Just downloaded Pocket Trains as well. Didn't check but I hope it has iCloud saving so I can play between iPad and iPhone.
Also, a whole bunch of Cave Co Ltd games have all received updates. They remove Open Feint, added in iPhone 5 Retina display support and fix up bugs.
I'm in the process of updating. Deathsmiles desperately needed Retina display support. I hope it runs the game in much higher res. it ran in far too low res before.
No problems updating but I get the freeze too when I play.Is Terraria freezing right after pressing play button on iPhone for anyone else? Even updating was f'd up, it didn't want to download for some reason, now the app doesn't work
Have they finally added iCade support?
Yeah. These are arcade ports and already displayed at their original resolutions. Do you want them to redraw all the sprites or something? That isn't mentioned in the update notes.
Also the iPhone 5 Retina Display update still plays the games in the iPhone 3.5 inch screen but just adds colourful borders around the screen.

Who's making the Pocket Trains OT? Can you get a GAF group going in this one?
Why are games asking for access to the microphone on iOS 7?
Three games broke iOS gaming for me because they are head and shoulders above everything else.
- Civilization Revolution
- XCom: Enemy Unknown
- Warhammer Quest
Thanks for the responses! Each of those looks really appealing to me. Here's the killer question: will I be able to fully enjoy them on an iPhone? I don't have an iPad, though I might buy one after the refresh next month.Add Carcassonne, Starbase Orion, Fairway Solitaire, Rayman Jungle Rush, Kingdom Rush and Plants v Zombies to that list and a lot of genres are covered at a very high quality.

Pocket Trains consistently crashes while loading for me. Booooo.

yep its more like 'we want to update the apps but apple requires all updates to be 4" supported so we added some fancy borders!"
If they cared about preserving gameplay balance in their iphone ports of these games, they would not make it possible to move your character around at practically infinite speed. Opening a viewport a bit would mean nothing compared to this.Changing the aspect ratio of the game would have involved basically redesigning the game from scratch. You can't open the viewport in a shooting game without significantly changing all aspects of it, from when enemies appear to bullet patterns having to be rethought based on the increased movement area.

IMO, it would be really easy to do so with these games that scroll continuously. If they were on static screens, then yes, it would require redrawing of everything. However, here, when you get to the end, you just show a bit more space behind you.Besides, something else I neglected to mention, is opening the viewport even an option given the prerendered backgrounds? In a lot of places there simply isn't anything more to see.
NeoGAF! My old pals. I hope I'm not overstepping the boundaries of our friendship here, but I wanted to let you know that I made an app
It's called Pixel This, and it's a picross app for iOS. I realised that most of the picross games on iOS sucked, and are ugly or expensive or filled with ads or make you pay for hints and all that yucky stuff.
So I made a cool one. It's free (there are some IAPs if you want more puzzles), loads of levels, a cool zoom tool on iPhone (you see everything on iPad), a good tutorial, and more.
Please check it out here and let me know what you think!
It's my first ever app, and my first forary into programming. I coded it on an iPad, also, which is pretty cool. Hopefully it's the first of many

Hmmm, just got to a big bug in Pocket Trains after playing for TWO MINUTES.
Level 2 Tutorial tells me to tap the line from Paris to Munich. I tapped elsewhere and I'm left looking at one of my trains. Tutorial wants me to tap the line but the line isn't on screen now. Can't do anything more except quit.
With the endless-running genre ploughing an ever-deepening furrow of mediocrity, Boson X could well be ignored. That would be terrible, because this is a brilliant, twitchy arcade masterpiece that pulsates with originality and heart.
Bleary eyed at half past one I take what I swear will be one final shot at the run, all of my recent attempts having ended in minuscule percentages and early deaths. An hour later I'm still there.
That's how good Boson X is, and why you should pick it up as soon as you can.

Anyone know if Shadowrun is compatible with the iPad 1? (I know, I know)
I've only played a couple levels, but really liking it so far. Controls and smooth and responsive.Awesome! I'll download it tonight
Added SR to the OP:
The complete Shadowrun Returns campaign (12+ hours of gameplay)
Explore a grim cyberpunk future where magic and technology rule the streets
Make every action count in gripping, turn-based tactical combat
Create and customize your character from one of six unique archetypes
Over 350 different weapons, spells and abilities
And my own [mostly PC] impressions. I backed this one on Kickstarter and I'm a life-long Shadowrun fan, from the pen & paper RPG to the classic SNES game. Returns is a very nicely put together 2D turn-based tactical combat single player game with deep story interaction and deep character development. The main gripe of the PC version was it's save system -- which was checkpoints only, with no ability to manually save progression. I'm not sure yet how this has changed for the iOS release, but I think checkpoints and the general save state function will work better on the iOS platform. Don't let the save system keep you from playing a really good game. UI and controls seem to be well adapted to touch too.
It's not. The game is also full of bugs (no In Game music, crashes...)
Thanks for letting me know. Will upgrade one of these years...My three year old uses it more than anyone)
I have a question on something I've never been clear on. How do game saves work on iOS? I have a bunch of stuff I'd like to keep around but I don't really feel like having the app on my phone. Is this stuff backed up somewhere? Or does it disappear as soon as I delete the app?
I'm wondering this too. Thinking of upgrading to the 5S, but I want to know what happens to all the stuff on my old phone.
They sure as hell are not played on a gambling tables in Vegas, so I welcome any kind of change from that BS. Agreed about notifications being too big, you can however slide them up the moment they show up.A little late to the party but...
iOS7 Game Center is trash:
- It's ugly as shit.
- They removed daily/weekly leaderboards.
- The achievement notifications take up 1/4 of the screen.
It's as if the person who designed the app doesn't even know what video games are.
Sure, was looking over previous pages and that looks cool.Add Reaper to the front. A solid sidescrolling action game with a kinda unique touch control scheme with swiping. Got a nice loot aspect and a kinda weirdly dark story. Free to try to lvl 10. $2 for full game with packages up to $5 for extra goodise.
Device backups in iCloud/iTunes retain save games/settings of any apps you keep installed. Saves are removed once the app is removed unless the app has iCloud documents support in which case it will remain in your cloud.I'm wondering this too. Thinking of upgrading to the 5S, but I want to know what happens to all the stuff on my old phone.
Someone remembers! @Cyan, check the FAQ section, question about save game backups.Game saves are deleted if you delete the app, but you can back them up. On the second post of this thread you can find how to do it.
To migrate to a new phone you should be performing a whole-device backup of your current device to either iCloud or iTunes. When you get your new phone, part of the guided setup will prompt you to restore from this backup - which will copy over all your application data (thus, game saves) and then attempt to download the latest copies of your applications from the App Store.
This, of course, assumes no jailbreak funny business, in which case all bets are off.
