This is however another excuse to post Lovely Salsa's hilarious ASS STORM IS COMING gif:
He was saying imagn=imagine to this post
What is there to look into? Not trying to sound like a dick even though I know I am but... shouldn't he just know the answer?
Amazing. Is this gif from a movie?
Is this a catastrophic situation though?
imagn.
What is this catastophic situation?"Please hold, while I come up with the nice-sounding official PR response to this catastrophic situation"
Amazing. Is this gif from a movie?
PS4 version of Ghosts has offline play.
Xbone version apparently doesn't.
there is no mechanisms.
About what cboat responded to. Didn't we already know if a dev wants to they can require online? Isnt that the case for both systems?
I will continue to assume he is looking into it because he wants to be extra sure of the answer because of recent mistakes (like the free music streaming mistake thing he made).
I just have to believe this can't be true. It's just too insane at this point.
That's what I'm trying to get at. It no longer is OS enforced by Xbox, but maybe the code required to do this on a game by game basis is still present. It's a publisher decision. Maybe they are providing publishers with a way to do this.there was for the OS, yes.
Reposted for the new page, my opinion on why it's not exactly that simple:
And for those saying this is not a revelation -- it is (if, with a large if, Activision actually did this) in the following sense:
- It's the first example of a huge game doing it
- It's right at launch
- It would follow precisely the 24 hour policy, meaning that the DRM infrastructure was kept in the platform to facilitate implementation of software-specific DRM.
imagn.
Now this is weird, so he played offline before but now he can't?
I'm guessing the functionality's still there, but isn't related to this incident.Yeah, I mean I know Microsoft has been one cock up after another, but this just seems... for a game this major? The perception issue alone would be catastrophic.
I trust crazy buttocks, but him just posting "imagine".... I dunno I'm going to say it's too vague to draw any conclusions from because I cannot believe Microsoft or any company would be that dumb.

But he was playing offline before
Haha!
The Walking Dead is about to start
The topic of this thread is wrong. The guy posted on Twitter he didnt know if he could play offline or not. He doesnt know.
What is this catastophic situation?
It's 2 weeks before launch. Is the issue that the day one patch isn't ready yet?
Does Penello actually know anything about the product he's reponsible for?
Better to verify than to misspeak.

Jurassic Park combined with something from some other movie I have no clue about.
Yes.
They better get this sorted within a year.
But he was playing offline before
The part with the kids is from Jurassic Park when they are in the car near the T-Rex pen.

24 hour check in allegedly kicked in.But he was playing offline before
Sometimes I hate the way cboat posts. S/he knows their posts carry a lot of weight but still posts one word posts that just lead to more speculation whether right or wrong. It helps no one, because it doesn't answer anything. I want to know if a console I'm spending $500 on will lock me out of games if I don't have an online connection. His/her post has now alluded to this possibility, but does not serve as confirmation leaving us in limbo.
They don't need to "provide publishers with a way to do it." A publisher can require an online check with about 5 lines of code, if they're so inclined. That's what I'm trying to get at. It no longer is OS enforced by Xbox, but maybe the code required to do this on a game by game basis is still present. It's a publisher decision. Maybe they are providing publishers with a way to do this.

I think the difference is between 'can choose to do so' and 'choosing to do so'. The former is known. The latter is insane at this point. What are you finding insane? That some publishers can choose to stay online only?
what pegged him wasn't the game, it was the system.
the system which doesn't have the final update.
Why wouldn't Activision also do this on the PS4 version? Is it Microsoft's call?
Better to verify than to misspeak.
That fucking long?
I think you know more than you're willing to say so I'll take you be very cautious with this whole situation as a sign that when the Xb1 launches shit will hit the fan.
Let me clarify something real quick. It's IMO always been common knowledge that either MS or Sony would allow Publishers to make the decision to have their games need an internet connection or not. That it was up to the publishers. I've always thought this was known. So this information isn't that shocking. But what does make it questionable is that we know the PS4 does NOT require online to play.
So that is where you ask, why is it for one system and not the other. And again, that's IF this ends up being true. I trust CBOAT, and my interpretation of his post (and this thread), is that Xbox One's version does require online to play.
EDIT: But it looks like Major Nelson has people looking into this. So it was perhaps just a weird ban/restriction on MS part.
no
he's looking into it.
