Batman: AA/AC Steam Patch Live. Mac Version, Achievements, and GFWL/Securom removal

Before the patch, Arkham City dominated my rarest achievements. Now...

I'm now ready for Arkham Origins tonight!

I'm in a similar situation, but even fewer people are playing Bioshock 2 after the GFWL removal patch.

Alright... I have my AC save backed up. But after I beat AA, I uninstalled the game. And now I can't find the save.

Since GfWL will be gone next year, is there some way I can download the GfWL version of AA now? That should retrieve my cloud save from AA, which I can then edit and use in the updated GotY, non-GfWL version, right?

No idea about your question, but did you check the Square Enix folder in My Documents?

Awesome, seems I can't use my GfWL save for AC, either. I just get a "corrupt save" message when I go to the loading screen.

EDIT: Haha, spoke too soon! I followed the instructions on this page and it worked perfectly. Whew! For some stupid reason I had my save in the second slot.

Now for the AA save I'm missing :(

EDIT 2: So when I was migrating my entire Steam directory over to a second drive many months ago, I had some trouble getting saves to work, and I forgot I had backed up all of my save files. Including AA. Hell. Yes.

Codemasters is working on updating their games. I won't be keeping an eye on those registry updates, but I'm sure we will keep people clued in.

Hey Grief, you seem pretty clued up on the whole GFWL thing. Has there been anything out of From about removing it from Dark Souls?

For people trying to get a key through WB support: I've been trying to get mine since Tuesday, and hadn't heard anything back since sending in the pics they requested. Called back today, apparently the ticket has been escalated, but Steam key requests are backed up at this point...might get it early next week though no definite time frame could be given. So just FYI, it seems like it's totally possible to get a key this way, it just takes fucking forever.

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
So Get Games and Gamefly now working, Still waiting on GFWL and GMG keys.

Typical, the service I use is last on the list (GMG).

Their forum had a post 2 days ago saying it would be sorted "soon". That clearly isn't happening any time soon as it's the weekend now. Bah, I wanted to do a Steam playthrough this weekend and probably finishing off with buying Origins, now I don't really want to buy the latter until this is settled.

Yep, tried to use my (retail) GFWL key of Arkham City on Steam, but it says it's invalid.
Oh well, hopefully they fix this soon, but i'm glad GFWL is finally dead.

They doing this for all games? my SF4AE was Amazon bought and it wasn't Steam key..

That was quite a stretch there. Different publisher, different developers, entirely different situation.

Capcom is upgrading to Steamworks through the SF4 Ultra edition. All current versions will be left untouched and with GFWL. The Ultra version will use Steamworks and will be entirely separate, upgrade paths will be available.

So are retail box keys ever going to activate on Steam or do we have to contact WB Games and send them all manner of proofs to maybe get a key in like a weeks time?

From Steam forums, it looks like Arkham City retail keys are working, but Arkham Asylum retail keys are not.
This is for GFWL keys that you bought at the store.

Arkham City UK retail regular edition --> Steam GOTY (+ UnusedApp200269)... yay! I wonder if I can copy files from the game disk or GFWL install directory so I can avoid downloading the whole whopping thing.

Thanks, Grief, for keeping track of all this stuff. I've really appreciated this great thread!.

No problem, have fun!

I am about to start AC myself.

Probably a dumb question, but will the methods posted for migrating non-Steamworks saves work for migrating vanilla AC saves to GOTY saves for Steam?

First attempt: Unsuccessful. After initiating the install with Steam it spent a while detecting the files I copied over (just the BmGame directory, to "SteamApps/common/Batman Arkham City GOTY") but, judging by the amount it then wanted to download, none of them were salvageable.

I'm going to try once more, this time patching the retail install first, if I can figure out how. I'm not really expecting a different result, though.

I tried it with the Steam version. Same thing happened, copied my vanilla AC files to the GOTY folder. Steam detected the files but ended up downloading the whole game.

Having downloaded the entire 17.3GB over night I have to say I'm super happy with this free upgrade. I ran the built in benchmark several times, before and after:
GFWL non-GOTY DVD version: 74-75 fps average
Steamworks GOTY: 88-90 fps average

This is at 1080p with 4x adaptive MSAA on 'Very High' settings, no Physx or DX11. I have a Phenom II X6 1055T, 4GB RAM, HD 5870 on 13.11 Beta7 drivers.

Maybe more awesome though are the faster start up times. To get to the file select screen (with intro logos disabled):
On first launch after a system reboot:
GFWL: 75sec
Steam: 17sec

Subsequent launches:
GFWL: 61-66sec
Steam: ~12sec

Dunno what the hell it was doing before, but it was painful.

It's a bit ironic if you remember those (sparse) comments from some people that sounded more or less: "I like GFWL, it's so slim, not a bloatware like Steam at all".

poopninjamvc3mk

I sucked six dicks to get this tag.
not really. Especially considering you have to block your bluetooth dongle just for that.

I use betterds3 http://betterds3.ciebiera.net

works like a charm,

Motionjoy and betterds3 is trash tbh and wireless is iffy at best. You don't even have to block your bluetooth dongle if you want, and can stick to just sticking your usb in if you want. Also betterds3 requires the suspicious chinese malware type installer from motionjoy just to get it working.

I've got an AA standard edition retail copy at home. I'll give it a whirl in a few hours when I get in if no-one has by that point.

So I didn't bother to transfer my saves, cause I just felt like beating both the games again anyway. I've already beaten Asylum now, so I'm moving onto City, but I just noticed something annoying. The first time through I used M/KB, but this time I'm using my 360 controller.

Whenever I go into a menu now the mouse cursor is plastered right dead center in the middle of the screen. Even if I move it out of the way, next time I go in the menu it'll be right there. It's pretty annoying. Does anyone know of a way to get it to quit? Without having to use like some program to just kill the mouse cursor temporarily, that is. But, rather, some kind of actual game fix.

Other people were complaining of that issue earlier in the thread. Haven't heard of any workarounds, but assuredly that was just an oversight.

I've been noticing games recently detect whether you are using a M/KB or controller and switch between on the fly. They show the specific prompts and mouse cursor depending on the case.

Very well implemented in Dust:AET, Volgarr the Viking, and Spelunky, all Indie games by the way.

It's not really a new feature, but I can agree more game would need to do it properly.

For all the shit it got for being a "terrible port", GTA IV did this years ago, for instance.
