if someone's already pointed this out, but our own FamousMortimer points out on his blog that if we were listening we would have realized that Andrew House talked about the PS Vita TV all the way back at the February PS4 reveal:

http://doddscientifics.com/2013/09/10/vita-tv-hinted-at-during-ps4-february-reveal-event/

the video is embedded there, skip to the 5:20 mark and have a listen. Sony's strategy for this launch is just insanely focused and on point.
