I agree with this. It is very tricky, indeed. What's weird is that he can't even access system settings.
Why wouldn't Activision also do this on the PS4 version?
Well, it does beg the question why it needs online for Xbox One and not PS4.
So 3rd party drm on both consoles is possible
yet ms will probably get blamed for. seems legit
imagn.
It's entirely possible Sony pressures or mandates publishers to allow offline play if it has an offline mode like SP campaign. Why Activision requires it on the xbone idk, MS better get ahead of this because it is potentially terrible news.
Wasn't the option for developers to make their games online only always an option for both Xbox One and PS4, though?
The real question is if he tried to access the system settings at all before he realised he couldn't. The patch he got is not final (likely quite barebones strictly for testing purposes) and the settings menu may be disabled from the start.
I'm kinda curious to see how the final 1.5 gig update will differ from the ui walkthrough he did up a few days ago feature wise.
Maybe they were hoping no one would notice till after launch.Same. I'll stick with scenario one (the patch he downloaded just wasn't ready) for now, to give Microsoft and Activision the benefit of the doubt. Surely both are VERY aware of what pulling this would do to their credibility on a LAUNCH game.
nowhere is it stated or implied that online access is required for the game on xbox one.
Well, it does beg the question why it needs online for Xbox One and not PS4.

Yes, especially since we have MMOs coming to both consoles.Wasn't the option for developers to make their games online only always an option for both Xbox One and PS4, though?
I know, but usually I'm able to decrypt, not this time.Boy, are you going to be confused over the next few pages. Google 'neogaf cboat'
We dont know if it needs online for X1.
why would you? that type of possibility exists for ALL ONLINE CAPABLE PLATFORMS
games are out there that require online to function
WAIT GUYS. I don't get it. Both Sony and MS said they wouldn't interfere with a publisher requiring an online connection. I guess the only difference between them is that Xbone actually has a built in mechanism for this, where the PS4 does not. If publishers wanted to achieve the same thing on PS4 they'd have to put it in themselves, which probably involves a fair bit of work.
He's been wrong before. Remember, they don't know shit about 3rd party games.
This is however another excuse to post Lovely Salsa's hilarious ASS STORM IS COMING gif:
Ah, figured you were trying to hint at some possible inside info.Nothing more to add right now.
My personal take is what it is. MSFT is just not as prepared for this as they should be. People will learn.
Hopefully when I get one this isn't an issue but who knows.
Nothing that I would share with you.
I imagn what he'll say
Wasn't the option for developers to make their games online only always an option for both Xbox One and PS4, though?
But there is/was...there is no mechanisms.
What the fuck.imagn.
I imagn what he'll say
What is there to look into? Not trying to sound like a dick even though I know I am but... shouldn't he just know the answer?
It was suggested in one of the recent CBOAT threads that the DRM removal might not make the launch firmware update. Using this one guy's experience isn't the best way to gauge whether this is the case or not, as we don't know how the console banning has effected things.
Imagine if online authentication was deactivated at the OS level, but was still possible from game to game.
But there is/was...
About what cboat responded to. Didn't we already know if a dev wants to they can require online? Isnt that the case for both systems?
See my post above.
PS4 version of Ghosts has offline play.About what cboat responded to. Didn't we already know if a dev wants to they can require online? Isnt that the case for both systems?
I don't get it. Why would publishers have DRM on one major platform and not the others?
What the hell.
"Please hold, while I come up with the nice-sounding official PR response to this catastrophic situation"
