I think a lot of us owned an OG Xbox, or at least bought a 360 initially. 360 was awesome. Loved that console, it treated me well when PS3 was too over-priced, and had third party games that weren't as good on it (because of the consoles design choices). I started to lose faith in the MS brand half way into 360's life cycle. It started to become apparent that they were more focused on the social media/entertainment side of things, and I just lost interest in their repeat franchises.

I feel like the decisions MS have made with X1 only reaffirms what I felt 5 years ago and why I switched back to PS3 to ride out this current gen, and am going with PS4 for next gen.

God damn. You know, I'm seriously thinking of just doing some research and trying to build a HTPC or just waiting for a Steam Box. I'll get a PS4 for that new hardware fix, but I'm thinking my money would be better invested in building a PC or waiting for a Steam Box. I have a mid-range gaming laptop right now, but it's going to be outclassed in about three or four weeks. It's been what? Seven/eight years since the last consoles launched? If I'm dropping $400 to $500 on a new console and the games are running in 720p what's the point? At the bare fucking minimum games should at least run at the resolution of a mid-range PC game these days.

I really, really don't want to be playing Titanfall in 2014 at 720p. That's the only game that is really making me want an Xbox One in the near future. The whole Xbox One roll out is going to be studied for years on end on how not to sink a brand. When I think about it, looking back I'm even more angry at the TV TV TV TV TV TV TV reveal. How do you fuck this up so bad? Shit, I'm a 360 fan. What the fuck is wrong with you MS?

JESUS CHRIST!!! An editor for a major, credible site is spreading bullshit rumors on GAF.

Not really a surprise, if you've followed him over the years.

Ok guys, slow your roll.

This is just great. So I can either have the games I like (Halo, Forza, Killer Instinct) or the more powerful system that is $100 cheaper.

I prefer the XBOX

- Controller
- Games (titles, not resolutions)
- XBOX Live
- OS

I prefer the PS

- Graphics Capabilities
- Price

This is why the XBOX division has disappointed so many since E3. Never before has XBOX been weaker than the competition. So now I have to either join the ecosystem I like less to get better multiplats or I can stay in the ecosystem I prefer and deal with the fact that I'll be playing all my shit at a lower resolution.

This is the most diplomatic I can make my mini meltdown. In my head there is a lot more cursing.

I wouldn't write off the controller if that's your issue - everyone including many long time Xbox fans are singing nothing but praises for the Dual Shock 4. A few Xbox fanboys even said they were jumping ship from Xbox 360 preference controller to Dual Shock 4 preference.

I haven't played it yet so I can't speak to it, but it may just be that you finally have a PlayStation controller that isn't markedly inferior to the competition.

yup. NeoGAF massacred the PS3 in the first two years. As soon as that price was announced, dark skies formed around Sony's head. Plus there was a delay, the arrogant PR. Oh, Sony got straight reamed.

I'd say it was even worse on this topic. After all, the PS3 was a year later and supposed to be far more powerful. GAF as a whole didn't cut it any slack.

This actually reads like a textbook astroturfer response. Not saying you are one, just pointing out the irony. It's quite humorous. Heh.
If I take photos of all my consoles and handhelds, my PS4 preorders. Will you give me a 100 bucks for it?

Indeed. Xbox and first half of 360 was an amazing time for gaming. Felt like gaming was the focus. But not anymore. It's really disappointing.

This might be the longest thread I've ever read on any forum, from first post to now. That's a lot of posts.

Thank you all for the entertainment. The gifs, the jokes. And thank you to all of the insiders who risk their careers to give us this info. I love how passionate this community is. Gives me a fire in my belly!

After witnessing this crazy thread I thorght I would see if 720p vs 1080p makes a diference on my tv.

I have my PC hooked up to my 40''1080p tv which I am sat about 8foot from, and when comparing 720p + 1080p screenshots of ryse I could not see any difference at all.

with this cod shot

I was surprised by how much the difference seemed less then when viewing on my 21'' 1650x1050 pc monitor from about 1-2 ft away.On my 40'' its only when the gif changes, and its not so much because of the quality but rather i'am just noticing the pixels moving.

but even though it is a really small difference i have been brainwashed to think 1080p is a big difference and is something I need.

1080p benefit is only noticeable if you have like a 60inch tv and are sitting 8ft from it. On a 50inch tv sitting 8 ft away I cant imagine the benefit of 1080p really being that noticeable.

Now we have people completely abandoning the Xbox One because of this? This keeps delivering.
Makes sense. This is more than one game. This thread wouldn't be as big as it is if this didn't have bigger ramifications.

You can mock Infinity Ward all you want, but you can't solely place the blame on them. Sure, Ghosts isn't some magnificent showcase, but aren't you a bit concerned there's already this big of a disparity?

I'm not quite there yet Shinobi, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that it's giving me some pause.

If finances were unlimited, it would be no issue. For now thought, taking care of my wife and son, I cant splurge a grand right now.

Completely unrelated to what I said. Console power has never determined the sales leader for a generation, especially early on. The PSone, the PS2 and the Wii were all demonstrably less capable pieces of hardware than their direct competitors, but it was the library and the marketing behind them that mattered. The vast majority of the consumer base, the people who make COD the megahit it is and who will flock to one system or the other to put it over the top sales-wise, wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you held a gun to their head.

It only matters to hardcore enthusiasts like the people who post here and the console warrior subset of said hardcore enthusiasts. It's a pretty big thing (if true) as far as that goes, yes, but there are a lot of posts treating it as though it's some kind of silver bullet to the heart of the Xbone and that's simply not the case.

If you want to be pedantic about it; Generally of the first 2 released, the more powerful of those 2 ussually won. SNES > Genesis. PS1 > Saturn. PS2 > DC. 360 > Ps3 * (multi-plats it was true all gen). NES was even competeing with the sega SG-1000 in japan and in fact NES > SG-1000.

The idea the most powerful never won is because often the most powerful entries came late in the game when the incumbent had too broad of an install base to ignore. But we aren't at that point. It's not 10m XB1 vs a new PS4. The arguement ignores the entire context of why. When they go head to head like the list above it tends to favor the most powerful system at a decent price point.

On my Panasonic Smart Viera 47" from 6-7 feet away I can easily see the difference.

While playing games anyway. This picture isn't that good of a comparison.

Yup. The only difference now is NeoGAF is way bigger. It's only natural every reaction would be amplified.

The "GAF hates ____" crowd are really insecure. GAF does not hate anything inherently. It just wants the best it can reasonably get for their dollar.

I felt that way, still do a bit, but not as much.

Controller? Not sure anymore, seems like the DS4 is pretty nice, haven't tried either one yet.

Games? Used to love Halo, hated Halo 4, the recent Gears, the recent Fable.

So I tilted to Sony this gen so far. I totally sympathize though, not completely sold to either side at this point.

I always find the "preference" arguments always have a tinge of fanboyism as all objective metrics are dominated by the competitor. I'm not doubting the role of "games" in decision making -- not at all -- but I do doubt that they make the difference that so many claim. I'm sure any reasonable person would find some redeeming qualities in the controller, OS, online service, and Sony's first party. And maybe one should reevaluate how flexible such preferences are.

I really don't understand how Microsoft could build a tablet as amazing as the Surface 2(seriously, it's amazing) and seemingly fail so hard at making a console that actually works? I think a lot of this is just fluff. This just seems unreal that Microsoft could fail so hard.

MS is huge. Many many departments. Gaming is very separate from Windows.

I agree. Xbox 360 used to be the preferred console among my peers, but later on the OS and the whole Xbox Live Gold shebang became a bit too obnoxious for most of us. Sony's amazing PS+ service reared its head, and most of us jumped ship.

It's just funny how the power has shifted. Microsoft dominated this generation early on, while Sony played catch up and ended up winning the last half of it. With PS4, the march goes on.

Funny thing is..He gets it! I mean fk obfuscating...at least stay silent if you can't reveal the truth. And I think MS is is in a position where they can't reveal the truth. Lying now is only going to make it worse in the long run.

In hindsight I'm glad they didn't name it Xbox 720..would have been an even bigger mess

This has to be the first time CBOAT has every directly responded Albert right? Shit is getting syrio now.

You're speaking my language. I've been with MS since the start of their console adventure, but I'm jumping off now until they figure things out and steer the ship back to gaming. If they don't want to, or see the money in customers who aren't in it for the gaming, so be it. I'm glad to have other companies to take my gaming dollars to.
