COD Ghosts Xbox One offline (2 weeks before launch) not possible without Live?

This is however another excuse to post Lovely Salsa's hilarious ASS STORM IS COMING gif:

I agree with this. It is very tricky, indeed. What's weird is that he can't even access system settings.

The real question is if he tried to access the system settings at all before he realised he couldn't. The patch he got is not final (likely quite barebones strictly for testing purposes) and the settings menu may be disabled from the start.

I'm kinda curious to see how the final 1.5 gig update will differ from the ui walkthrough he did up a few days ago feature wise.

So 3rd party drm on both consoles is possible

yet ms will probably get blamed for. seems legit

PS4 version of Ghosts is Offline Play enabled. If (emphasis on if since we don't know yet) the Xbox One version does not allow for that, they should definitely be blamed.

It's entirely possible Sony pressures or mandates publishers to allow offline play if it has an offline mode like SP campaign. Why Activision requires it on the xbone idk, MS better get ahead of this because it is potentially terrible news.

Caveat here is that COD ghosts is on 360 and WII U as well....

Wasn't the option for developers to make their games online only always an option for both Xbox One and PS4, though?

Yes. What's weird is that PS4 has "Offline play enabled". It makes no sense for them to do this on one platform alone, at least from where I stand, which is far far away from their boardroom.

Valid argument

Same. I'll stick with scenario one (the patch he downloaded just wasn't ready) for now, to give Microsoft and Activision the benefit of the doubt. Surely both are VERY aware of what pulling this would do to their credibility on a LAUNCH game.
Maybe they were hoping no one would notice till after launch.

Shit, some dude is leaking stuff! Ban his ass then buy him off!

nowhere is it stated or implied that online access is required for the game on xbox one.

I'm speaking in hypotheticals. The topic of this thread suggests that is the case. So if it ends up being that, then - it begs the question why offline is available on PS4 and not Xbox One.

Keep in mind, I made my post after CBOAT made his.

WAIT GUYS. I don't get it. Both Sony and MS said they wouldn't interfere with a publisher requiring an online connection. I guess the only difference between them is that Xbone actually has a built in mechanism for this, where the PS4 does not. If publishers wanted to achieve the same thing on PS4 they'd have to put it in themselves, which probably involves a fair bit of work.

why would you? that type of possibility exists for ALL ONLINE CAPABLE PLATFORMS

games are out there that require online to function

I feel like your response wasn't intended for me or I'm missing something. I'm just staying up to enjoy the drama. I'm getting an Xbox One and a PS4 and am pumped for both of them, I have no horse in this race.

So yeah Justin, I really, really think it would be in MS' best interests to clarify this shit ASAP, assuming there's a chance this isn't turning into what's likely on everyone's mind here, before they get themselves completely swept up into DRMgate II: Electric Boogaloo just under two weeks from launch.

Yeah but it's still odd that this is happening with the Xbone version of Ghosts but the box for the PS4 version says it'll work offline.

So might be Activision's fault making one version online only and the other not but might also be an Xbone problem. We don't know at the moment and if Activision did make the Xbone online only but not the PS4 it'd be interesting to know why.

It was suggested in one of the recent CBOAT threads that the DRM removal might not make the launch firmware update. Using this one guy's experience isn't the best way to gauge whether this is the case or not, as we don't know how the console banning has effected things.

He was saying imagn=imagine to this post

Imagine if online authentication was deactivated at the OS level, but was still possible from game to game.
