Video: Gamestop manager threatens to release angry customer's details over GTA V spat

I seriously don't know how people have so much trouble at gamestop.

I've never had one single problem ever. All the employees I have encountered are nice peeps and I've even made friends with some of them.

Then again, I'm a regular at the two locations I frequent so that could be a thing.

I would have said something to him if he was holding up the line to the point where it was getting frustrating.

As for the dropping of his receipt, It only makes him look idiotic and clumsy; especially after forgetting his I.D. AND arguing.
Only saying something, ha, your aggressive diction would totally get the job done.

He would be more prone to dropping something because his mind is on other things and he is frustrated.

This is definitely one of the things I don't miss about owning a gaming store. I had to bounce at least one idiot a week for lack of ID. More than once it escalated to the point of me calling the police and one really special time I actually had a livid customer hide around the store corner to ambush me after closing up.

All that said, the bigger idiot in this scenario is the manager that made GS look like shit on video. She had to know that was her ass.

Some jerk tried to jump you over a video game? I've got to hear this story, please continue...

appearantly, he originally tried to use his buisness card but then came back with his id. and that is when the recording started.

imo if that is what happened she is the absolute biggest asshole employer I have seen in a long time.

Yup. If this is what actually happened in the video(Guy walks back in with ID, douche decides to hit record, manager sees this and says 'SHOW TIME BOYS') then the manager is straight up in the wrong. And for those saying 'well he's a manbaby', no, he probably isn't. He was just trying to get out of their but was jeered by the woman and the crowd. So yeah, he goes up to her, gets her name and number, and calls corporate.

The only manbaby in this situation is the guy recording.

You would think people who go to the store to buy GTA at midnight would have better manners.

No offense to anybody, just making a joke.

That guy is a complete cock-wad for throwing a temper-tantrum over having to show ID. Would he rather anyone just waltz in, claim to be him and claim his copy? WTF's wrong with some customers. I wouldn't wish retail work on anybody. Not to mention that it's an M rated game...

With that said, the lady was completely out of line. Not just as an employee, but as a freaking District Manager. Are you kidding me? She's apparently hell to work under though. I have a friend who worked for her, that ended up, according to doctors, developing some sort of a panic-attack disorder triggered by stressful situations. I realize that this makes things difficult for the rest of the team, but as a manager instead of working with it, she started scheduling him for hours without letting him know and then trying to reprimand him for "not showing up."

He seriously tried using a business card as proof of I.D? Guy is an idiot.

The guy's a complete asshole. It's kinda sad that her getting fired (like she deserves to be) also ends up giving him what he wants cause he's far from innocent in this situation.

Yeah, this.

Should she have been terminated? Yep probably. But for those that talk about turning off emotion in these situations, you're only human. Besides the console launch dates I'm sure this was the craziest day of the year. She'd probably been dealing with d-bags all day and night. Then this guy flat out doesn't want to follow the rules.

In the words of Chris Rock : "I'm not saying what she did is okay, but I understand..."

No, she was being stupid. The normal thing to do would be to keep your mouth shut and then redicule the unruly customer with other employees after everyone had left the store. I can't believe people are still trying to justify the managers behavior, it's laughable.

That would be the logical thing sure. That is Monday morning quarterbacking.

Her intent wasn't to ridicule him...her voice and body language are clearly conveying distress. She is dealing with antagonist customer...another customer video recording the last portion of the incident...then a midnight lauch crowd for gta5.

Distress? What? She was not distressed. She was probably shaking because she felt she could one up him. Because of the excitement oozing in her body. But that is not being distressed.

Not too spectacular I'm afraid. He was super upset because I wouldn't sell him GoW. He gave me a bunch of shit and told my manager that he'd slap her if she talked again. So I told him to GTFO or I'd call the cops. He knocked over a ps2 discount rack on the way out and then ran off. Lol. He then stood at the opposite end of the strip, where I could plainly see him, until a friend showed up, took his money and then walked into the store. He asked for the game, I said, "no, because I saw you talking to the kid I just threw out." he said that's cold, see you tonight and walked out.

Sure as shit I'm on my way out and get hit in my back with something, turned around to catch the softest fist hit I've ever had, right in the jaw. Was not happy. My manager ran to her car and called the cops. I stepped outta the way of a second punch and hit him back on the chin and he dropped like rain.

He was only 17. I pressed assault/battery charges (manager filed assault charges) and he got house arrest for 3 months with some probation. His mother apologized to me and thanked me for not hurting him and I never saw him again.

Like I said, not spectacular. I smacked around a parent once for slapping their 4 year old kid in the face in my store. That's a much better story. Was much more expensive too. Lol.

Since when does GS require ID's for preorder pickups? Every one I have ever been to requires nothing more than your receipt.

Great to see she got shit canned. A district manager in a retail environment... this customer interaction should not even break her top 50. Maybe even top 100 if she has worked retail long enough.

Even if it's not a ubiquitous policy everywhere, it just makes sense when a store is gonna release a product to someone. Anyone can steal someone's receipt. If he had any common sense, he would have refrained from getting his tits tied in a knot over it and acted like a freaking adult. Guess they both deserve each other.

Never had to show an ID at GS and I prefer it that way. If someone "stole my receipt" I'd just call up there and let them know. THEN they can require an ID or maybe a phone call to the number given for the preorder.

And yeah they deserve each other. Maybe she can come over and play GTA V with him when she's not job hunting. And GL finding another retail job when it's known you're the cunt who threatened to give out information on a customer so that he can be heckled and harassed. Honestly I am surprised and impressed with how calmly the dude responded to that. I would have been livid and probably would still be in jail. I am reading a lot of stuff about how she was just a total pain in the rear to work for too. Take from that what you will but yeah, I bet one GS district is full of people celebrating tonight.

GameStop is a horrible horrible business.

The industry needs Gamestop (or something like it). I wish it had more consumer-friendly policies, and sometimes the locations or employees are substandard, but having a store dedicated to our hobby benefits us. There are no mom-and-pop game stores in my area; the big box store selection is strictly best-sellers and peripherals are practically non-existent.

Gamestop seems to be a cesspool for unprofessional employees. Past couple of years I've witnessed lots of embarrassing situations initiated by employees. Employees berating customers for having "bad tastes". Making fun of customers who purchase NIS games. I've seen employees with a console bias yell things like "I hope the new playstation fails!" I had a store manager tell me he converted everyone in a town to a 360 user.

I once overheard a Gamestop employee tell a man wanting to buy a console with his young daughter that the Wii wasn't really the best choice for a family. Fanboys may be eager to have the job, but they often make poor decisions for your business. The man left without buying the Xbox the clerk was recommending as "the best."

Only reason he was "calm" is cause he was being a passive-bitch, but he was hardly the "bigger guy" in the situation or anything. The entire scenario would have probably been avoided if he had just shown a government ID instead of holding up everyone else in the line and being an asshole-customer.

But yeah, this lady was awful and had it coming. If you look at my post further above, I discovered second-hand how horrid of a District Manager she was. Her days were numbered because of her own actions. This douchebag customer was just the catalyst.

Both people on that video seemed to be acting childish IMO. We also see the incident halfway into it, so we have no idea what that guy was doing/saying before the camera started rolling.

Also, this YouTube comment.

"That asshole WAS HOLDING UP THE LINE. And only because he refused to follow the store's protocol. He was making that woman's job harder than necessary. During a might-night launch no less. The video doesn't show the part where that asshole berated the clerks because they didn't accept HIS BUSINESS CARD as an ID. He refused to get a proper ID because the jerk didn't want to return home without his copy of GTAV. So he instead decided to hold the line until he got his way. Fuck him"

Her Linkedin page says she is a district manager.

Weirdos are looking up her info? Why am I not surprised?

I'm not stunned by the GameStop shopping experience or the behavior of the other customers that frequent the place, but by the fact that this person recording doesn't suffer from Vertical Video Syndrome.

Why do people feel the need to embarrass themselves like this...there has got to be some messed up juices in the brain...if you are an unhappy customer, then leave the damn store. Btw, do people read their receipts anymore?

Btw, all she needed to do was tell him "No" and ask him to leave the line. I manage retail as day job and I don't take shit from customers. I say "Read your receipt" or "No"; apologize and move on. "If you have a problem contact customer service."

Done.

PS person that recorded this is a POS...

It's a midnight launch for a Grand Theft Auto game at a GameStop. Of course it's filled with people worth hating.

When I worked at Gamestop I had SO MANY people bitch at me because they didn't have their ID. One guy kicked the door open so hard it broke the glass. So glad that job is behind me, that Lady was a fucking bitch though.

Then again, I'm a regular at the two locations I frequent so that could be a thing.

I've the exact opposite experience. Just about every time I've ever been to a GameStop, I've either witnessed poor behavior towards other people or had it directed at me. Everything from snide remarks about not pre-ordering or buying into one of their crappy deals or subscriptions, to employees trying to force or chide people into used games over new copies (at almost the same price), to defective merchandise, refusing returns, disavowing warranties that they upsold, providing disinformation to customers (I have to assume on purpose) to make a sale or avoid a cost, promote one system over another, making fun of a purchase, etc., etc.

This is not in a single location, but in dozens over the years. I still have to go there when they are the only place that has some game I still want to buy in retail, but I always kick myself for not pre-ordering on Amazon.

I'm just about the most relaxed and accommodating person in the world, so it's never escalated with me, but I've seen other people lose their shit a LOT worse than this guy in the video. I've witnessed a physical scuffle in a store. These kinds of problems are so endemic that its clear to me that for as large a corporation as they are, they clearly have the worst HR and hiring division of any major company I know. How EA beat them as worst company is beyond me.

Gamestop and EB Games is the worst place to buy games and rude employees is nothing new, This incident just happened to be actually recorded by someone in line.

For the first time in ages i had to walk in and pre-order the windwaker HD LE at a gamestop (Which is bullshit) but once i get that i will go back to Amazon or local game shop.

They are the only ones apparently offering it so i had no choice.
(Please correct me if i am wrong so i can cancel the pre-order)

Biggest mistake was to try and get a reaction from the crowd while he was on his way out.

Stupid move and the guy filming......No Comment.

Years ago i recall and employee saying

"Good luck trying to find a copy on launch day without a pre-order"

Ha Ha

Stupid shit they say from the pressure they are under for "Rezos" (That is what they call it)

I don't recommend you stepping into a parent disciplining their child unless the child is truly getting abused. I saw a guy at a store try to do that and the child's father beat the living fuck out of the dude.

Doesn't make it more okay to slap a kid.

I yelled "she's four!" at a mom that practically ripped a little girls arm off and yelled at her for accidentally dropping pizza on the way out of a restaurant once. There was no dad around but I would have anyway.

Man they both handled that situation really badly. That being said I was at a midnight launch as well, waiting in line for an hour when I got to the door they told me I couldn't have my fully paid for game because I didn't "verify" it a few hours earlier and I'd have to wait for everyone that has.

The younger me would of gotten arrested for throttling someone but I just moved on.

I've watched this video like 5 times and I still have no clue what's going on.
Supernerd who hates women and ID checks vs. district manager or what have you who has a near complete lack of professionalism for her type of job.

Basically, supernerd was mad that his preferred ID did not satisfy the store's verification requirements and he went off on a little rant (overreacting as his inital form of ID was a business card or something, he should know that is not appropriate). Then the district manager, instead of being a professional and just letting him walk out with his game after the confrontation, just had to make a short quip/borderline threat about how she should pass out his personal info to everyone in line so they can basically harrass him for acting like such a dick. HUGE mistake on her behalf, even if the supernerd was acting like a dick (and he was). Thing is, he doesn't have to be professional, he's just a customer. Once she handed off the game she should have just dropped it or at least waited until he left the store to comment, and even then passing around personal info of customers is just downright unprofessional. He was on his way out the door anyway, and pretty weird, but eh. She should have never ever done anything to threaten a customer. Just plain dumb.

I love the stories where the person being attacked just drops the attacker like its nothing. Good one man. Also wtf. Why not just go buy the game from a different store.

Her words are a defense mechanism. The customer acting up over such a basic standard procedure can cause her to feel threatened.

A guy giving a woman manager grief over ID policy. Not a pleasant situation for a woman. People deal with stress in different ways. She was being human.

This is like the ultimate white knight post

It's epic fail all around.

Did I miss anything?

Smear some of her attitude all over that. She didn't actually say much wrong except for her "wisecrack" as he leaves, but dat attitude is terrible.

He's clearly unstable, when he headed towards the door I would have probably just looked for the next customer and acted like the confrontation never happened.
