Uncharted 4 confirmed?

I'm kind of tired of this argument playing out in every Uncharted thread. I'm up for them making some changes to the formula, but lots of people actually like Uncharted so the persistent whining over Naughty Dog working on their most successful series ever that is still on the upswing just seems bizarre to me. Give it a rest or don't play it (maybe better still).

I think it is perfectly fine to discuss what you want from a new Uncharted, but I'm getting sick of seeing people asking for new IP. You just got one. Why do they have to keep cranking out new IP? What kind of standard are we holding them to?

If Amy Hennig wants to make a new one, she should get to. And if you don't like that you can go into the woods and sit in a hole.

Could not have said better myself. Thats exactly how I feel.

One company, one team, one giant pool of talent that stays fluid while they tackle the tasks of each project.

A less then two year turnaround between Uncharted 3 and TLOU is pretty good, made possible by whatever structure they are using, especially considering their releasing a new game a year and a half after TLOU.

While it may be "one team" its clear a portion of the talent is working on the next idea while the others work on something else, not sure how else they could pull it off.

THEY JUST RELEASED A NEW FRANCHISE
:lol

It'll be three years since Uncharted 3 if they release next fall, thats plenty of time. Considering companies milk franchises like AC and COD its like a eternity since the last game.

That was ND's second team that did TLOU though.

Of course you couldn't argue it has been too soon in todays world of annualized franchises. But never is there a bad time for something new and original, especially from people as talented as ND.

Uncharted hate surprises me. Yes, they're linear games, but they're incredibly well crafted and enjoyable games. But then again, anything that is seemingly popular is hated upon.

I'm very happy to see an Uncharted 4. I think it's a great opportunity for ND to show what they can do on a more powerful machine. Uncharted 2 blew minds; hopefully U4 can deliver the same impact.

Because as a series, Uncharted showed initial promise, got better, then got way worse. Step back from it all, and all you have is three games that are extremely linear (not a bad thing, mind you). Uncharted is full of mostly nonsensical stories where certain plot devices are all too convenient and Drake happens to always know the solution. You also have long drawn out set piece moments with QTEs that do little more than to pad the length of the game (stuff like escaping burning buildings, spiders, etc). And poor third person shooting mechanics. Enemies are nothing but bullet sponges and generally just an annoying obstacle to see the next set piece.

I don't hate the series. I enjoyed Uncharted 1 more than most, and I really like Uncharted 2. The third game is really what broke it for me. It feels all too much the same. Different locations, but always the same premise. And I think that's where a lot of the UC backlash is starting to come from.

Wish they would move onto new IP like they did with TLoU, I thought the Uncharted series were incredibly overrated poor games personally.

Didn't find a single character in Uncharted interesting, or the story and the gameplay was run of the mill barring the odd megatacular set piece of silliness. Although it is a series loved by many so fair enough, but couldn't that have been handed off to another studio to 'replicate'.
You don't like the games. That's fine. But calling them poor games? That's an extreme exaggeration.

Handing off the series to another developer is a bad idea. Franchise still has room to grow and only Naughty Dog can do the series justice.

Also UC is a 3rd person shooter not a platformer when are people going to understand that?

Will take a lot for me to ever be tired of the Uncharted series. There are just so many great things for Nathan Drake to do and locations for him to venture.

U4 can be simply be a great graphics upgrade and that'd be mostly fine. But if U5 is still the same formula with a different locale, I don't think that'd fly at all.

Great post Kev. The vocal minority on here concerning the Uncharted series is getting as loud and annoying as the one for MGS4.

Uncharted 3 came out in 2011. 3 years is too soon for you?

If it is the same mechanic from the last 3 games then yes.
If they could open up the maps a lot more, take away the yellow ledges that would be a start. It doesn't have to become MGS5 in its openness but that is a good place to take a look.

The hell, why must we all be in agreement?

But they just made a new IP this year. I've said it before and i'll say it again, i've never seen a studio that's expected to churn out new IP's as much as ND is. How many single studios can say that they created two successful IP's this gen?

people want ND to make new IP with new genre/setting/theme because ND make a name for themselves for churning out some incredible visual with compelling characters, so people want to see their preferred genre/setting made by ND.

there are people asking ND to make RPG, even though ND never made one before so we didn't really know if they have what it takes to make an RPG.

The Last chapter of Uncharted 4, Drake will enter a Pyramid, find some treasure, however once he pulled the treasure out he didn't know it was actually a lever. The Pyramid turns out to be a spaceship, and in the last chapter you fly into space battling aliens.

How about a really dark ending: Last chapter in UC4, Drake find a sarcophagus and inside finds an odd looking fungus. *Credits*

Why can't people have a contrary opinion to what a company wants? Its ok if people don't like where the Devil may Cry series is taken, but naughty dog is off the hook? :)

I just think its a case of its been done, its a new generation, time to move on. Three games (plus vita) isn't enough for a series? Just becomes Halo at that point in milking it for me and maybe others. But yeah, if people want it, and Naughty Dog want to do it then fair enough but seems like a missed opportunity to some.

If its a great game, its a great game, we will see I suppose.

When a game is roughly 30% platforming then I expect some actual platforming and not hold up to win. The "not a platformer" excuse doesn't mean anything when there's that much platforming in the games. If devs are going to keep merging genres together then they need to stop half-assing major elements from those genres.

Thank you. Uncharted is my favorite action franchise and i was getting scared with all that sci fi talk.

Keep that BS away from ND, please.

Can't wait for Uncharted 4.

I'm perfectly fine with this.

Uncharted continuing is fine, but perhaps just one game per generation?

Exactly.

Personally, I will get another Uncharted on the PS4, but it just seems it's been there done that with the series. Maybe if they can impress me. Uncharted 3 sure as heck did not.

This is going to completely overshadow The Order if it gets announced any time soon. Don't do that. I like RaD.

OP has a weird definition for the word "confirmed". A no-name blog is practically the opposite of confirmation.

But Uncharted 4 is undoubtedly on the way. Prepare yourselves.

Again what is this obsession with big open maps or worlds?

Why? One is releasing Q3, the other Q4 (as per Mort and other insiders), as of now. Both will get spotlight treatment from Sony as their Fall/Holiday games.

I was thinking about this earlier as well, especially if ND announces something at VGA's.
I think The Order while not in the same category as Uncharted is not doing itself any favors by being a SP only campaign.

Uncharted 4 releasing Fall 2014 taking full advantage of next-gen tech would sell a shit ton of ps4s, Sony would be stupid not to do it.

They also need a strong franchise to counter Halo 5 which should also be releasing Holiday 2014.

Uncharted 4 is gonna sell lots of systems next holiday season. Its one of Sony's biggest franchises, they would be crazy not to do one more, and Drake still has lots to explore. I do agree that ND shouldn't make a new trilogy... just one more to get UC fans to buy a PS4. Hope they use the character models of UC2, Elena UC3 looked weird, and make changes to the melee combat, never liked it.

btw, why are people so convinced whatever game ND is doing will be out for Fall 2014? I still think it'd be for 2015. either The Order will take the Fall 2014 spot, or SSM Stig game, it's been ages since Stig finished with GoW3

I think the main reason people are disapointed is that U3 felt like such a rehash of U2. It was still a great game but it followed U2 very closely with different locales. Also the ending was pretty disappointing and sudden. Hopefully they change things up a lot if they're doing U4, because I still love the series.

I am okay with this. ND needs a familiar franchise for their first PS4 game and Uncharted is perfect. They can work on a new IP anytime after that.

It doesn't feel half assed to me, it works well with the shooting.

Wow. What an exclusive.

Breaking news.

And no other journalism site has this yet but NeoGaf...

Buy my sources....

tell me...

That Square will be making another Final Fantasy after Lightning Returns.

And other insiders have also informed me another Tomb Raider is coming.

To improve Uncharted, they should make it an actual exploration game with some shooting on the side, instead of a set piece shootbang game. If they want to keep the levels linear then at least go wide linear like Killzone: SF is doing.

If they show it this year it will be out next year I think.

Everyone complaining will buy the next Uncharted, especially if its close to U2's level of quality.

Thank you, this "screw the haters" talk is just ridiculous.
Its as if people saying they want a little more from the next are also saying they will boycott ND if they don't get it.

I never said that we all have to be in agreement with each other, you're free to think whatever the hell you want I'm not stopping you. However, how so many of the Naughty Dog threads concerning the Uncharted series end up evolving into now is getting tiring at this point and I was agreeing with Kev there on that particular topic.

Just fix the gunplay/combat, and use some of the lessons learned from TLOU in regard to restraint on enemy waves. I'll be right there as long as it isn't a chore to play like Uncharted 3. Wider levels wouldn't hurt as well. I don't need open world, but yeah.

If they truly are revealing at the 11/14 Spike event, I'm actually more excited for that than I am for the release of the console itself! And I've already got mine preordered...
