Adam Boyes Confirms: Call of Duty: Ghosts is Native 1080p on PS4

On the last Giant Bombcast, weren't they talking about copyright issues and how for some videos in the future they may not be able to monetize them on YouTube? Could this be a large video game company saying that you can no longer monetize YouTube videos with footage of their games? That seems like a more likely way to jeopardize Adam's liveliehood (as he would no longer make money from his videos on YouTube) than not being able to directly capture footage of launch games on one Platform.

They were referring to the total biscuit situation where he had a unfavorable review taken down because devs made a copyright claim

Agreed, friend. 900p cuts my eyes.

You can't compare Killzone to BF now haha

900p will look absolutely fine on the Ps4. Resolutions don't speak the whole truth, just imagine the differences in details, textures etc...that Ps4 will have over the X1. Again, what BF4 is doing in mp is a lot more demanding then other titles.

wish Cboat would prove it. Cboat has been wrong so many times i do not understand how anyone can trust him.

How would a company benefit from restricting someone like Sess from monetizing footage of their game via something like a review?

helped a brotha out on multiple separate occasions!
So Sony's doing something that would not allow Sessler/other journalists to monetize PS4 footage? I'm sorry, confused by this.

Kevin Dent posted this a few hours ago:

Coverage and video:

I am 100% sure that Microsoft will get a ton more coverage than Sony. There is no conspiracy theory here, the simple truth is that Sony are providing one debug unit to one video outlet in North America (I don’t know about the rest of the world) and only a select few “wordy/written/text” based outlets.

And before the question is asked, I don’t actually know why Sony doesn’t want established video outlets to have access to video footage of their console before or after launch. It has never been done before.

In my mind this is a huge mistake and I seriously doubt that, that decision was made in SCEA, but rather at the HQ in Japan. The folks over there need to settle down and have a box of juice or something, because as someone that develops games, I want to get in front of as many eyeballs as possible.

I don’t know the reason behind this, but I do know that it is like giving Xbox a free advertisement on every 3rd party game review until Sony completes their inevitable…../Drum Roll 180.

The other reason behind this is that until Sony allows video capture with unrestricted HDCP, reviewers won’t actually be able to review third party games on the PS4 as they will want to do post production.

That said, Sony are not stupid, they have already said that they will remove the HDCP restrictions –to paraphrase “We get it, you want this and we will resolve this issue after launch”.

In the meantime, any blogger, youtuber or video reviewer will be able to slap an Elgato capture card on their Xbox One and do their reviews on the Xbox SKU.

Hence, free ad’s

I really, really hope Sony HQ comes to their senses on this, because this was just stupid on their part and I know a LOT of SCEA guys who are frustrated.

On the flip side with the Xbox you can capture from day one.

Actually you can capture on both devices on day one, but if you want to do post production i.e. voiceover or edits –as most journo’s need to do, hence the video element of the review- you have to use the Xbox.

It's either that or monetization issues like others are suggesting.

What am I missing? Why all the Sessler hate. It sounds like he's worried about potentially losing his source of income to feed his family. He said he reached out to try to straighten things out but he got the cold shoulder.

If I had to look at my wife and kid and say "Honey, I think my small business just failed and we may end up without a paycheck" that would be serious to me.

Apparently, unlike some other GAF members around here, I wasn't living a pipe dream. 900p for BF4 is one of the most predictable things I've seen in a long time. I could've told you this 5 months ago. Anyone closely following news about BF4 on next-gen already knew this.

In fact, I'm glad it's 900p/60, and not 720p/60 like the very first initial rumor about BF4 on next-gen.

Seriously

But bf4 is the one game that has doubt so deeply ingrained in me that I wont believe anything until I see it for myself on my tv through my ps4

Sensible post is sensible.

That's what it seems like.

Possible, but it shouldn't matter as long as Xbox isn't stopping them.

I mean, that means all reviewers can simply do their reviews using XB1 video capture for multiplats. All they lose out are views for Sony 1st-party exclusives. That's what? 10% of their revenue at best?

The only ones whom not having a PS4 footage of the game are the type of guys who make their living of comparison videos... which is an extremely small subset of the industry, and I'm sure DF will have a debug kit to do that.

For them to be this disraught sounds more like a 3rd-party publisher rather than a console manufacturer. Because unlike Nintendo's platforms where many games aren't cross-platform, PS4 and XB1 share 95% the same library.

Maybe its something to do with youtube and copyright (random guess) because if he is getting that worked up about HDCP then dude has problems.

He does not (this is of course my guess). But I feel like this is case of Gaf being Gaf. Why in the world would Sessler want to change profession because PS4 does not allow him to capture video footage the way he wants to. He would simply use Xbone. Which means that his tweets are about something else. Some thing more dire. Like others have suggested here, it might have something to do with youtube monetization.

Gies posts purposefully cryptic tweets like a tosser, then complains that Gaf is being Gaf.

He fucking started it lol. Next time maybe he'll use his brain and shut the fuck up?

I'm willing to make a serious wager that new policies are going to force game journalists to abide by pre-existing fair use standars that most have been ignoring

All this Twitter drama was over video capture headaches?!?!
Goddamn. Are you kidding me?

They seem to be of legal nature rather than technical. And whatever it is, it's not pretty and maybe related to CBOAT's super secret megaton leak.

re: Sessler. Surely what he's harping on about has to be worse than not being able to show PS4 footage right? For multiplat's can he not just use the X1 or even a PC?

I think the problem isn't that there are no workarounds. The problem is that at least one other outlet will have the raw video to work with while his does not, putting him at an immediate competitive disadvantage.

Which video ps4 game video review are you going to watch if you just google up some reviews, the one with ps4 footage or the one without?

It's gotta be a legal thing at this point. Adam Sessler doesn't seem like he's whining just to whine. He seems legit worried.

I did that and it's not a great comparison. It was done quickly to give an idea of what scaling does. I would need to render a PC game at 900p and upscale it to make it proper.
but you downscaled then upscaled, it's not the same. And there's a difference between them, though I'm sitting right on front of my PC monitor.
And here's the follow-up I promised:

Which is all fair, but why tease/vent about it on twitter?

I'd think you either sort it out behind closed doors, or you blow it up and say "world, this is the issue..."

If it is a crackdown on youtube money, then this only makes sense. It is hard to believe game companies haven't looked at youtube and twitch and wanted to get their own piece of the pie. If EA can make Origin they can make their own controlled streaming service too.

Well, as I said, I don't think limiting pre-release footage for a bit would be that bad. But if this is some copyright type of thing that relates to monetization and running ads, then yes, this is a big issue and I understand Sessler's reaction. Obviously this is just people speculating, but that would be worth someone getting upset in the game coverage biz. Hopefully that's not what's happening, as I would be really upset at a company that makes that call as I watch a lot of video content, and not everyone has the time to do that for free.

But he's not self-employed.

He works for Revision 3/Discovery.

He still needs capture footage to do most of his job though, but I doubt he's lost all source of income because of this.

Here's 900p vs. 1080p before you get too upset:

That 900p that you posted wasn't that representative of how it would look. Scaling down and back up in photoshop defaults to bi-cubic sampling.

This one is a better fit. I took the 1080p pic and then resized it with the "nearest neighbor" setting to properly show proper upscaling.

Are you saying the machine that reviewers are receiving didn't the 1.5 patch... so how they will play the MP part of the game?

Or the reviewers machines have some custom features?
Adding voice overs, logos, watermarks, music, etc. Or, at least, that's what I got out of it. You could rip the video from twitch.

God, Gies is such a dick. If Gaf is such a circle jerk, why does he mention us every 3rd tweet?

Gies gonna Gies. Tired of seeing his tweets, tbh.

Epic thread. Didn't expect to see Cboat so soon.

Can't just Sony send as many devkits as possible to reviewers? They're already doing that with indies so it can't be that difficult.

He said it's because the people he's upset with aren't listening. I think he's hoping they'll respond if he makes some noise.

And here's the follow-up I promised:

Honestly pictures are just not very good representations. The differences are much much clearer in motion. Would be awesome if you could do a video comparison... just sayin'.

Edit: Man are you running this on Ultra? I can only notice big aliasing differences in the top right corner.
