Nintendo Land removed from the eShop

hope they still produce retail versions of the game.... planning to buy a WiiU for early 2014
before Smash and NintendoLand is one of those games I would love to have for my library

So far any de-listed games on every Nintendo platform remain in the owner's download history / purchase list. They can be redownloaded. Purchased games are also not lost if a console is sent to Nintendo for repair (this includes the event of Nintendo replacing, rather than repairing, the unit.)

We need confirmation by a digital owner of Nintendo Land about it still showing up in their downloads list. This is a bizarre situation, as the only communication features in Nintendo Land go through Miiverse which is moderated. Hard to imagine this is a Swapnote scenario.

Edit: has there ever been 100% confirmation that Yoshi's Cookie is gone from redownloading on the Wii shop channel?

An easy way to test is find someone who has it digitally and has an external drive they can wack it on and then unplug.

Really? Every other game that got removed you can redownload as far as I know.

You are correct, but until we have a confirmation from someone who owns Nintendo Land digitally that it is indeed possible to re-download it, we should not assume this to be the case. After the Yoshi's Cookie fiasco, we have a right to be paranoid about things like this.

Apparently yes, though it was explicitly stated in Nintendo's announcement:

Nintendo said:
The Virtual Console title Yoshi's Cookie (500 Wii Points) will be discontinued at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. If you'd like to purchase this title or have already purchased and would like to redownload, please do so before this time. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The game has been delisted. When you search for it, it does not appear.

It also does not appear when you go to Titles You've Downloaded.

In Account Activity, Yoshi's Cookie and the transaction you've made involving it will still appear in your history. Clicking on the name of the game, however, will send you to a page called Details, saying only the following:

“The software you have selected cannot be purchased or redownloaded at this time. Due to certain circumstances, this software is no longer available.”

Yeah, this doesn't look like it's ever coming back.

Isn't Mario 3D Land coming to Wii U in a couple of weeks?

Super Mario 3D Land is a 3DS game. If you look at the picture, even though it's not in English, you can clearly see it mentions 3DS.
You're confusing with Super Mario 3D World, the Wii U game.

this best be a mistake. i sold my physical copy of Nland so i could purchase the digital version after that press release.

i'm usually on nintendo's side on most of the digital arguments but this is INFURIATING

I think that one flew right over you.

Assuming it was a 3D World joke. :p I chuckled.

Just realized they could have pulled it in order to make a quick and dirty bundle with a wiimote+ for Christmas - same as Wii Party U isn't on the eshop in the US.

Which is still stupid, mind you.

I really hope this is some kind of mistake or something. Nintendo Land is a game I've always wanted digitally but never got around to getting it.

That would also mean it's gone if you have to get a new Wii U or have your console repaired for some reason. Jeez, that's bad.

Between this and next gen games becoming astronomical in size, I'm becoming steadily more adverse to buying digital on anything other than Steam.

Okay.

This is not true.
This is not true.
This is not true.

There's only one incident of that being the case and that was with Sudoku on the DsiShop. And I'm pretty sure NOA dished out DSi Shop refunds for that too.

I would've said the same thing, but the Wii Sports Club thing was the same way.

Wii Sports is being split up the way it is though is to take advantage of the holidays (the others simply wouldn't be finished in time). Assuming they'd do the reverse isn't the conclusion I'd come to.

The day pass thing, by the way, is basically a game rental. You can still buy and own the game without dealing with that.

Naah, sounds very un-Nintendo like

i think it's very nintendo like. they want people to play their shit. they got the technology to force the game onto consoles and people will obviously give it a try because they'll get 24 hours free, why not? it's the best way to turn some value out of that failure. there might be hope for the game yet if they did that. packing it in obviously doesn't work. consumers don't see the value in it.

May I have a cookie?
I have a very bad feeling this is going to be the start of Nintendo decreasing their efforts to support their own console, just like in the GameCube days.. god those were depressing times..

Hopefully I'm just being paranoid..

I'm assuming it could go F2P or split up like Wii Sports Club, it would be weird if it just went down for no reason. With that said, I should probably get around to picking up a physical copy. I sold mine the day after launch to pick up other games.

There's always been a 3DS section in the Wii U eShop, it only displays information about the game. I guess it's just promotional. No cross-buy stuff, don't get excited ;p

Seems like the 3DS entries would just get in the way if I'm only trying to search for Wii U games. Hopefully you can filter them out.

Wii Sports is/was more suited for the license split up thing.

Nintendoland, not so much. It's a gamepad demo showcase and people would not buy it in chunks when they know there is a full retail version out there.

Unless they revamp it but then the disc version would need a free update or dlc... No idea HOW they would do this.. Hmmm

Club Nintendo Land? ;p

It could be the opposite. Since they officially lowered the MSRP of Nintendo Land, they may be getting ready to do the same for some other launch titles like Ninja Gaiden & Sing Party and then update everything on the 'shop together. The only reason NL was pulled was due to the price reduction, according to the timing of it. Shrugs. Who knows.

EDIT: Structuring the digital version to have a day pass or individual purchases is sorta making more sense to me too. They will still want as many people to try the software as possible. As long as "owning" everything in a purchase bundle isn't above $29.99 I suppose I wouldn't be opposed to it.

well they could do it like $9.99 for all of the single-player games, $9.99 for the 5-player mario/luigi/animal crossing games, and $9.99 for the 1-5 player zelda/pikmin/metroid games, with a 24 hour pass for $2. that would line it up with both club pricing and retail.

just block access to rooms you don't have licensing to

Yes you can, Wii U eShop filtering options are:

- Software / Videos / Software and videos

- All Software / 3DS cartridge / 3DS download / 3DS cartridge and download / Wii U disc / Wii U download / Wii U disc and download / NES / SNES

- Genre
- Publisher
- Price
