DF article GTA V - X360 vs PS3

the texture thing is a glitch, this should easily get fixed on the 360 with a title update.

Will be interesting to see if DF revisits after the eventual title updates to see the differences.

There's a few others mentioned in the article though they're not as big ..

- 360 has better reflection on indoor mirrors
- 360 has better frame rate in in-engine scenes.
- PS3 can randomly pull out more frames in action scenes, it flip flops on either.

how do you know it's a glitch? indoor mirror reflections on the handful of mirrors in the game won't matter. textures are blurrier on 360 in cutscenes so it makes sense that the framerate is solid. GTA is about the unscripted chaos so I want to go with the console that has a more stable framerate in those instances. DF says that's where PS3 pulls ahead in terms of framerate.

Both versions look shit to me, neither looks even remotely similar to the videos they put out earlier.

Will wait for the PC version I think.

Well wasn't the PS3 the lead platform for the game because of the architecture? I definitely believe so. It also feels like Sony guys did give them a hand to help make the game because I doubt Rockstar knew the ps3 the way it did compared to GTA 4 which wasn't optimized for the PS3. Either way, glad I got the ps3 version because it playing amazing.

lol at trying to ignore reality by "not noticing" good luck with that

I never said I didn't notice, but it's just funny people making decisions based on such tiny differences.

There is a big difference between noticing and noticing but not impacting your enjoyment. If these tiny difference impact your enjoyment, you may as well go PC.

Thats all :)

I normally play on PC, but you know....GTA V isn't on there yet

If you have a nice rig, I'd just wait to be honest, it shouldn't be that long and there are plenty of other great games coming out between now and holidays.

Unless you know, they pull a Red Dead Redemption :/

I've made my point abundantly clear about it in previous posts and I feel like I'm going in circles here. If you would like to know why I think they aren't clear, go ahead and read my post history.

I have .. no need to worry.. I´m not trying to point something out here. It just seems you confuse enviromental detail and textures in your posts.

Looking forward to enjoying my Playstation 3 copy even more now. Feels nice knowing it isn't the one with compromises and even has a slight edge over the 360 version. This is a good day but I can't play the game for another 9-10 hours due to work.

Ground is what you see all the time in these games, low res
Textures on the ground is horrible

Yes, it's such a jarring difference that in every pre-release stream people had to ask what version it was.

This seems so slight that even if I did have my PS3 still, I would have still chosen the 360 version for controller preference. Not only did it surprise me how close they are, but the PS3 having the edge definitely deserves some kudos sent Rockstar's way.

I'll be picking up a 16Gb USB drive to install the Play disk, seems that is the best way and who knows, if it is a glitch, it will be fixed, if not ... I've seen enough streams on both platforms (and not able to tell the difference) that I'm pretty sure this will be a non-issue.

I don´t care about these small differences.. I only care about the games being almost identical.. no more Bayonetta, RDR etc. just nice to know none of the consoles are left behind.

Fuck, i bought it for 360 based on R*'s previous history... and i have both consoles.. and the online on ps3 would've been free.

Oh well, i'll double dip for the PC version anyway.

If you can wait you should, the IQ and framerate are pretty awful.

not impressed by the performance on either console. Hope I can hold out for the pc version. We'll see if the hype hits me...hasn't yet.

Both versions seem solid.

The only diffrences seem to be nit picky stuff and both have small advantages and disadvantages.

Good job Rockstar. Now make a next gen version because this game is pretty damn jaggy

why did you do that..? I remember you saying yesterday that you would wait for the DF article before you decided.

Honestly though

People making the decisions based on these differences, for these same people, why not just go for PC?

I really don't understand - when you base your decisions on all these Technical analysis reviews, then it clearly impacts your choice, so why not go PC?

That way you don't have to worry about these Technical Head2Heads anymore.

I am not just talking about GTA V (We all know it's coming to PC), I mean in general.

Because some people don't have/want gaming PCs for whatever reason? Seriously, this has been discussed ad nauseum.

Most of the big multiplatform (except something like Baynoneta) have been bought on PS3 for me. Free online was the main reason. It's really good to see the PS3 has the edge on this one but that didn't stop me from enjoying RDR or GTA4 but in the back of mind I always was disappointed knowing it wasn't at least on par with the 360 version. I won't have to think like that with this one. It's actually native 720p this time as well. Major victory for Rockstar on PS3 considering their past efforts on PS3.

The hype has hit me, but what I am seeing is, aside from excellent design, rather depressing. I would have preferred it if DF made a proper checkup with PSN DL version as well as a proper 360 disc/USB/full HDD comparison.

I think it's just been too long this generation; with the next gen consoles on the horizon and even the most modest of PC's blowing these consoles away, multiplatforms on anything but PC are getting kind of hard to fathom, especially from a frame rate point of view.

It's a free roaming. It's pratically the normality (for this generation).

However normal 20 fps may be for free roaming, it is still shit. :D Still, I sit here LISTENING to Youtube videos in the background while studying/writing some documentation, and it is driving me bonkers. :D

I won´t lie.. I played and loved both GTAIV and RDR on my ps3, and I had no problems with any of the games.. but reading the threads here about the differences between X360 and PS3 may me slightly mad.. for no reason at all, because I played and loved the games. lol

It's not the "best" option, it's the "best of two" option. While it's obvious the inevitable PC version will be better ... that's not what this is about. If you ask somebody "COD or BF4 for my PC?" and they answer "Killzone for the PS4" it really doesn't make any sense does it? You want the best option of your presented two choices. Adding in a third option that isn't even related to the two platforms in question just seems idiotic.

Shame, Red Dead Redemption really is a beautiful game when it isn't covered in vaseline.

I'm sure it played the same at least. But moments like that made me happy to own both...

If you are a console only guy, you could just hold out for a possible next gen version.

See? All it takes is $240,000,000 or so and you can get your PS3 game looking as good as the 360 version.

Other studios take notice!

But man, the very first thing I said when I saw GTA in motion ... outside ... holy mutha those jaggies. The entire screen moving and shifting in the background. My first thought, " god i hope this comes to next-gen ".

Especially since I just ran around doing random things for 3 hours and was laughing hysterically. I would have used the Share button about 10x probably.

Framerate, for me, it is not an issue. It does not drop low enough to cause actual gameplay problems. But yes, it is sub-30 depending on how much of the city is being rendered in view at that given time. If your walking around in a hilly area? Enjoy 30. If your somewhere with the entire city skyline being rendered? Enjoy 25.

IQ, I dunno about this one. The IQ so far to me has been brilliant. All the random interactivity with the citizens and such. The police seem MUCH more geared to seeking you out and searching around for you as opposed to other GTA's. I did have an issue riding in a taxi though. Told the dude to Hurry and he went from driving normal to driving like he is drunk. Rammed cars and even got stuck a few times.

But why not add that 3rd option if its there? If being so serious about the differences.

Lets be honest. A PC that plays everything on highest settings/60fps is not that expensive.

To Irrational Games credit, Bioshock 1 was also abysmal on PS3 (handled by Digital Extremes) and then Bioshock Infinite (done by Irrational) was slightly better on PS3.

go and get another hobby,seriously

im on gaming since the late seventies and this is one of the most impressive representation ( if not the most) of a city on any game, his scope is mesmerizing, the attention to detail (just look at the storms, the ocean, etc) is incredible

so if that look like shit to you..man i dont know what to say..graphics arent only mega texturas and high resolutions, this is one of the biggest sins the "master race" indulges in these days

1080p? thats BS,i have a 770 with a i7 and a lot of games on high settings arent on the 1080p 60 fps range...witcher, crsys 3,xcom the bureau, etc just for example

DF all but declares a tie, twelve-year-olds dedicated to their platform on each side gloat anyway. Oh, internet.

Really, it should be celebrated that a game this complicated and boundary-pushing has come so close to parity on both platforms. Consumers should be choosing their games based off things like controller preference and what their friends are playing on for GTA Online...and they can happily do that here, instead of worrying about things like resolution downgrades and other nastiness.

Exactly. I played RDR on both PS3 and 360 extensively and the differences were no way near as bad as some would have you believe. Had a blast on both. I'd imagine it's a similar situation with GTA V, if even less noticeable.

I'm just glad all (current gen, lol) console owners can enjoy this game as it was meant to be played.

? You sure it was me? I pre-ordered for 360 on October of 2012.

Anyway, Jesus the ground textures on 360 are atrocious, hopefully it's just a bug or something and they can patch it out.
Everything else looks the same and i like the 360 pad a lot more, so it's not really a big deal.

Giving an opinion on the pros and cons of each version is good for multiconsole owners. Anyone who thinks that's 'console warrior ammunition' is clearly projecting.

Of course I'm projecting. I'm projecting the results of the DF comparison (and my experience with both versions) on their impact on the game just to realise that it has no impact at all.

Good job, Rockstar. From the awful PS3 version of IV to two almost identical versions down to the pixel, pretty impressive.

And yeah, this is a really good looking game. Not the best looking game of the generation by far, but among open world games it's definitely the king. Framerate is vastly improved from IV (PS3) on average, although I was a bit disappointed to see the drops to around 20 fps on busy city streets after having read so many early impressions stating that the game only ever drops a bit below 30. Maybe the people saying that just aren't as sensitive to framerate drops as me, because I immediately noticed that it gets significantly worse than that at times. The game does reach 30 fps quite frequently in less busy areas though, which is a nice change from IV (although it makes the drops to 20 fps even more jarring when they happen).

Horrible. 60 FPS PC version (preferably moddable) or bust. Throw in RDR for good measure, too, Rockstar. What's taking so long? You'd be able to make a killing.

Sorry, Red Dead was one of the worst ports this generation.

I'm glad Rockstar got their act together at least.

For someone who desperately waits for DF comparisons to determine which version and platform is superior, someone is having a hard time accepting the fact that their own choice of platform this time wasn't DF's preferred platform to play GTAV on.
