Wanted to buy it anyway but you made the deal sound even better.

Yes DX: The Fall is a great and proper pocket-sized version of Deus Ex, well recommended!

Oh and..

Added to OP:

If you like Super Hexagon, Impossible Road or Tilt to Live! then this game is right up your alley.

Couldn't find a trailer for this one, is there any McBacon?

Quick impressions for Pixel This!:

Well, I'm a huge Picross fan, so reading the post by the creator I immediately downloaded it. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed because it feels like this is a pretty basic/beginner picross app. You have 40 5x5 puzzles as 'starters' then you move on to 20 10x10 puzzles with an animal theme. There are, I believe, 4 more 20 10x10 puzzle packs, each with their own theme, but those are IAP. I couldn't check how much they were so I didn't try to buy 'em.

I'm not sure if the creator is thinking of putting in harder puzzles eventually, but with the max size being 10x10, it really isn't much of a challenge to any seasoned Picross player. A few minor annoyances to mention: the marking tool is a bit clunky to switch between that and the chisel tool. Being penalized after 'solving' a row just by going over a square accidentally is bit of a bother, but that doesn't really matter too much unless you are going for a fastest time, because there doesn't seem to be a fail state.

All in all, I am left a bit saddened, even though I didn't really invest anything seeing as it was a completely free app, the aesthetic and design of the overall app is very nice and if there were some harder puzzles, the rest of the issues could really be cast aside.

Wanting to try a soccer game, I know that First Touch is well received. I see a regular one that is $5, and '14 is free. Are there any major differences or any reason to go for one over the other?

Or something else altogether? FIFA, etc

FIFA for me but that's also because I only play Ultimate Team and it's free for that so it works for me.

Anyway, awesome app. My only nitpick would be that it needs larger grids (is 10x10 the max?), and you need to show the price for the IAP!!! I was ready to buy, and clicked the button but saw no indication of how much it was going to cost, so I had to back out.

From the app store page the packs seem to be $0.99 each.

Anyone else playing First Touch Soccer 14? It's really frustrating that the game forces you to only play as really shitty teams with players who can't run or shoot.

I've played a dozen or so games and now every two games I get an offer to manage a new team, so I have no idea if I'm progressing or just restarting my progress.

I just want to play an exhibition game with good teams :(

On the Japanese side of things, jubeat plus and REFLEC BEAT plus just got major updates: jubeat got a new feature that allows users to create their own charts, and even play their charts on the arcade machine. REFLEC BEAT received the long-awaited limelight theme, adds new sorting options to song selection, increases the just reflec gauge from three steps to five, and allows you to resize the note objects. Hopefully these updates will hit the international versions soon!

Thanks for putting it on the list! No trailer, I'm afraid. As much fun as picross is, it's quite hard to make a thrilling video from it.

Thanks again for checking the game out, guys. I had a really good first day for downloads and am hard at work on my next game!

That's indeed a bit annoying. Also just found a train that requires 12 parts.

I've got 3 parts of that so far. I don't think I'm ever going to get it... at least without paying or playing for aaaages. And even then, just getting random parts there's no guarantee to get what you want.

I've not been able to build a whole train in a while and I'm actually waiting on a new train. I have about 7/8 different trains to complete now. It's a slow process.

I'm still having a blast with it though. I think? your trains are more likely to get a repair problem if the fuel is low and your pushing them. At least it seems the case.

I'm slowly edging towards lvl 9 now with just over 30k in coins. I have 6 trains routes. Expanding across the continents is costly. Buying a license alone is 50k. I've got the majority of Europe covered now.

I had a rough go at first, but used my money to hire coaches and then pump all my stats into my attacker. Then used him to score all my goals.

Don't keep switching teams. You will only be making lateral moves at best. It's not until you can afford to hire a new agent that you will be able to coach in better leagues with more skilled players.

I'm in the English Premier and its much harder because the AI is a lot better at intercepting.

Rage is gone??! Nnnnooooooooooooooo. Definitely one of my iOS favorites. I just don't always have it installed cause it's quite big.

Anyone having trouble with Clash of Heroes and iOS7? It crashes right before loading a saved game, both in my iPhone 5 and iPad2 :|

It's great to hear FTL is coming to iOS. I've always been interested in the game but I never bought even when it goes on sale. I'll wait for it to release to play.

By the way I didn't know puzzle and dragon was out. I always looked it up on the store. Has it been out for a long time now? Am I just making a fool out of myself by asking this question? Anyway, playing the game right now. Gotta see what the big deal is.

New Star Soccer is the best football game on iOS by an absolute fucking mile.

It's not exactly the same as FIFA or First Touch or anything, but is all the better for it. It was designed to take advantage of iOS rather than being shoehorned onto it.

As in puzzle and dragons on European store? Because it's been on the American one for a while now. Still waiting for the eu release.

I swore I wouldn't get into Pocket Trains-after Pocket Planes became so fucking tedious after 2 weeks. But I did download it.

Sigh...

i'm surprised by the lack of Shadowrun ios talk, i thought it was a big deal release. Any impressions? Do they plan to fix the bug where music isn't played? Should i just wait for the pc version on a steam sale?

Being able to clear cargo out of the cargo hold at your cities without penalty saved Pocket Trains for me. Back to conquering Europe with my empire. I like the daily event challenges too. Good way to earn money.

I've very much enjoyed my time on Pocket Trains but I think I'm done. I've taken over the whole of Europe and grinded to lvl 11. It's quite a task juggling all the different lines and there's no real incentive to play any further. Getting pieces for the faster trains is almost impossible. I still only have 4/12 parts for one train. The odds of getting a piece for these seems to be low and I'm just forever getting steamer parts (the new update might up the crates you can get but still not the parts you want). Also the fact there's no team play and lacks some of the features of Planes means it's longetivity is reduced somewhat. I did like it, enough to give some hard earned pennies to Nimblebit, who have made some really great, addictive games.

Patch has been submitted.

Haven't dived in to it yet properly (being my 2nd time through), trying to finish off GTA 5! :D

With all the recent talk of the IAP and F2P mechanics of Where’s My Water 2 and Pocket Trains, it made me think whether or not there would be potential for a resurgence of arcade games using a F2P model and whether or not people would be open to them.

Essentially, the games would be play exactly the same as an arcade game. Designed to be able to cleared in 1 credit (1CC) and take around 30 to 45 minutes for a full run. It would be free to play but players will need to use credits which replenish every hour to a cap of 3. IAP could be something like 99c for 10 credits and $2.99 for 50 and the credits do not expire. You can pay a premium of something like 5.99 (like a Cave game) to unlock unlimited credits with no restrictions. There wouldn’t be any other IAP.

Essentially players will be rewarded if they are skilled. Casual players can use the three credits to credit feed as far as they can. They can pay a buck which will probably be enough to credit feed to the end and see all the ‘content’. Other players can use their credits to play every now and then and eventually 1CC it. Unlimited credits could even unlock if they 1CC it. People who don’t want to deal with all this can just buy the game outright using the one off IAP. They could get score attack modes as well.

It is worth noting that these games have to be extremely hard so people don’t finish them quickly and move on. But at the same time, they have to be fair so people continue playing it. Just imagine the Cave games; no filler, snappy controls and highly polished etc. The idea is that people can try every arcade game and judge for themselves. Eventually, they will gravitate towards the better ones with more people buying credits and full unlocks. Which in turn, encourages developers to make better games to keep people playing. Just like the arcade environment back in the day.

Considering how controversial IAP implementation is these days, I’m sure this idea is going to very divisive. But I’m wonder whether the casual market would be open to it and more importantly, what core gamers like you guys think of it. Personally, I’m all for it as I do miss the arcade environment and feel that the mobile market has potential to bring it back again.

I been trying iFunbox for game saves an it works well just kind of hate I have to start my laptop to do it. Anyone know why iCloud game saves are not implemented in more games?

When iCloud game saves first came out I thought most games would start using and eventually I could delete games then restore them easily, but that has not happened. Apple should at least have an easier way to backup game saves in their iOS or at least let someone make an App that just let's you backup and restore game saves easier.

Fundamentally, I'm opposed to anything that makes you choose between your money and your time.

However there are already games employing this model such as the F2P fighters like Tekken. I imagine we will see more of it.

Been busy away from gaming this weekend so far but Deus Ex iOS is rather amazing for the first hour or two I have played, really want to see iOS controller support on that game.

Touch Arcade did a story on this about this a while back-the developers claim it's very difficult and time consuming to pull off properly.

Yes. iCloud presents both design and technical challenges, so for a lot of developers it is just added work without necessarily a short term benefit.

I think this is happening naturally. A lot of f2p games are already *quite difficult*, I presume to encourage folks to pay to win. Plants vs. Zombies 2 started kicking my ass in a hurry.

How beautifully ironic if f2p is what resurrected challenging hardcore gaming, which has mostly languished in the mainstream console gaming realm.

This pretty much sums up my experience as well. I'm also a huge picross fan and I was able to complete all 60 free puzzles very quickly (over an afternoon in between taking calls at work). I would have liked to see some 15x15 puzzles at the very least - I think my longest time on a 10x10 was about 2 minutes, so even another 20 puzzles of that size wouldn't give me more than an hour's worth of playtime.

That said, I also do love the look of the app and feel, and definitely would like to see where it heads in the future.

There's a difference between challenging hardcore gameplay, and unfair gameplay. Most f2p titles lean toward the latter.

well most require near zero skill because the games aren't designed around that, like modern slots.

I do enjoy stuff like the newer zenonias actually because of the F2P 'difficulty'. Makes bosses more engaging when you die in 2 hits.

Yeah, I'm not sure how long I will stick with it largely due to the fact that it's becoming so difficult to replace my older trains and then on top of that, the speed of the new ones just means they run out of fuel that much quicker. Getting an extra fuel car or engine takes forever and a day due to the randomness of the parts. Very frustrating.

I am about to hit level 11 as well.. here is my current map:

I don't think I'll ever be able to use all my crates at this point. I've bought the Africa license and will likely buy Asia next.

I really like Trains, but I'm getting discouraged by all the posts re-affirming what I've been anticipating: that F2P wall. I haven't hit it yet, but knowing it's there kills my desire to keep playing. I don't mind spending a few bucks here and there, but so many of these games are designed to endlessly drain funds from your wallets, which makes me feel like any IAP would ultimately be a waste. Behind the paywall is another paywall, and behind that another, etc etc. Fuck that, I'll just play some Bejeweled instead.

Yeah, it's a bit disappointed.. and I even resorted to "clock" cheating to build up more bux.. as the game has a really basic check to time cheating. Even doing that it takes a lot of time to build up enough bux to buy crates.. and with so many different trains and some taking so many parts to make one piece of them.. it's sorta disappointing how few bux really come out.

The bux train loads are few and far between, and sometimes the gas to get them across the map isn't worth the hassle (or time).. and the trains re-fuel so super slow that you tend to spend a lot of bux just re-fueling trains.. if bux was for crates and you could re-fuel with in game money it'd be SO much better.

I quit PP when it just became too much hassle, and honestly the theme wasn't up my alley.. trains are much more fun to play with.. but this seems to be missing some of the fun stuff about Planes.. and the paywall slams you in the face... something that never happened with Tiny Tower (it just became a time sink of waiting.. but you never "needed bux").

Shame, as better balance would make the game more fun... and having no way to sell trains you don't want/need that keep popping up in crates sucks.. I don't need anymore red/blue/green/white trains.. they suck.. and I'm running 8 trains now.. but honestly with the map layout it almost seems to make more sense to run 12 car engines and fewer of them to cover the map.

Holy crap, you've got a lot of unopened crates!

Probably all Vanilla Steamers lol.

I'd have liked to have kept playing but it got a bit tedious with all the different lines to manage and getting the train parts I wanted was an impossible task so my enthusiasm died to continue.

This was my map routes:

Did you buy bux? Because getting crates is easy, getting bux to open them and refuel trains is tedious.

me too. Perfect game for downtimes at work but don't wanna start something else that can pull you away from getting back to work.

I feel like i'm barely making any money though... think my route is all fucked up :(

will unlock the biggest tier of planes soon and I'm not sure if I want them. They surely aren't gonna be too green on fuel usage.

Geez, maybe it's just me and my taste in games but mobile gaming has been in a real funk as of late. I haven't really dug into a game for any real length since PvZ2, and who knows how long before that.

Rymdkapsel was pretty good, but the game is an hour long. Small World 2 is great, but the online turn timer is 48 hours max which makes it tough to actually complete a game.

Hoping for some kind of holiday rush of releases. Some of the previews I've been seeing on Pocket Tactics look promising. Going to grab Boson X and see if it hooks me in.

Sorry, this will be the last time I use NeoGAF as a Tumblr account.
