Gardiner has been one of our best defencemen is Carlyle fucking smoking crack? How has Gunnarson or Fraser been better then Gardiner? And you want to call him out?? What a fucking tool!

Lundqvist looks like shit.

I'm hoping this is like what happened last season where he played like shit for the first two weeks (which happened to be in the regular season since there was no preseason) and then ended up a Vezina finalist.

Seeing a lot of the same frustrating things over and over again.

There really hasn't been a lot positive in this preseason. A handful of players. But saying that Henrik's play this preseason is worrisome would be a huge understatement.

I feel like Conor Allen has been the best defenseman outside of the top 6 (and probably better than MDZ, for that matter). Too bad his cap hit is too stupidly big to justify keeping him on as a 7th or 8th D-man. Not sure what Sather was thinking with that contract.

EDIT: I've been waiting to see Kreider get one of those plays. Quick is too good for that, though.

Nash is back to his spinning-around-and-backing-up-to-the-net bullshit. Just go to the net, big guy, what are you so scared of?

Don't send Mashinter to the penalty box, just put him on a flight to Hartford.

EDIT: LOL at Nash and Richards as a penalty killing unit. And what do you know, they got it done.

Hank just looks lost. He hasn't looked comfortable on ANY shot in this game. I don't know if he's tired from the travel or what, but I think Marty is going to get to play the 3rd again.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Gardiner has a two-way contract and is "not playing to standards". Sounds like an excuse to send him down for cap reasons and not have the media bother him.

I haven't seen him look like this...ever. Preseason or not.

I like that Ekblad kid though...

But all the Leafs fans on HFBoards are telling me we don't have any cap issues.

I do feel like that was a pretty good period, though, for the most part. Still no finishing, but at least they are playing against probably the best/most consistent goalie in the league not named Lundqvist, which is a little more respectable than getting owned by Jason LaBarbera and Karri Ramo.

Lundqvist has looked MUCH better ever since he made that double save on the breakaway late in the second. Maybe he just needed that big moment to get his mojo back. Here's hoping.

So guys who seem to be locks to make the Rangers' opening roster are:

Rick Nash
Brad Richards
Derek Stepan
Derick Brassard
Benoit Pouliot
Taylor Pyatt
Mats Zuccarello
Dominic Moore
Darroll Powe
JT Miller
Ryan Callahan
Carl Hagelin (may be LTIR)

Ryan McDonagh
Dan Girardi
Marc Staal
Michael Del Zotto
John Moore
Anton Stralman

Henrik Lundqvist
Martin Biron

That leaves 3, maybe 4 spots (depending on whether Hagelin goes on LTIR or not) up for grabs. The obvious names missing from the forwards are Brian Boyle, Arron Asham, and Chris Kreider. Two of them make it and one doesn't. Just on the outside looking in and ready for callups would be Hrivik and Fast, Lindberg to a slightly lesser extent. On the D, Justin Falk is probably making the team, though I think if cap space wasn't an issue Conor Allen might deserve the spot more based on preseason performance.
