RUMOUR: Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts is 720p, PS4 version is 1080p?

Man these threads crack me up. Well done on the Nickelback gif.

I'm not going to convince anyone differently, but it's funny how people interpret the tweet as confirmation.

First - I don't know the resolution. I don't have more sophisticated tools than anyone else. I watch the game on a nice TV with the XBO set to 1080p for every game, there is no way for me to know what's native vs. upscaled unless I'm told.

Second, if I did know, it wouldn't be my place to say anything.

If the Ryse footage last week showed me anything, it's that you get a much more interesting discussion when you're looking at real footage.

So now I've seen the PS4 footage, and I've seen XBO running live. To me, they both look great.

The resolution will be what it will be. It will be known when Activision wants it to be known. The only thing I was curious about was if the games look different, and based on the assets available to me, they don't.

So I think when XBO footage comes out, and people can compare resolutions, effects, framerate and other things the debate will be more interesting.

All that doesn't come across in Twitter-sized bites.

Brace yourself.

think it is a play on his last tweet. Some people diss Nickelback without hearing them live ( i guess ), so he is saying go watch them live then judge.

Aka see Call of Duty live and then judge the X1 version. Aka low resolution confirmed, but still looks good in his opinion.

That will be the X1 mantra this gen I think. We can't do true 1080p in 2013, but atleast our games still look good!

Anyone find it amazing in about 3 years we will be PC gaming @ 4K at reasonable prices ( sub X1 prices ) and the X1 will be struggling along at 720-900p? .....

Wait, no. What. I don't think he is doing anything to help out his cause here by saying he actually enjoys listening to Nickelback.

Ok, so it's 720p.

There's no way in hell that you saw it running and couldn't tell the resolution. And you know that seeing the game running vs watching videos online isn't in the same league.

The upscaler you put in is very good, I'm sure. Also, don't send anyone out to kill me. Thanks.

If you want 1080p so bad, you know you can buy ps4 and actually play them native and not upscaled tricks

Honestly I have a hard time believing that a game as ugly as COD: Ghosts would not be able to hit 1080P on Xbone. There are a lot of factors to the development of the hardware, however, that might have prevented third parties from being able to use the maximum hardware potential for launch games. Probably an effect of the ESRAM fiasco a while back. Also, Activision's old as bones game engine. Would really make me go, "wow, something went wrong" if true.

720p upscaled vs 1080p native should be pretty obvious on a large 1080p TV...?

If someone has seen both running, then it should be readily apparent if they are at different resolutions.

How can someone who loves the flash be do wrong? :(

How can be good grammar with?

I joke of course. My last few posts are riddled with misspellings and grammatical errors. For some reason when I mean to write "now" I keep writing "know".

But to answer your question. I'm not the Flash you want. I'm not even the Flash you deserve. I'm the Flash your stuck with until you finally have to go to a nursing home. I certainly didn't want it to be this way, but crap happens.

Dude, Xbox One's hardware is weaker than PS4's. PS4 is designed to perfectly handle Native 1080p games, unlike Xbox One. These are well known facts.

While Xbox One can push graphics in Native 1080p, they would have to make some compromises to get there. The reason why Native 1080p on Xbox One will be more of a struggle for games is because you only have 32MB of eSRAM (?) that is fast enough for a framebuffer (except for many games it won't only be used for that) in conjunction with 16 ROPs.

We're already seeing compromises because of that (Ryse at 900p, KI at 720p). Forza 5 is managing 1080p, but only because it has no AA solution or any dynamic lighting engine.

Generalising this makes no sense because not all games run on the same engine!

While this may be the case for some games, we are talking about cod:ghosts here using a modified quake 3 engine.

Plus history has shown us that launch games are not a good measure for a systems performance.

So saying the X1 can only do cod:ghost engine 720p@60fps for the rest of its life just seems plain illogical.

Hmm... Alright, this got pretty big, but I'll still wait for confirmation. Be it from devs, or DF.

I disagree so whole-heartedly.

What's with everyone thinking your average consumer is fucking retarded these days? We live in a crazy information age and money is tight. Most people at least semi-research a product before they drop 60 bones on it.

And if you look at your average CoD gamer, I can guarantee you they talk about the game to others and shoot the shit and news like this will definitely be brought up.

This!

I bet this rumor is wrong. The X1 version is probably poorly optimized and runs poorly but at the same framerate as the ps4 version. I think down the line the X1 will be just fine.

I'm just happy that I don't have to deal with shitty ps3 versions of third party games anymore as PlayStation is typically my console of choice. I'll probably keep my X1 , Wii U just for exclusives and everything else PS4. Last gen 360/PC was my go to earlier on with my PS3 being my Sony box.

So if you don't know the resolution why comment on this rumor at all? You did nothing to clarify nor debunk the rumor.

Normally I would think the broader COD fan base wouldn't care about this and it won't matter. However a couple of factors tell me this could be an issue.

One - the numbers themselves. No one know or cares much about the difference between 660p or 900p etc. But there are two numbers that have been hammered into consumers' minds over the last 6-7 years: 720 and 1080. People know what those mean and they know 1080 > 720. Many may not care but they can easily grasp the difference.

Two - this is a multiplatform game AT LAUNCH. Perhaps the biggest multiplatform game out there. Comparing games between the consoles happens more intensely at launch time than later in the life cycle.

These two factors will converge to drive conversation among more casual gamers that could have a really negative impact on the XB1, in my opinion.
