Hey iCade owners.

Metroidvania Lemegeton Master Edition is $0.99, originally $9.99.

Anyone try this game, and is it good? I never heard of it.

Alright so I just played the first two stages of shadow vamp. So far so good. Its fun rotating the stage to move the shadows. The game is responsive. It simple but it's the first time I see this gameplay.

So far (once again just at the third stage) it's not challenging but it has charm. Also given the fact that it's the start of fall seeing vampires reminds me of October. Which means it's time for some fun this year! It's a fun game. I'm already seeing the value at just $0.99. I recommend it and I'll come back with more after I play more stages. Take it easy buddies!

And this one too! Did you get any further?

Cavemania is another one those games ruined by a shitty IAP system.

It's a shame, because its a really fun match 3 game that does a few new things. Has a nice progression system in place, but stupid money walls all over.

Hmmm I know the main dev personally and played some early builds of this but haven't played it in a while (and certainly not the release build just yet). They ended up cutting a deal with a Chinese publisher (Yodo1) which may have had an influence on monetization.

Is there specific feedback I can get back to the devs on this?

I was actually going to create a Toucharcade account to address them, because it bothered me so much.

But basically it comes down to offering the game for 'free', then after 30 levels (10-15 of which are ostensibly tutorial levels with no real challenge) there is a small paywall (.99 cents to unlock 15 more levels or you can give them 3 of your Facebook contacts). But there is no indictation how much the next grouping of levels will cost. Will it be .99 cents again .. or will it be 2.99? There is no way to see. Judging by the map there is a chance for 3 more of these 'checkpoints'. Shitty.

Plus they have certain levels where you need a powerup to '3 star' it. Accumulating cash is so slow that it behooves you to buy gold. Plus they have seperate IAP for trivial things like changing skin color or hair of your little avatar. It's just too much and really rubs you the wrong way.

I'm not a person that is systematically against F2P either. I am usually juggling 2-3 of these titles at any one time and will usually throw dollars their way when I feel like I get a good value out of my playtime.

Sounds like Candy Crush Saga influence.

Happy to pass on your comments.

Yea, that's definitely how the system felt. It's just a bummer to see a good game, done by talented people with some good ideas, ruined in such a crass way.

Anyone here playing Reaper? It's pretty good. The touch controls seem kind of divisive but I think they're pretty fluid and the art style is wonderful. Free to try, then three game unlock tiers (2.99, 3.99, 4.99), each offering more content than the last. No other IAP

I tried using some software to enable Airplay mirroring of my iPhone on my Mac but the picture quality isn't great.
Is HDMI mirroring better?

I quote myself.
Solved the problem the hard way.
Deleted the iPhone app, where I was behind, redownloaded and re started.
Bam...save was there.

Apparently if you have a network glitch the FIRST time you open the game, you are screwed.

IB3 has online save problems? it's like every IB title has problems with online stuff no matter what.

Anyone try this game, and is it good? I never heard of it.

I own it on my Ouya, it's a fun game but movement is very clunky and basic, don't expect amazing movement and animations matching the visuals.

I can't speak for doing it from iPhone but on iPad it works great and does not lag as much by accounts I've heard, but there are some visible effects of the screen output being resized for the target display. It's not a problem for most source material though.

Alright, so just played this for like 30 minutes - pretty awesome!

The early part where you talk to one of the masked guys and you have the option to kill him was interesting - I picked 'Slay' just to see what happened and got like 50g from it. Later on I'm pretty sure I saw his ghost floating around the battlefield, and he gave me 30 more gold for killing him!

Fucking hard to get gold though, anything I killed/break EXPLODES into a shower of shit that I can't catch and I end up losing at least 50% of the stuff most of the time.

Apparently I'm in the minority with IB3 but yes, I had.
And previously in IB1 I lost one char at level 64 and anohter one at level 54....so yeah...Epic iCloud implementation seems not to be the strongest one.
If I understood well, they aren't using iCloud this time, they are using their own servers according to their FAQ.

Anyway I love the game and I'm glad I resolved the problem (just becouse in office I have a very fast 100 Mbit optic fiber...no way I would have done that at home).

Bastion got updated for gamepad upport, god I can't wait for a decent controller. Although, ios version is 30fps right? I wish that for newer hardware they would update it to give the full console experience.

Thanks.
I'm waiting for more games to be compatible with the game controller API and then I'll buy an HDMI adapter to play iOS games on my TV.

I had a save problem with IB3 iniitally, but it's all good now-but there are achievment glitches. Before you play, always make sure to pause, and go to settings and tap GameCenter. Otherwise if you're not logged in, if you unlock an achievement in game, it doesn't count.

Fucking stupid.

I haven't gotten to the end of every Angry Birds but I am totally loving how ABSWII integrates Icebreaker type aspects to the puzzles and physics. Don't know if they've done that sort of thing in previous games, but it really adds an awesome amount.

Love this game.

I'm finding it very difficult to 3 star even some of the early levels-how about yourself?

game is pretty fun.

There doesn't seem to be any defensive moves though, so i guess your progression is tied to your gear?

hmmmm...

I hope we get some nice controllers next month (when i have pay to spend), looking forward to trying games with HDMI out and a controller especially in any racing games and platformers.

I'll just quote myself from yesterday.

Lemegeton?

I'm having a lot of fun with it. Spent an hour playing it this morning and the only fault I could find was the hilariously bad localization. Definitely worth 99 cents. Maybe even worth the original $10 asking price.

Here's the youtube review that sold me on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvVnLZ7Z4h4

iCade support is beautiful. The button layout is 6 button, Saturn controller style with one button locked to jump. The other 5 can be mapped to different weapons and skills.

It's less about being defensive and more about staying on the move. From the trailer and what I've played, it can reach bullet hell level of projectiles on screen so you have stay agile. You can also bounce off the heads of enemies and certain environmental objects. Also blocking is a stat, different gear can increase it

If that hmmm... is because you're worried about IAP, as far as I can tell, the only IAP are the game unlocks. I may be mistaken, but I haven't noticed any other IAP types

Right I know that Real Racing 3 went over some huge changes since I last played it and that they more or less streamlined the entire game to unlock in order instead of freely choosing your next event and cars, so I downloaded it again just to see myself.

Yeah they fucked this game over really bad, you are forced to play it how they want you to play it, for fucks sake EA, I used to really love Firemint but you came along and cocked everything up as usual.

I have worries about Gameloft's GT Racing 2 since they also turned the first game into a freemium after the game releasing as paid back in the day, but there's no way they can butcher it as much as RR3...

God, Hot Springs Story is fantastic. I was bit reluctant to pick it up after the Edo Towns fiasco but hey this is like 1000 times better. Horribly addicting, too. It's just so well placed together. It's as if someone made Theme Park World game into GBA version or something. I just wish the resolution was higher.

yeah, got a good groove and figured some stuff out... but now i can't actually buy the unlock for full game lol. they should get that fixed ;)

Just found out a sequel to Tower of Fortune got released. Liked and finished the first one, and think it got a couple of mentions in the thread chain from other GAFfers.

Haven't downloaded yet, so can't comment on the IAP for those that care about such things, but managed to complete the first game without issue with no purchase.

The first game had a horrible grind for the last section, I remember deciding to just delete it, because it was very tedious. Up to that point it was entertaining though.

Hmmmm when I got up to the last part, I felt I had screwed around too much trying to build up my character as I didn't realise for a while that the boss battles get harder and harder the more you went into each level which created a bit of an arms race. So, yeah, I did a lot of grinding to open up that last section too, but once I got in I finished the game and got all 3 endings pretty quick.

Sounds like I may have read that wrong and it was a steep grind regardless?

I just remember the coins needed to unlock each section getting exponentially higher or at least doubling, and the 2nd to last section took me a long time to accumulate the coins for, then I saw the price for the last part, and was like forget it.

I was losing money or making very little money taking on the higher levels to grind, and it was more efficient to just play the early levels (the free one) over and over and hope for the match that lets you fight for a second prize with punches, and maybe you'd get the good one that pays decent. I think it felt like you needed 100 of those to get the last part unlocked and you only got them like 20% of the time.

Bingo, the only way to make cash was to grind for the Scum family and hope for the mum, who paid out 1000g, grinding low levels for hours just to get access is shit. Sequel looks interesting at least.

I got a 5S on Friday and I'm brand new to iOS/mobile gaming. I'm currently trying to wrap my head around the massive amount games out there and to start with I would like to check out some essential releases.

Clicking through these iOS gaming threads I have mostly seen personal recommendations of niche titles. This is probably where I'll be a year from now but for now I'd like to check out the very biggest/best games that have come out for iOS over the last 6 years.

To start with I have been curious about the Infinity Blade series. Do I have any reason to start with the first one or should I jump right in to number 3?

welcome!

Think it will be better starting from genres you are interested in. Which you should list.

Infinity blade 1 is actually probably the best place to start for that series. The gameplay mechanics hasn't changed much throughout the series, but the 1st one is the most 'pure'.

FIFA has been released and is free. I haven't dug much into it, but the IAP doesn't appear shitty.

I have played about 30 hours of First Touch Soccer 2014. I think it's pretty clearly the superior soccer game. The touch controls and virtual controls just work and the AI offers a good challenge, but isn't unfair. The user interfaces in the team management are really great.

Hmm. I don't really know how to answer. I play all sorts of genres on my consoles/portables. I guess I would say I that I generally tend to avoid racing and sports games .

As far as this thread is concerned I'm interested to hear about the games that are considered iOS/Mobile classics regardless of genre.

If you're into puzzle-y games then you can get the Where's My Water/Cut the Rope franchise of games, which are pretty great, although Where's My Water 2 is apparently a bit scummy.

I'm a big fan of cool runners so Canabalt, Jetpack Joyride and Tiny Wings all tickle my fancy.

If you're into more 'substantial' feeling games, Kingdom Rush, Ghost Trick and Ridiculous Fishing are perfect for a more meaty type game where you'd want to sit on the couch or in bed and play for a couple of hours.

Anyone tried Deer Hunter 2014? as fun as it is you can tell after 5 minutes that it's exactly like other free to play titles, you repeat the same thing again and again, earn small money for doing so, use energy to play and have wait timers for imported gun parts which are required for the later missions.

Also has the terrible gold currency, yeah because hunters carry 20 gold bars in their pocket at all times for that energy drink upgrade.

Originality is lost on these developers.

I guess this
really what I'm looking for. Ghost Trick and Ridiculous Fishing are two of the only mobile games I've played (I have an ancient ancient 3rd gen iPod touch).

Will Kingdom Rush still be fun on an iPhone screen (as opposed ipad)?

Any other suggestions along these lines?

Some of the biggest? hm it's a tricky awnser because a lot of big games have hit the shitter either with poor dev support and/or updates which change and break the game.

Looking at my phone and what I have installed, some of the bigger named titles I find good are:

Shadowgun Deadzone
Asphalt 8
Colin McRae Rally
CSR Racing
Galaxy on Fire 2 HD
Riptide GP 2
Infinity Blade 2
Sonic Dash
Blastron
Megatroid
Sonic the Hedgehog 1 iOS (complete engine remake by Taxman, guy who did Sonic CD 2011)
Golf Star
Plants vs Zombies 2
Repulze
Ravensword: Shadowlands
Modern Combat 4
TopGear Stunt School (this game is old but amazing, ignore the freemium sequel)

So I got a 5s last week and downloaded IB3 to play. The problem is the game keeps crashing during the initial level sequence. Anyone else had this issue, should I just go ahead and redownload it?

ios debugging 101.

1) kill process of app, open it. if that doesn't work
2) restart your device. if that doesn't work.
3) redownload the app.

haven't encountered an app that shit didn't get resolved... well unless it was a huge bug.

Miku Flick/02 is currently crashing on load for me. Judging by reviews for the current version, it's not an isolated problem either.

Awesome, thanks. You guys have given me tons of titles to check out.

General question, would you exclude any of these for the iPhone or are all of these pretty good on either iPhone or iPad?

Dj Max Ray

It's worth checking out for free but I would wait on purchasing content for it; I can see support for it being dropped pretty quickly once DJMAX Technika Q comes out.

As far as full game experiences go: The World Ends With You is definitely up there too.

Yeah I pretty much gave you titles that I enjoyed on iPhone myself. I suppose Clash of Heroes is easier to play on iPad but it's a great game to have on your phone.

Well Technika and Ray are 2 very different games - I don't know if I will enjoy the format as much as the beatmania style of the classic Dj Max.

As to World Ends With You - Yeah I wholeheartedly could recommend it but it's such a love/hate it game it's hard to for such asking price... but yeah, definitely - if someone's into games like this World Ends With You all the way! It's such a hard sell on iOS, and for 16 euro no one would blink an eye for NDS version.
